  1. Right! The Westfield kicker made two 50+ FGs against Columbus East in the 5A championship game. I believe the longer one was 54 yards, which at that time, maybe still is, was the longest FG in any state championship game.
  2. This game did live up to it's billing. Brownsburg took advantage of the wind after the Westfield punt on their first possession landed in Westfield territory at the 45. Dogs drive down and go up 7-0. Westfield came right back with a wide open TD pass on a half back option pass. 7-7. Westfielld scored again, this time with the wind on a Hauser TD run to go up 14-7. After Westfield's defense missed two big QB sacks which ended up resulting in good gains for the Dogs, Brownsburg scored with 17 seconds left in the half. 14-14 at halftime. Westfield scored first out of the halftime, but the Dogs came right back to tie it at 21. Then with about 6 minutes to go, Westfield was stopped on a 3rd and 3 at the Brownsburg 17. The 34 yard FG was good for a 24-21 Westfield lead. Brownsburg drove down to around the Westfield 20, but a run for a loss and a false start penalty killed the drive, setting up a possible game tying 41 yard FG. It was long enough but wide right. Westfield picked up two first downs while Brownsburg used all 3 timeouts, then took two knees to end the game.
  3. Westfield 42 Noblesville 15 Running clock for most of the second half. Westfield led 28-7 at the half, and quickly pushed it to 42-7 midway through the 3rd quarter. Noblesville controlled the time of possession with their "use almost all of the clock then run for 3-4 yards" offense. Westfield on the other hand scored almost at will whenever they had the ball, except for the last possession of the game when they were just running out most of the clock. They never had to punt. Rocks now 3-1, Noblesville 2-2 Rocks at HSE next Friday night.
  4. Westfield takes down 5A #2 Zionsville 42-21 at Zionsville. After building a 28-7 halftime lead which should have been 31-7 (missed close FG), Westfield had a sloppy 3rd quarter with two turnovers that resulted in 14 Zionsville points. They righted the ship in the 4th on the back of their Mr. Do Everything Michah Hauser, who had a 43 yard TD run, then a 95 yard fumbled interception return for a TD late in the game. QB Maximus Webster added a 83 yard TD run. Next week the Rocks return home to play a much improved 2-1 Noblesville.
  5. Sorry for taking so long to reply, but you are correct. Coach Gilbert confirmed this on his weekly TV show. New Pal and Lawrence Central next year.
  6. Has to be Brebeuf willing at Chatard, right? What about West Lafayette over Jeff? Did Jeff lose a lot from last year's team?
  7. I'm not sure who the two nonconference games are next season. Lafayette Harrison is probably one game. We continued to schedule them even after the three Lafayette schools left the HCC.
  8. Your correct, my error. It was two picks each. Webster did come back into the game. Ballard remained on a training table until the end of the game. They were working on his right knee. Both teams had the usual first game mistakes. A simple false start cost Westfield a TD, which would have made it 14-7 with plenty of the 4th quarter left. Those things will get cleaned up. And the beat goes on, except for last year. Westfield won both of these games on their way to both undefeated JV and Freshman team seasons.
  9. Really! I have no idea why Cathedral doesn't want play up to 6A for the tournament. They will again roll over 5A opponents come tournament time. They they will have no choice next year, as the success factor will bump them up to 6A.
  10. Westfield also was without QB Maximus Webster for a lot of the second and third quarter, after taking a hit early second quarter. Backup Cole Ballard (Colt's GM's son) threw three of the four pics, the last two when Westfield was knocking on the door to score. Westfield also had a TD taken away via a penalty after Ballard ran it in. The next play he was knocked out with a knee injury, and Webster came back in. Westfield had no answer for that huge, quick Cathedral defense. They almost totally shut down the run game and were in the QBs face almost all game. Credit Westfield's defense, down their best player, but still held the Irish to 14 poinits, and if not for two very costly Ballard errant throws deep in Irish territory, could have actually won this game.
  11. I remember back in the early 2000's asking one of the higher ups (not in the athletic dept.) in the Carmel Clay school system if they would ever split into two high schools. This was around the time that the HSE district decided to split and build Fishers High School. He kinda looked at me like that was a stupid question, then said there was no way Carmel would ever split, and said flat out that sports was the primary reason. If the HSE district had not split, HSE would now be close to 7,000 students. I know here in Westfield, there have been parents move a few miles up 31 from Carmel just so their kids have more of a chance to play than they do in Carmel, although that may change with Westfield's enrollment calculated to soon reach close to 3,000.
  12. A P/P sweep of the lower five classes, and 8 of them overall would not set well with some people.
  13. The NCAA changed the automatic ejection rule for a player penalized for targeting. I did not know this until seeing a Purdue player penalized for this last week. It was mentioned then that he didn't have to do what they called "the walk of shame" to the locker room. The player did remain on the sideline.
  14. So what's up with LC. Same district as LN, but on opposite ends of the football spectrum.
  15. Ok I had forgotten that Z'ville was in 6A last year. Maybe if the IHSAA wants the north represented by someone other than Carmel every year, they may keep Carmel south.
  16. i'm wondering why you think Carmel will be moved back north? With Zionsville up to 6A, wouldn't they be the choice to replace Merrillville? Two northern teams moving down to 5A, but Zionsville and the Hammond consolidation up to 6A, to me it seems logical that those two new 6A teams will be placed north, with Carmel staying put in the south. Unless I'm missing something here.
  17. Against the mighty Wood Woodchucks...LOL I'm old enough to remember that tie game. It kept Cathedral from winning the then mythical, voted on, state title. Lose to Wood, you don't put that team in your top three.
  18. I agree. I was at that Z'ville/Westfield game. It was 42-0 at halftime. Webster was still a game removed from becoming the starting QB. Irish will name their score tonight.
  19. Agree to a point. The schools you mentioned hung around until CG decided to destroy them. CG did this to Westfield almost from the get go. Westfield did run for 136 yards. Micha Hauser, running on a bad ankle, ran for 118 yards in only 11 carries. Did CG allow another 100 yard rusher this season? CG only gave up an average of 38 yards per game. Westfield "won" the second half 7-0. As you said, CG did not let off of the gas. They didn't pull their starters until almost the final minute of the game, after Westfield had already pulled their starters. Westfield's defense really cranked it up the second half, especially Popeye Williams, who's being recruited by many of the top D1 schools. That pick by Kyle Pape made #1 on ESPN's Top Play Of The Day. As sort of a consolation, Westfield's Benji Welch was awarded the Mental Attitude Award.
  20. JV and freshmen were undefeated, playing the same schedule as the varsity. Yes, that means both beat Cathedral. Eight grade team was also undefeated. As for the rapidly growing community, as a family moving into a district with athletes, you always look at the school's facilities. Some have said Riverview Health Stadium is the best in Indiana.
  21. Westfield's size didn't matter to them at all except for the two losses. Come on, CG has lineman as large as some that play in the NFL. Not only that, but speed all over the place. There's a reason why the ones in the know practically gave them the 6A trophy prior to the start of the season. They made just about everyone they played in the mighty MIC look bad.
  22. However, growing rapidly, due to many people moving into the Whitestown area, where Amazon is now a fixture, along with other businesses that have located there in recent years.
  23. I won't post since it's against the rules. This article was in The Star several days ago. Kyle's Twitter account also had the link to the article, and drew a LOT of comments, mostly saying that the P/P schools have an unfair advantage.
  24. I ran this back and took this photo a split second before the receiver goes out of bounds. He did NOT run out prior to contact. As you can see here, the defender was in contact with the receiver. It was the correct call.
