  1. Don't you mean the World's Worst DQ.....LOL It was billed as the largest, but after time, poor management did it in. It was remodeled into what we called a McShell, a combo McDonalds and Shell gas station.
  2. You are correct. Travel was mentioned as the reason. But your are right, all three have had much more success in the NCC after most of the HCC schools improved.
  3. It is now. When the conference was formed over 20 years ago, Westfield and Zionsville were the smaller schools, and took their lumps. It took quite a while, but Westfield has been full steam ahead in the development of the city since becoming a city in 2008, whereas Zionsville has preferred to keep the more smaller village feel. School enrollment has increased tremendously. They have invested in and will continue to invest in better facilities. Families are moving here as fast as the developers can build homes. The coaches never were fans of the old 10 school conference, since that did not allow for non conference games. Once the three Lafayette schools left, the seven remaining, now eight with the addition of Franklin Central, has allowed them to schedule some strong non conference opponents. That has also helped.
  4. Other than I expect a larger margin of victory by Brownsburg, I'd say you are pretty much dead on.
  5. 6 HCC teams out of 8 in this poll. Franklin Central with the 8th toughest schedule in the state per Sagarin, the lowest of those 6 teams. Westfield at #2 is the highest. Not too shabby, considering they tend to beat up on each other. Noblesville could make some noise. That offense that they run is very difficult to defend if you're not used to going against it. That showed last Friday against Brownsburg. Guaranteed they will give either Westfield or Carmel a game if they get by Zionsville.
  6. So don't put them in the same sectional. Why do sectionals have to be predetermined prior to the regular season anyway? Seed the sectionals, then go from there.
  7. 6A Sectional 3 has both Fishers and HSE going up north. Fishers goes to Homestead and HSE goes to FW Northrup. Sectional 5 in 6A has the battle of powerhouses Brownsburg at Ben Davis. The winner gets to beat up on the winner of Avon at Pike. 6A Sectional 6 has Cathedral essentially drawing a bye as they host N. Central. LC goes to LN in the battle of Lawrence Township. 6A Sectional 7 has Perry Merdian going to Warren Central, while Southport travels to wherever Tech is playing this season. 6A Sectional 8 has Franklin Central going to Center Grove, while Jeffersonville goes to Columbus N.
  8. Just like last year, 6A Sectional 4 has Westfield making that "long" four mile trip straight south on 31 to play at Carmel. Noblesville travels to Zionsville. If Westfield is in a sectional that also contains Carmel, odds are very good that they draw Carmel.
  9. Westfield28 Fishers 14 Westfield dominates most of the first half, until Fishers puts together a late drive and makes it 13-7 at halftime. Fishers' stud running back Khobie Martin was most of the Tigers offense the entire game, until he went down with what looked like a shoulder injury late in the third quarter. Until Martin's injury, the third quarter belonged to Fishers. They started several drives in Westfield territory, as the Rocks offense came out sluggish and punting was difficult going south. However, their defense kept Fishers out of the end zone until 5 minutes left in the game, with Westfield up 21-7. Westfield would recover the onside kick and score again with just over 2 minutes in the game to make the final score 28-14. Next week at Franklin Central.
  10. Indy Howe HS used to only have stands on one side of the field. The other side backed up to a wooded area.
  11. Final - Westfield 38, Avon 14. Rocks had the ball at the Avon 1 and rightly took a knee instead of scoring. Tied at 7-7 in the first, but Westfield took control thereafter. Next week home to Fishers.
  12. No excuse for continuing to throw the ball once the game got out of hand in the first half. However, watching that highlight video at the end of this thread, there were a lot of missed BC tackles. One was on a simple screen pass that the receiver ran about 50 yards as he could not be tackled.
  13. Sounds about right. I would put that Westfield/Avon game a bit closer. Westfield can score with anyone (other than Brownsburg), but their defense has left a lot to be desired. I'd say more like Westfield winning 31-26
  14. Don't the kids living in Whitestown go to WeBo? Whitestown is growing like crazy. Or perhaps they go to Zionsville or Lebanon schools?
  15. Surprise this hasn't already been posted. The "Game Of The Week" was a snoozefest. Brownsburg scored all five first half possessions to lead at Westfield 30-0 at the half. Both teams scored once in the final half with the running clock after Dogs went up 37-0. Final 37-7. I've had doubts about Westfield, even though they were able to pull out four close games in a row. I thought after that great game at HSE last week that they might be for real, but they were no match for Brownsburg. Dogs obviously the class of the HCC.
  16. Ha! When I was at Cathedral, late 60's, we had a game at the old 16th St. CYO field where the lights on the northern half of the field went out. Play the next day? Nah! They just played the remainder of the game at the south end of the field that had lights. If I remember, and that was LONG AGO, the lights went out in the first half.
  17. Westfield survives their third straight one score game with a home 28-21 win over Noblesville in the annual Midland Trophy Game. Turnovers, dropped passes, but the Rocks survive again to go 4-0. They will need to be much better next week when they travel to HSE.
  18. Westfield endures their second nail biter in a row, 28-27 at Zionsville. Turnovers big in this game. Z'ville turned it over on the first play of the game, Westfield recovered, and quick TD run by Garnett, who scored all four of the Rocks TDs. Interception by Z'ville gave them great field position. Westfield D holds them to a FG, 7-3. Westfield throws another int, returned to the Westfield 9. The Eagles get the TD, 10-7 Z'ville. A Westfield TD followed by another Z'ville TD makes it 17-14. Z'ville would miss a big FG on the last play of the first half. Westfield comes out and turns it over again, their third. Westfield D holds again, but Z'ville kicks another FG. 20-14. Z'Ville. Z'ville holds, offense scores another TD. They call a TO to discuss going for two. As it turned out, they probably made the wrong call. They kick instead and makes it 27-14. Garnett scores his 3rd TD, makes it Z'ville in the 27-21 in the 3rd. Z'ville turns it over again, Westfield scores on a Gilbert pass to Garnett, 28-27 Rocks early in the 4th. Westfield would have a chance to put it away, advancing to the Z'ville 9, but turn it over on downs. Eagles would advance to the Rocks 25 inside of a minute to play, but fumble it backwards. They recovered but lost yards, making it a long FG with 33 seconds to play. They miss, and Westfield runs out the clock. Rocks 3-0, back home next week against Noblesville.
  19. In what has to be the wildest game of the night, Westfield wins at Lawrence Central 59-58 in 2 OTs. Too many highlights. Neither team could stop the other for most of the game. After Westfield took a 44-43 lead with just over 2 minutes to play, LC with a quick score and two point conversion to take a 51-44 lead Westfield looked to be looking at the loss, down to a 4th and 10 with little time left. However, they get the first down, down to the LC 3, then score on the last play of regulation. The PAT ties the game 51-51. I was surprised Coach Gilbert didn't go for two at that point, since both teams had to be gassed. There were numerous injury timeouts for cramps by both teams throughout the game. LC scored on their first play in OT. The PAT made it 58-51 LC Westfield had a 4th and goal, got it in, this time went for the two point conversion. Got that, and 59-58 victory. Phew!
