Rivalry trophies
WestfieldRocks replied to crimsonace1's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
That's pretty cool! As a Cathedral alum, I don't remember this. I wonder why the games with Sacred Heart after 1956 are not listed? We played them every year through the time that Sacred Heart had the name change to Kennedy High School, and then merged with Chartrand to form today's Roncalli. Westfield and Noblesville play annually for the Midland Rail trophy. The old Midland RR ran between Westfield and Noblesville. Today it is a paved pedestrian trail. -
THIS! Nothing to do with drones, cell phone cameras, and whatever else. I have a good friend who's ex was the chopper pilot for many years for a local Indy TV station. They covered not only high school football, but would go up when there was a bad traffic backup, accidents, etc. for live reports. Radio station WIBC was known for their helicopter news and traffic reports with Big John Gillis. It actually crashed on the Speedwayi High School football field one day while covering traffic. Paul Page, who at that time was the Voice Of The Indyi 500, was also on that flight and suffered injuries. I have a good friend who's ex was the chopper pilot for many years for a local Indy TV station. She told me he lost his job when the station sold the chopper. Both Channels 8 and 13 flew to several different high schools on a Friday evening. Dave Calabro at 13 and Anthony Calhoun at 8. However, they are still out there on Friday nights during high school football season, just now using SUVs, meaning they can't cover as many games on any given night.

Week 9 Scores
WestfieldRocks replied to Komets2727's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Westfield 44 Franklin Central 7 For the third week in a row, Westfield dominates a pretty good opponent. Rocks led 38-0 at halftime, so a running clock the entire second half. Rocks went with subs the endtire second half, and still put together two nice drives that both ended up in field goals. FC scored their only TD inside the last minute of the game. With the win and Brownsburg's loss to HSE, Westfield grabs a share of the HCC title! -
6A Tournament Discussion
WestfieldRocks replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Yep, happened to Westfield last year, just one home game, and that was against HSE in the regional. I believe CP had only one road game. If Westfield does have to travel up there again this season, hopefully the school will shell out the $$$ and send the team up on charters, and not school busses. -
First, my first paragraph was not supposed to reply to Temp's initial spreadsheet. It was supposed to go to MarshallCounty's post that shared a link that looks to be outdated info. Second, Temp, this link is great, since it has each school within the corporation listed and is current through this year. One thing that people around here wonder about is the dropoff in wins at Avon as far as their football team. Looking at this sheet, I was surprised that they had grown so much, over 3,400 kids at the high school this year. Of those, 41% qualify for the free or reduced lunch. That may tell a story there, as if you look back just 5 years, at the 2019 sheet, the number was around 28%. When Avon played at Westfield two weeks ago, I did not try to count, but it was obvious that they had considerably fewer players dressed compared to Westfield, but a school with about 600 more kids. Maybe because of Homecoming, Westfield dressed a bunch of younger kids that night, I don't know.

What year is this data? Looking at Westfield's high school number of around 1,900, that is well short of the actual students in the high school, and the total number in the district, all grades, several thousand under the number on Temp's spreadsheet, that has numbers up to this year. Yea, since this sheet includes all schools in a district, and not broken out per each school.

I'd put Westfield at a higher % if the game against CP were played here. For some reason,, I would not discount Carmel. They should have a win at Zionsville, meaning a Westfield/Carmel rematch would be at Camel for the third straight year. Carmel played them tough at Westfield back in week #2.

Westfield 46 Fishers 12 After a Fishers 3 and out to start the game, Westfield goes 77 yards on the first play from scrimmage, that set the tone for the entire game. Fishers only had two first downs after the third quarter. Westfield never punted.

Week 6 Scores

Westfield had so many chances. They forced four turnovers on Brownsburg's end, but could not capitalize. Another possible fumble was ruled down by contact, but the replay looked like it was a clear takeaway. Three times, they had the ball inside the 10, but could only come away with one field goal. The other two times, they failed on 4th down, and one of those was after having a second and goal from the one yard line. Brownsburg's winning TD was a 94 yard kickoff return after Westfield's field goal that at the time made it 13-8. Brownsburg's only other TD was in the second quarter, a 12 yard drive after the Westfield snap went over the head of the punter. On the 3rd down play before Westfield's last field goal score, their QB, Carson Melvon, was absolutely creamed by a Brownsburg defender. He left the game and never returned. Their backup, whom I don'e believe played any if much all season, was ineffective on Westfield's drives after that. -
Time was announced as a 3pm kickoff.

Westfield at Brownsburg has been postponed to Saturday. No time has been announced as of 4pm.

Friday Night Weather
WestfieldRocks replied to WestfieldRocks's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I agree, especially in S. Indiana, which is expected to get rougher weather than here in N. Central IN. As of 3:30, a few gusts of wind, but nothing out of the ordinary. Off and on rain showers. They say the poop will hit the fan around 5pm and continue until almost midnight. -
For yet another week, it looks like games could well be affected by thunderstorms. The remains of Hurricane Helene look to be on track to hit Indiana, especially southern Indiana. Rain and winds up to 30 mph as well as possible storms.

Actually they cleared the Carmel hurdle two years ago, both that game and last year's sectional games were at Carmel. Guess we shall see on Friday!

Agree with your picks, except, yes, the Westfield at Brownsburg game. The "Burg has had Westfield's number for most of their time in the HCC. Hoping I'm wrong, but this game is at their place. Brownsburg 31 - Westfield 20

Westfield 21 HSE 14 OT Defensive battle for most of the game. After just over an hour delay for lightning before the start, Westfield gets the only score in the firsts half on a 62 yard TD run by Deacon King. HSE misses a 50 yard FG at the end of the first half. Second half more of the same, but a LOT of penalties called on both teams, stopping potential scoring drives. Westfield partially blocked a HSE punt, giving them great field position inside the HSE 40, only to have back to back holdiing calls negate any scoring threat. Westfield QB Carsen Melvin also dropped two handoffs to the running back, losing one of them, again near midfield. Having a 72% completion rate going into this game, he did not have a good game, and had several drops by receivers. Finally, after a HSE TD drive, Westfield quickly regains the lead 14-7 on a King 58 yard TD catch and run. Westfield had a chance to put this one away late, but their kicker had a 33 yard attempt doink first off of the left upright, then down and off of the crossbar. HSE took advantage, thanks to a 4th down run deep in their own end, followed by a long pass into the Westfield red zone. A few plays later, it's tied at 14. Time ends with Westfield in their own end and letting the clock run down. Westfield has the ball first in OT, and immediately scores on a 10 yard run..PAT makes it 21-14. After two runs up the gut by HSE, on 3rd and goal from the Westfield 4, the HSE running back has the ball stripped by Micha Webster. Westfield recovers, game over. Next week at Brownsburg.

My "OH MY" teams of the week!
WestfieldRocks replied to Tippy's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Union County still has not scored, losing to Hagerstown 62-0. Through four games, they have been outscored 262-0. Warren Central isn't the only team to not allow a point through four games. Mississinewa has outscored four opponents 152-0. Martinsville trailed Decatur Central 35-0, but came back ans won 39-38. -

Brebeuf wins this game 69-62. 1,628 yards of total offense. Harris of Brebeuf rushes for 402 yards and 5 TDs. Guerin's QB throws for 638 yards and 8 TDs. Guerin had a receiver with 26 catches for 397 yards and 6 TDs. Where was the defense :) -
Week #4 scores
WestfieldRocks replied to Gridiron_Junkie's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Westfield 38 Noblesville 18 Westfield led the entire game, but it was close until the last 4 minutes of the game. Westfield was up two scores at 24-6. Noblesville scores, misses the PAT, so it was 24-12. Noblesville recovers the onside kick, and a few plays later, Noblesville actually threw a long TD pass to make it 24-18. About 4 minutes to play. This time Westfield recovers the onside kick. Noblesville, playing the run, gets fooled when Westfield throws a 50 yard TD pass to Gabe Aramboles, making it 31-18. Several plays after the Westfield kickoff, Noblesville's QB is hit as he throws, and Westfield picks it off for an easy pick 6. 38-18. Three TDs total in about two minutes towards the end of the game. -

And Cambridge City (CC) has lost their other two games by a combined score of 116-7. -
Westfield still needs to find it's run game. With the departure of their 1,100+ back Garnett from last year to Warren Central, they are still lacking a bit. If they had Garnett, this team would be awfully tough to beat. Miracle was Gilbert's assistant for all 13 years that Gilbert was the head coach. He knows, the system, the kids coming up, so there should be no issues in that regard.

The sanctity of Friday nights
WestfieldRocks replied to Impartial_Observer's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Add to that, this game is only available on Peacock, meaning if you don't shell out the extra $, you won't be able to watch it. This, plus those mostly awful Thursday night games, which are now on Prime TV, you'd think the NFL would be losing a lot of it's audience. Play 'em on Sunday afternoon (i don't care for the Sunday night games either), Monday night, and Thanksgiving Thursdays.
