  1. Westfield 34 New Pal 14 Westfield dominated from the start, holding the Dragons to a 3 and out, blocking the punt, and going in for the TD four plays later. Next play, Westfield intercepts the New Pal pass, and several plays later, it's 14-0. Westfield will miss a field goal, but connect on another to make it 17-0. After a Westfield punt is downed at the one yard line, New Pal fumbles in the end zone, Westfield recovers to make it 24-0. That was the halftime score. First drive of the second half, Westfield marches down the field to make it 31-0. Possible running clock coming up. However, Westfield puts in their backups for the remainder of the game, New Pal scores their two TDs in between another Westfield field goal, to make the final 34-14.
  2. Actually, Jerry was first a DJ at WIFE radio when they first went on the air, and that was 1963. Jerry is from Sullivan, IN, and often has talked about when he was driving up to Indy for the job, he found out that his DJ name would be Jack Sunday. He has to be closing in on 80 years old, if not already there. Jerry also was the person who introduced The Beatles for their first of two shows during the 1964 Indiana State Fair. He was hired in 2017 to be the Pacers PA announcer after long time PA guy Reb Porter (another old WIFE DJ) retired. I never was at one of his games, but I heard it didn't go well. He was replaced the following season. The link below is about 2 minutes, starting with Jerry's introduction of the group.
  3. Good question. That might work. I do believe that schools can "punch above their weight class" if they so desire. So any school wishing to could voluntarily move up one class, correct? Maybe that's not the case today, but I do remember a school from the north doing that years ago. I can't remember which, but the move was from 4A to 5A.
  4. You are correct. I was thinking of the basketball State Finals.
  5. Yea, this one starting to look like the Mt. Vernon vs. Northridge 4A final last season.
  6. Ticketmaster recently had a BOGO event for some concerts, most of whom a lot of us probably never have heard of. One guy posted that he bought two tickets for one of these shows, so he actually just paid for one ticket for this special event. However, the Ticketmaster total fees were more than the second ticket that he got for free! It's too bad that the IHSAA has linked up with this organization. Just sell the tickets at the schools like in the past.
  7. Locals who pay for the Pacer games on Bally have said that their stream isn't the best.
  8. Inquiring minds want to know what channel :)
  9. No, but Fox 59 out of Indy used to have them before Fox Sports Indiana (now Bally). Before that the good old days of Channels 6 and 4 televising these game over the air.
  10. 107.5 The Fan out of Indy had the 2A game on this afternoon. I think they will be carrying all 6 games. If you are out of the Indy area, this station can be found on several online radio services, such as the TuneIn and IHeart Radio's apps.
  11. But he only carried 7 times. He had been going for a lot more carries per game.
  12. Bally Sports (formerly Fox Sports Midwest) is available on some cable providers. Comcast has them here. No additional charge. If not, I believe you have to pay to watch their internet app stream. That caused a ruckus prior to this year's Pacer's season, when Bally announced it would be charging $20/month to watch the stream. I don't see where you can pay for just the state finals games as you could the games leading up to this coming weekend.
  13. Was Jalen Alexander one of those injured Royals? He had rushed for well over 200 yards against both Westfield and Fishers in the tournament. He only ran it 7 for 19 total yards in this game. If so, that made a huge difference. Congrats to Carroll. Although I was hoping for a third straight 6A title game for an HCC school, from the stats, it looked like Carroll's defense won that game. They will have their hands full with a Center Grove team that easily dispatched of Cathedral. Most of their players have been there, done that at LOS. This will be new for the Carroll players. Oh, and there will be that long bus ride :)
  14. Outstanding time!
  15. The travel didn't seem to bother Westfield up at Merrillville in 2020. 41-23 Rocks win. Then Homestead goes to Westfield and loses 41-9. Last year Westfield travels to Carroll and wins going away 37-14. Also last year, it apparently did bother Merrillville in a 48-19 loss. So this theory must only apply to northern schools traveling south :)
  16. Curious to what your time was. Mine was 3:41:05 in the 2005 Chicago Marathon. Good enough to get me qualified for the next spring's Boston.
  17. Thanks for the explanation. Surely this is an odd situation. Maybe the IHSAA can do something to prevent it in the future.
  18. Ah, for the days when everything from basketball sectional championship games through the Semi State and Final 4 games were televised on free television.
  19. I had read that both IPS schools were scheduled for home games, but neither one had the appropriate stadium to host. Even at that, it doesn't seem right that Roncalli gets four straight at home, being that New Pal has already played one tournament game on the road.
  20. I heard that Z'Ville was racked by injuries the past month. Is this true? They got off to a 4-1 start, the only loss a close one at Westfield. As for the HCC, I agree. Five of the eight HCC teams won tonight over non conference opponents. FC barely lost to CG. he other two, Noblesville and Z'Ville played each other. Meanwhile, Carmel and Ben Davis both lost big.
  21. Back 10 years ago when Indy hosted the Super Bowl, the NFL put money into Tech's stadium. I think that is something they do in every SB host city.
  22. I say if one could bet on high school football, I'd throw down my entire retirement $ on Lutheran :)
  23. Ummm, looks like few if any bleachers! I also remember a game that was supposed to be there a few years ago that had to be cancelled when the assigned officials did not show up. I remember a Westfield/Scecina tournament game years ago where Scecina played at Howe High School's field. There were only bleachers on the home team side, so fans of both schools sat on the same side. Westfield's bench was still on the other side. It was odd seeing them over there by themselves. As for your question, that was sort of mine. I would think that were the game was actually played would be what counts. You are right that this could affect Roncalli's home team status down the road.
  24. They and HSE may be the only two schools that have played in all 6 classes. Westfield played in the 1A tournament prior to the current "all in" format, and were 2A runner up to FW Luers in 1992. I don't believe they ever won a 3A or 4A sectional, but they were not in either one of those classes for very long.
