  1. And HSE almost beat Brownsburg at Brownsburg in week 9, while Westfield beat HSE both at home and away. I'm not saying Westfield was as good as Brownsburg, but they were not 30 points worse. Just one of those games where everything went wrong for one team and right for the other team. You don't win 11 games with the schedule that they play in the HCC plus LC and New Pal if your not a good team. You are correct 17-0 at halftime.
  2. Just going off what I saw for two huge football games. Maybe because they were out in the weather? With well over 4,000 kids in the school, there should be a huge throng of purple. True, CP won, and now here's wishing they good luck against BD.
  3. You probably are right. Going into that atmosphere for the first time is something else. Not sure if this BD bunch has played a game there in recent years, but just making the short trip from the westside sure beats an almost 3 hour bus ride. I know Westfield was awestruck against both playing in LOS and CG in 2020, but that same group the next year had the experience of that game and believed they could beat CG, and came within 10 yards at the end of the game of doing just that. I imagine CP will fill their side of available seats at LOS. It's doubtful that BD will, after seeing the empty seats in their stands for the huge Brownsburg and CG games.
  4. However, the Rocks did catch up, and as I posted in another thread, I really think they would have scored had they gone for two with 18 seconds left in regulation. CP's defense looked a bit gassed after Westfield scored 21 straight points. This was also mentioned by Kyle Neddenriep of the Indy Star on a local Indy morning sports show. When asked about CP, he mentioned that the past two weeks they barely escaped after giving up multi score leads.
  5. Westfield ended up playing four of their last five games on the road, including three of four in the tournament. Unlucky draw I suppose as far as who gets to host these games. However, they had their shot. Unfortunately they got off to what Coach Gilbert said was an atrocious start. One fumble and one failed fake punt were a part of that.
  6. I was sure when Westfield scored with 18 seconds to play that they would go for two, win it, and head back to LOS. For whatever reason, Coach Gilbert kicked the tying PAT, and they lose to CP in double OT. Westfield appeared to have all of the momentum. They had not stopped CP's running game all night. Kendall Garnett was finally cranking off nice runs. CP's defense looked a bit tired. But it is what it is. Congrats to CP, who will take on BD for the 6A championship next Saturday night at LOS.
  7. Driving? Haven't you heard, were coming up on the Colt's team jet :) Seriously, Westfield recently knocked both Merriville and FW Carroll around with those being long drives. Like others have said, I don't believe the long ride, as the players aren't driving, won't make that much if any difference.
  8. That was more like a monsoon at times. Yes, the punter hit bombs, then set a state finals record 52 yard field goal along with two others over 40 yards each the next week against Columbus East in the 2016 5A championship game.
  9. As an example, In the past 10 seasons, Westfield has won at Ft. Wayne Snider 36-7, at one loss Merrillville 42-23, and at one loss Ft. Wayne Carroll 37-14. I know HSE lost at Carroll last year, but Carmel has also had a lot of success playing up north.
  10. Westfield's Kendall Garnett ran for 219 yards and all three Westfield TDs.
  11. That's not a rumor about Coleton Vondersaar. He broke his leg with 17 seconds left in the first half. He was on the field for a long time while geting medical attention, and eventually an ambulance ride to the hospita. However, HSE only scored once with him out in the second half, and they have two of the best backs around. That score was helped by a short field when Westfield fumbled at midfield, their only turnover of the game.
  12. Some kid named George McGinnis was a hell of a football player for him.
  13. Westfield 24 HSE 21 Heck of a game, back and forth. Unfortunately one of Westfield's better defensive players suffered a serious leg injury with just 17 seconds to go in the first half. He had to be taken off in an ambulance. Play was suspended for almost a half an hour. In fact, the two teams agreed to just run the last 17 seconds off of the clock and go to their locker rooms. The HSE QB also was injured in the first half. Could not tell, but possibly a shoulder injury. I don't believe that he ever reentered the game. That was a tough break for them. Twice HSE went on 4th and short in Westfield territory. Both times they came up just inches short. The last time was with less than two minutes to play. Westfield was able to get a first down and run out the clock. All that remains is to see who the Rocks opponent will be next week.
  14. Back in my day, Manual, Tech, Broad Ripple, Washington, Attucks, and even Northwest were very good in sports. This was the late 60's, early 70's. You are correct about it ruining not only their identities, but their feeling of community. As a kid, I remember Broad Ripple's run to the title game of the 1963 Semi State, where they lost to Muncie Central. After they won what then was one of the toughest sectional in the state, the one at Butler, the entire Broad Ripple community and area where those kids lived were decked out, businesses with signs, banners, all in orange and black. Fast forward to their 1980 state championship run. Almost nothing like that was seen. Many of the kids on that team did not live in the area. The feeling of the community was not the same.
  15. Some would call The Villages the Disney World for retired people....LOL
  16. Why would Westfield play at CP, if CP already has played two home games to Westfield's one? I thought that was the determining factor, and that placement on the bracket only came into play if both teams had played an equal number of games at home? Just wondering.
  17. If I read the schedules corerctly, Penn will be playing their third home tournament game and CP will have played their previous two tournament games at home. Since both Westfield and HSE will have only played one home game after this weekend, the winner of that game would stay home for the Semi State and the Penn/CP winner gets the long trip down here, correct?
  18. Same. I thought that only the NFL had the posts set closer together.
  19. Westfield 24 Noblesville 12 Noblesville took a 6-3 field goal battle late into the 3rd quarter, by using a bunch of clock with their ball control offense. When Westfield did have the ball, they had too many mistakes via costly penalties. Then late in the third, disaster stuck Noblesville. First, their punter drops the ball deep in their own end on 4th down. Westfield runs in an easy 8 yard "drive". Then on the kickoff, Noblesville again fumbles and Westfield recovers. Four plays later from the Noblesville nine yard line, it's 17-6 Westfield. Noblesville does put together a nice drive and scores, but misses the two point conversion 17-12 Westfield. The Rocks have a time consuming drive come up empty. However Noblesviile turns it over on their own 30 via a Westfield interception. This time Westfield takes almost all of the time off of the clock, scoring a TD on a fake field goal play. That made the final 24-12. Rocks have their first home game in a month as they play for the regional championship with another rematch, this time against HSE, whom they beat with last second TD at HSE during the regular season.
  20. That's more like it :) Agreed. Chatard could compete in 4A, but 5A and especially 6A would probably be too much.
  21. 70's? I was at Hinkle to see tiny Center Grove knock off mighty Richmond in the Semi-State. If memory serves me correctly, Richmond was ranked #1. A CG kid hit a shot at the buzzer to win. CG was then beaten by eventual state champ Connersville in the night title game. CG didn't seem to be a big school at all in the 70's.
