  1. Since when is a defender contacting the receiver and knocking him off his route not defense pass interference?
  2. Replay clearly showed that the defender's contact caused the receiver to go out of bounds. Remember, there was also that not too smart interference with a fair catch penalty. Take that away, and Webo would not have been in FG range.
  3. Westfield gets their one LOS practice later today, although they've already have indoor practices two miles away this week at the Event Center at Grand Park. That's a nice amenity to have this time of the year.
  4. Thanks! I had already saved it as a pdf file, but never saw the "choose files" link in the reply section. Duh! Here it is: State-Finals-Ticket-Purchase-Registration.pdf
  5. I thought that the weekly announcement on which counties were what color was made on Wednesday afternoon? Westfield sold to parents only starting today (Tuesday) from 5-7 pm, then 7-9 pm to anyone in the community. Then tomorrow, Wednesday, sales for the community from 8-10 am. If the below, which is copied from the state Covid website, is true, then you'd have a lot of people who had already purchased tickets and could not be allowed inside, depending on the downsized number of tickets allowed per school. Would refunds have to be given, and how do they decide which ticket holders are not allowed to attend? Hopefully Marion Co stays orange, and the above is a mute point. "The weekly county status scores and maps are updated once a week on Wednesdays at 12 p.m. The weekly update reflects data from the previous Monday through Sunday."
  6. Westfield has a map of the west side of LOS, which will be their side of the stadium. I can't figure out how to copy it here. However, it shows seats in the entire first two levels, plus some in the third level. Seats go half way into each end zone, with one end zone having seats in both the lower and second levels.
  7. From Indy Star's Kyle NeddenRiep's Twitter account. So 7,000 fans max. I don't thing that is too bad, all things considered: From state football finals meeting today on attendance (as it stands now): each of 12 schools will receive 3,500 tickets. Tickets that go unsold by schools will go on sale an hour before kickoff for each game of state finals on Fri., Sat. Stadium will be cleared after each game. Should add, this is pending if Marion County stays in orange zone. If red, attendance would be scaled back.
  8. I haven't heard this, but I seriously doubt that they will sell the same number per school as in the past. Westfield in 2016 for the 5A title game was packed on the home team side, end zone to end zone. Unless they open up the upper seats, I don't see how they can sell even close to that many tickets and allow for all of the distancing that is required.
  9. Location, location, location :) It hasn't happened in football yet, but Guerin Catholic is another example. It is technically located in the Noblesville district. However, just across the street to the west is Westfield. And a half a mile to the south is Carmel.
  10. Two words on the difference between now and the Cathedral game for Westfield - Maximus Webster. He was the second string QB in that game, and the following game against Harrison. I'm not saying Westfield would have won that game, but I'm certain it would have been much closer. Also, Westfield's defense is definitely improved over that game.
  11. Running yes, but his passing was off last night. 152 rushing yards, but only 116 passing. Maybe his best run was Westfield's only turnover of the game. He was all but sacked, the ball came out, he was able to shake off the defender, scoop up the ball, and run about 30 yards to the Merrillville three yard line before another defender poked the ball out from behind. With Micha Hauser, their leading rusher this season playing sparingly last night, and only on offense (he's also a linebacker), Webster has picked up more of the load these past two weeks. Hauser did not play at all against Homestead. He injured an ankle in the sectional title game against Fishers. Hauser did run one time, making the most of it for a nine yard TD.
  12. Covenant Christian has not had a football program for very long. I think this is only their 6th year in the tournament.
  13. Amazing! I watched Westfield put a 49-16 whipping on Zionsville back in September. It was 42-0 at halftime. Zionsville looked awful that night. Two HCC schools in the championship games!
  14. Thanks! Actually that was probably the "worst" game Westfield has played in some time. Way to many penalties and the passing game was not up to par. I'm sure Merrillville had something to do with that. I was impressed by their running back, although I thought Westfield held him down for the most part. They have played against several D1 running backs this year, so they were prepared. Who knows about next Friday night. On paper, it won't be close, but we'll see.
  15. I believe you are correct. I think this was the case when they went to the every school is in the tournament format. I also remember when other class sports started, they went to using total enrollment, because they did not want, say, a school's boys basketball team playing in 3A while the girls team was in 2A because there were more boys in the school than girls. Maybe this is when they switched football to total enrollment? I can't remember. Finally, do they still give schools the option of playing up a class? If so, with Cathedral locked into 5A for two more years, I would think that they would want to play in 6A rather than beat up on 5A in the tournament, since they already play a mostly 6A regular season schedule. This could perhaps apply to other schools.
  16. I've also heard this from some parents of Westfield players.
  17. Actually Westfield had 5 possessions in the first half. They scored TDs on four of them, and had a poor snap on a short field goal attempt causing a miss on the other possession. They then scored on their first 2 possessions of the second half, then called off the dogs the remainder of the game.
  18. Westfield didn't have Maximus Webster at QB starting in that game. Since he became the starter, I think in game 3, their offense has been next to unstoppable. He not only throws the ball well, but at 6'2", 220, he's a big kid who's more like a second running back.
  19. That someone could be Westfield. This year, playing the same schedule as the varsity, and yes, that includes Cathedral, Westfield's JV and freshmen teams both went undefeated. Their eight grade team (not sure of their schedule) also went undefeated.
  20. True. I would add that Cathedral is probably the best team in any class. If they pick up that 4th and one very late in the Center Grove game, they win. It's not like Westfield just escaped those games against the lower HCC teams. The first Noblesville game, at Noblesville, was reasonably close because that team almost never passes. I think there were maybe 5-6 passes thrown by them in both games combined. They also take the play clock down to almost zero on every offensive possession, therefore limiting the other team's number of possessions. Also the HCC has three new coaches this season. Imagine trying to put together a program with Zoom meetings and having the kids be disciplined enough to do what needs to be done during the summer. In fact, Coach Gilbert mentioned this during a preseason interview, that he thought his team did a great job of doing just that, and the teams that did would be the most successful during this strange season.
  21. I've wondered that myself. Since not much travel would be involved as was the case with Merrillville traveling to Indy, I would say Westfield should win. i'm assuming that Chatard has a much smaller roster, and Westfield would eventually wear them down. But again, Merrillville never was able to do that.
  22. Of note, that was Westfield's second game of the season. Maximus Webster was still the second string QB. Like the first game against Cathedral, he did see some playing time off of the bench. This kid has been exceptional since earning the starting job. Also of note, in the next game, against Zionsville, Westfield won 49-16, up 42-0 at the half, with a running clock the entire second half.
  23. There would have been if Coach Gilbert hadn't played reserves the entire 4th quarter. I expected this to be a Westfield win, playing at home, maybe by two scores. Westfield even did this without their best all around player, running back, linebacker, and kick returner Micha Hauser, out with an ankle injury suffered in the sectional final against Fishers. He did warm up pregame, but fortunately was not needed. They never punted, scoring on every possession but two. A holding call at the Homestead 3 yard line kept them out of the endzone in the second quarter. After an incomplete pass, the field goal try was no good, due to a poor hold. The only other non scoring possession was by the reserves in the 4th quarter. QB Maximus Webster had another stellar game, throwing 4 touchdown passes and running for two more. Westfield put up 450 yards of total offense. Next week, they get to make the long trip to Merrillville
  24. The 1982 AFC Championship game in Cincy between the Bengals and San Diego Chargers was played with a temp of -9, with a wind chill of -59.
