Actually an extremely valid question. This may ruffle some feathers but the argument could be made that if you take a look at the remaining schools in the “MIC 6” the conference is actually more competitive on a statewide level in basketball, particularly from a depth standpoint. The remaining “MIC 6” actually has more state title contenders/elite basketball programs remaining than in football and that’s not even up for debate.

Not only will this guy vehemently deny that Cathedral boasts HUGE advantages over its public school counterparts, he will actually consistently double down and cite their supposed “huge disadvantage” usually in terms of enrollment. Someone should tell him, they are Goliath and not David. I’ve tried.

Some programs don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt. @HHF’s point about them always running into a juggernaut hits the mark but there are no excuses going forward now.

Though on a smaller scale, I’ve been awaiting Plainfield’s breakthrough to the next level in a similar fashion to what I mentioned about Homestead. You are probably right as Cathedral being out of the way should give us an accurate representation of where the Quakers stand in the 5A landscape. They are having an historic track season currently and if they can buy in to the Center Grove model there is zero reason they can’t take the next step.

Eh, record doesn’t tell the whole story here in my opinion. Until the last 3-4 years, Gibson had nearly a half dozen games on the schedule where they could simply show up and win handily. Even an average/slightly above average GS team can roll out of bed and beat Princeton, Washington, Pike Central and Tell City annually. One could make the argument that boosting their schedule the last 2-3 seasons benefitted then immensely when they arrived at LOS and had already seen teams on par with/better than Brebeuf.

The sky isn’t falling…it just wasn’t very high or blue to begin with.
