  1. Back 10 years ago when Indy hosted the Super Bowl, the NFL put money into Tech's stadium. I think that is something they do in every SB host city.
  2. I say if one could bet on high school football, I'd throw down my entire retirement $ on Lutheran :)
  3. Ummm, looks like few if any bleachers! I also remember a game that was supposed to be there a few years ago that had to be cancelled when the assigned officials did not show up. I remember a Westfield/Scecina tournament game years ago where Scecina played at Howe High School's field. There were only bleachers on the home team side, so fans of both schools sat on the same side. Westfield's bench was still on the other side. It was odd seeing them over there by themselves. As for your question, that was sort of mine. I would think that were the game was actually played would be what counts. You are right that this could affect Roncalli's home team status down the road.
  4. They and HSE may be the only two schools that have played in all 6 classes. Westfield played in the 1A tournament prior to the current "all in" format, and were 2A runner up to FW Luers in 1992. I don't believe they ever won a 3A or 4A sectional, but they were not in either one of those classes for very long.
  5. Roncalli's blowout of Shortridge was supposed to be a Shortridge home game. However, it was moved to Roncalli. Not sure the reason. Supposedly the same will happen next week when they play Attucks.
  6. Back in week one, when Westfield played them at their place, the announcers said the same thing. I know Westfield coach Jake Gilbert said that prior to last week, they were 5-3 with all three losses coming to undefeated teams, New Pal, HSE, and Brownsburg. He mentioned that New Pal was the best of those teams. Guess we'll never know for sure. And Bud Wright keeps on winning. This was his 100th playoff win!
  7. HCC final scores: HCC game of the week: HSE 31, Brownsburg 28 HSE finishes 9-0, HCC champs. Probably will be the new #! in 6A this next week. Noblesville 43, Avon 41. Defensive struggle LOL Westfield 24, Franklin Central 13 Westfield scored 21 first quarter points, and only added a 3rd quarter 44 yard field goal with last night's wind that looked good from 60. Offensive woes or just better defensive adjustments by FC? QB Cole Ballard left the game in the 3rd quarter and never returned. Not sure, but he was standing without helmet, being talked to by several trainers. Possible concussion? He did put on his helmet and joined his teammates on the sideline, but never reentered the game. Fishers 37, Zionsville 7 What has happened to the Eagles? After a 4-1 start, their last four games have all been losses, two blowouts and a 18 point loss to HSE among these.
  8. The last thing needed is something like the old Cluster System to determine playoff teams. That was more of a cluster ****
  9. I tend to agree as far as the Top 10. Westfield played and lost to HSE, B'Burg, and New Pal, and Coach Gilbert has said he thinks New Pal is the best of those teams. Hard to say since their schedule does not allow for comparison.
  10. I remember years ago when Cathedral had scheduling problems when the other Indy Catholic schools would not play them, and they had problems finding local schools to play, and had to resort to playing more of a statewide and out of state schedule. Is that a problem today with Chatard and Brebeuf on the schedule?
  11. You almost had the Westfield/HSE score dead on. This loss was purely on Westfield. Too many penalties again. This is the most undisciplined Jake Gilbert team I've seen. Five of those penalties were personal fouls. Still, If Westfield doesn't gift HSE 17 points, they win this one. It was not a good night for QB Cole Ballard. Three turnovers. The first, a backward pass on the first play of the game, where it looked like Westfield was coming out with a halfback option pass. Unfortunately, the initial pass by Ballard hit the ground well in front of the back, and HSE recovered at the Westfield 10. That's 7 points. Early second half, Westfield on their own end, Ballard throws a pass right to an HSE defensive back, who runs it down to Westfield's eight yard line. They hold, but HSE still gets another gifted three points. Finally, after Westfield went from 14 down to just 7 down, they got a defensive stop, and got the ball back and had a chance to take their first lead of the game, Ballard, under pressure at his 40, throws a short pass that goes right to an HSE defender, who had a clear 45 yard path to the end zone. Two point conversion failed, so Westfield trails by 13. Westfield comes right back and scores again with about 1:20 to go and has all timeouts, so now down just 6. The onside kick fails and HSE runs out the clock. Tough one this Friday at Brownsburg, who may have the best team in 6A. I still say that New Pal is the best team Westfield has faced. That's no knock on HSE. New Pal is that good.
  12. The past two years, CG and Westfield, both around 2,500 enrollment, no where near the mega enrollments of Carmel, Warren, BD
  13. Westfield still has work to do. As against New Pal, too many mistakes against LC. Five personal foul penalties, two penalties for not getting a defensive player off of the field in time. Three turnovers, two of which were great throws from Cole Ballard that the receiver simply allowed to deflect off their hands and be intercepted. Still, there offensive was nearly unstoppable when they didn't stop themselves with the above. So they got the two TD win against LC. Zionsville will be a tough game for them.
  14. Thanks, but again, just a comedy of errors. Westfield was lucky to have only lost by 14. First play of the second half, a bad exchange between the QB and running back results in a fumble at the New Pall 22. Three plays later, New Pal is up 21. Westfield comes back to make a two score game, recovers an onside kick, has it down inside the 10 on 4th down, about a minute to go with a time out left, and the QB clocks the ball! Westfield had four drives go inside the New Pal 30 without scoring. They only punted one time. Now they do have a bunchh of new guys, but still. Their defense looked to be their strong suit early in the season, but they got burnt time and again by the New Pal offense. Next week won't be any easier as they host a much improved Lawrence Central team.
  15. Halftine - Westfield looks totally unprepared, which just doesn't happen to a Jake Gilbert coached team. Deep in New Pal territory, they get a snap to the QB on 4th and one that the QB Ballard wasn't ready for. Turn over on downs. Two straight passes on another possession in New Pal territory, wide open receivers, both passes were overthrown. Then after a 95 yard kickoff return when it was 14-0 makes it 14-7, New Pal late in the half pulled off a fake punt just inside of Westfield territory that went for a TD. You have to be alert for a fake punt in that situation. Westfield was apparently not ready for it. Finally, with little time left, Westfield hits a long pass inside New Pal's 10. The short field goal attempt was no good because the snap didn't get back to the holder. Just a comedy of errors by Westfield so far. For some reason, their latest Mr. Do Everything, Purdue recruit Dillon Theniman, has not played a down in this game. He did play in last Friday's Carmel/Ben Davis scrimmage. No reason was given why he hasn't player. New Pal looks as good as advertised. Westfield needs to go back to the drawing board.
  16. Is NewPalRadio.com only audio? The IHSAA TV link also points to this site, so no video streaming of this game?
  17. I totally agree.. Back when Carmel and CG were booted out of the MIC, someone on this board posted that these two schools combined to win almost all of the MIC titles in both boys and girls sports in the last full school year. I''m sure that was a big influence in this decision.
  18. The HCC brings in plenty of revenue as it is. Even the smallest school, Zionsville, with about 2,200 enrollment, packs them in for home football games. I have driven by the Carmel stadium which is right off of Keystone and seen plenty of empty seats for their home football games. The HCC is big enough now that they don't really need other schools to boost their attendance.
  19. One thing that I have not seen discussed here is possible scheduling of this new 10 team HCC. In the beginning, it was nine teams, with the current teams minus Franklin Central plus Lafayette Harrison and McCutcheon. Then Lafayette Jeff was added, making it a 10 team league. The football coaches and ADs never liked the fact that playing the other 9 teams meant no non conference games. That, plus the travel involved, eventually ended in the three Lafayette schools out. If that same thinking holds true today, the HCC, if it goes back to 10 schools, would have to either go back to playing no non conference games, or perhaps forming two divisions, five teams each, playing the other four division teams plus a couple from the other division, with the two division winners playing in week 9. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
  20. UIndy just last week offered Westfield's Mr. Do Everything Micha Hauser.
  21. CG coach Moore said right after the game that Westfield played CG tougher than any other school had during their current 28 game win streak. I'd think he knows what he's talking about.
  22. Did you read what the Brownsburg coach said after that BD game? Basically he said it was hard to beat a team that had three weeks to prepare. Obviously this was a knock on BD having no competition in their sectional and didn't have to prepare like Brownsburg did in their sectional. Now that was no excuse for Brownsburg to lay an egg in that game, but remember, the "Burg handled BD in their regular season game. Yes, the gap has closed between the two conferences. I know this is a football board, but you'd be hard pressed to find a conference that is better overall in total boys and girls sports than the HCC. Throw out Carmel, and it's not even close. It would be very interesting if HSE had not split off into two high schools 15 years ago. Now you'd be talking about a school larger than Carmel with the combined talent of HSE and Fishers.
  23. So for those in the know, what kind of drop off, if any, is expected from Center Grove next season?
