  1. Westfield 38 Carmel 34 Carmel came out strong, scoring 14 points on their first two possessions. Then Westfield scored the next 28 points, highlighted by an 80 yard punt return and an 89 yard pass play to tight end Caiden Snow. Westfield scored out of the gate in the second half to take a 28-14 lead. Carmel answered, but Westfield added a field goal, which turned out to be the difference in the game. The Rocks scored a TD with under three minutes to play. Carmel answered with a TD pass with no time left on the clock. Next week the Rocks are home again to take on Zionsville. Carmel returns home to take on Center Grove.
  2. I've read that 50 employees would be all they need to keep a data center running. The number of kids is indeed trending down. Here in Westfield, they had a demographer and his company run the numbers for this past year. This is not analyzing just the current population, but homes under construction, subdivisions approved but have yet built, and things like the number of homes of the total in the city that have no kids. This includes homes that house only adults where the kids have grown up and moved, or homes with people of child bearing age who choose not to have kids. In Westfield, that is just over 60% of households. I remember our mayor said he was shocked at that news. Now as for the schools, yes, the high school is at 3,000 and still growing. However the demographer looks at all grades, from preschool to 12th grade. Those lower grades are where the numbers really are sliding. He said this is happening in every school district in Hamilton County. I remember he used HSE as an example. That school system has lost over 1,000 kids since it's peak. I can imagine in the 1A and 2A public schools, all pretty much located in rural areas, these lower numbers are already happening.
  3. All money is dirty, as in not clean. You remember, the don't touch anything times during early Covid.
  4. Westfield has been doing this now for several years. Buy your tickets in advance online. I believe this started here with Covid, you know, money is not clean, don't want to pass around the virus.
  5. Homestead had a game at Westfield last season, and Westfield travels up north to play them on week 1 this season.
  6. 6A Westfoe;d played them home and home a few years ago. NP won by 14 points in that first game, but Westfield won by 20 points the following year.
  7. When they pulled HSE and Fishers into the same sectional with Westfield and Carmel, Zionsville and Harrison had to be moved elsewhere. Geographically where they put them makes sense. Face it, there's few is any cupcake sectionals in central Indiana.
  8. Thanks for the info. I can say that I recently heard that Westfield is no longer allowing transfers into the high school due to space concerns. I am sorted of surprised by the Westfield number of transfers out to Sheridan. I know of a few parents that live in Westfield Washington Township that send their kids to Sheridan due to the size of Westfield, and the fact that Sheridan is still considered a rural school, and believe it or not, there are still farms and rural areas in Westfield. That transfer out number at Avon is very large. I am not surprised though at the number from that number that tansferred to Plainfield.
  9. Kind of an odd 6A game. After Westfield held Brownsburg to 14 points in the 14-10 conference loss, I was hoping for a few more points out of the Rocks, and their firsts 6A championship. Well, I got the wish on the more points. In fact, a lot more points. However the same result, Brownsburg 38, Westfield 31. Have to give the Rocks credit for not quitting when down 38-17 early in the 4th quarter. Two TDs made it close at the end, the last on a nice trick play where the QB hands off to the back, who takes a step forward, jumps, and throws the ball to a wide open receiver in the end zone. Basically the same play that beat Carmel in OT in the sectional final, except that time it was the QB who threw the pass. Brownsburg's huge offensive line was in control for most of the game, but was just too much for the Rocks, as the appeared to wear down in the second half. Westfield loses a lot along the offensive and defensive lines, but as they have done, probably will just reload from a very good group of younger players.
  10. First, one of the local TV stations had on their web site that he was told that there was going to be a change in a different direction. Oftentimes, especially in the business world, the word is that they "retired', left to pursue an other opportunity", and so on. Second, point #2 could be the big reason. Compare these three schools and city/town's populations. Avon, a town, is now estimated at around 23K, Brownsburg, also a town, at estimated at 32K, and Wesfield, a city, is now estimated at 51K. Now look at the school enrollments. Brownsburg's is 3,464, Avon's is 3,476. Westfield's is 2,960. That tells me that either Westfield is a much older community, so fewer kids in the schools, which it is not, or there are a lot of kids from other areas, particularly Wayne Township driving across the county line to Avon and Brownsburg.
  11. It was. Westfield had that long bus trip, and for some unknown reason, didn't hire transportation, rather they had their busses take them up there. They pretty much controlled the second half. Jake Gilbert was a heck of a coach, but most Westfield people will tell you that he made a mistake when Westfield had the chance to win the game with a two point conversion late in regulation and went for the tie and OT. Westfield's running back was not to be stopped late in that game. They had the momentum. Should have cashed in there instead of OT. Then last year, the reverse. CP looked slow, nothing like the northern folks here advertised. Westfield dominated from the beginning.
  12. Now their 6th championship game in the past 12 years.
  13. As just a fan, I hated when Westfield had to play Noblesville during those years. I remember one game where Noblesville had the ball for something like but 6-7 minutes of the first half. Westfield eventually put up a couple of scores, forcing Noblesville to actually throw some passes, but that offense was very tough to defend.
  14. It's round 2 next week at LOS. Westfield against Brownsburg.
  15. Until the second half. Everiytime Westfield goes north, they must have bus fatigue. Takes them time to get going. Tonight was no exception. Total domination by the Rocks in the second half. And Deacon King
  16. Except Rocks played and defeated Fishers for the second time in a month :)
  17. Agree. Last year was Brownsburg's first state title since winning back to back (3A then 4A) in 1984-1985. Westfield is on the cusp of this. A 5A title and one 5A runner up, then three 6A runners up in the last 12 years. If they could have won that second Center Grove and last year's Brownsburg game, almost pulling both out at the end, then they would be in the conversation for sure.
  18. Yea, plus their massive press box is apparently being replaced. Not surprised by the Westfield turnout, even though they did have that long 5 mile drive down to Carmel's stadium :)
  19. You are correct. I was watching the television broadcast with Greg Rakestraw, and I thought they said that it was Snow, but it was Connor.
  20. True, but that was an amazing game. Hard to believe that Westfield has now beaten Carmel three straight time in this sectional. All games at Carmel. Another rematch nexr week. Westfield vs. Fishers. That was another close game at Westfield, 14-7 Rocks.
  21. I think the second year Westfield head coach out coached the future HOF Carmel coach.
  22. Whereas Carmel was satisfied for the field goal to go up three on their OT possession, Westfield went all or nothing. That kid that caught the pass, former Colt's center Justin Snow's kid, is already a good one, and only a freshman playing 6A varsity ball.
  23. BD and Carmel have had radio since as long as I can remember. The Calabro brothers came from BD radio. For those that listen, or used to, to Bob and Tom, KIristi Lee also came from BD radio.
  24. Halftime: Westfield 31 Zionsville 14 Game opened with back to back kickoff returns for touchdowns. Settled down after that. Westfield started to take control in the second quarter.
