  1. I was anticipating this accomplishment. Coach Ginn and team. Having had a friend who played for a parochial in Cleveland (he was from a broken family and the sisters made sure he got directed to the right football school) and a friend who played at Massillon (both early 80's), I realized how big this title would be for Glenville and Cleveland.
  2. Early in the season, a much beloved friend who was a mentor to many men passed on. He had sold his business 25 years prior and devoted his life to helping other men in business and life. Afterwards, one man in devotion stated that most men don't "finish well" in life, but that our friend had indeed finished well and that was such a great testament of who he was. My uncle, a major basketball fan, always enjoyed hearing Jerry Baker, and I did as well. Here is hoping that Jerry finishes well.
  3. Bo Barzilauskas was a much different level player who should have been in NFL if not for burnout. Would have been D line, likely. His dad, Carl, was a high draft pick (OL) coming out of IU in early 70's (played for John Pont). Badass indeed.
  4. St. Edward Wins Rematch of 2021 State Title Game to Secure Back-to-Back State Championships Canton, OH – Top-ranked Lakewood St. Edward won its sixth football state championship in school history after defeating fourth-ranked Springfield in the Division I state title game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium on Friday night, 28-14. St. Edward (15-1) was led by their defense as the Eagles' defense tallied nine sacks, a forced fumble, and 11 tackles for loss. Just as he did a year ago, senior defensive lineman Wyatt Gedeon led the game in sacks with 3.5. The Eagles also were led by a strong rushing attack as St. Edward had 296 rushing yards as a team and had two players reach the triple digits mark.
  5. Is the next IU qb playing for Canfield in the Div. 3 final at 3pm?
  6. Any surprise that CC beat Hoban? South Range took it to Ironton in Div. 5 today. surprise? especially score?
  7. Mildly surprised Springfield took out Moeller. St. Edward though. If betting....
  8. O’Neil, after throwing for 410 yards and five touchdowns in the regular-season game, was limited to 7-for-15 passing for 75 yards and was sacked seven times. “We really worked on (defense) this week,” Moore said. “The defensive coaches really worked on it. We took last game personally.”
  9. Cathedral played in some really tough (cold, windy) weather for passing well against CG. And they have some high level players for passing. Having seen Carroll and NP in finals, it was as many have noted, no surprise what happened. Although, I watched the first two scores for EC and turned off particularly perplexed by the defensive plan of NP, which EC exposed. That nine man box overloaded to short side reminded me of when Johnny Carson would parody Robert Conrad in those battery commercials daring you to knock that battery off his shoulder.
  10. I rode the elevator with Jerry during the 2006 BB finals, thanked him and told him how much I had enjoyed his broadcasting all my years of hearing/seeing BB. But, yes, he may not be at his best currently.
  11. Will see who stays and the recruits that show up. It takes enough good players and coaches to make it happen. They are not competing with OSU, Michigan, and, perhaps Penn St, just the rest of teams in the league. Currently, there seems to be numerous issues that have IU near the bottom of BIG just two seasons after many thought it was the opposite. And, I note, it seems the basketball excitement is back, which I believe was a neglect issue for football there in the past.
  12. Was mildly surprised that Springfield took Moeller. Detroit King with another runaway score title in Michigan. And Mt. Carmel smashing another one out in IL. Loyola again, this time over Lincoln Way E. KY with Male in championship after taking the favorite St X, then Ballard after Trinity already lost.
  13. Another title is also a tribute to the late, great ball coach, Ray Schultz.
  14. Interesting an Ohio St guy takes over Wisconsin, seems odd.
  15. The controlled environment and excellent turf reveal the truth.
  16. Intriguing to see someone new at 6A Finals. Controlled environment, wonderful turf always reveals. Will see what happens.
  17. Awaiting the St. Edward-Moeller rematch next week (barring the weird) in OH. Watching Belleville, Michigan tomorrow. IL-Loyola-Lincoln-Way E matchup and Mt. Carmel (again) KY-curious semis.
  18. The Finals...... controlled environment with that great field. Always going to favor the best athletes.
