I am not sure why you have a problem with my statement. What Tyler Cherry or Danny O'Neil did in their Jr year is irrelevant for a Senior award. Both of them had terrific games against Ben Davis in Regional and Semi-State however ended up losing. I am not saying anything "bad" about either one. I am stating they would have had a better argument for Mr. Football. Since they did not and Josh Ringer did make it to the State Championship and performed at a high level in the State Championship it will likely go to Ringer.

Just correcting your error when you stated Cherry didn’t win a state Championship. He led his team to one last year. Additionally, winning a state title has never been a prerequisite to earning Mr. Football. I simply provided you an example of a past winner in which his team never made it out of a sectional. If winning a state title is now an expectation, the award is limited to 6 teams.

I never claimed you stated anything negative about anyone. Just don’t align with your criteria.

Danny O'Neil and Tyler Cherry had great years at QB against tough competition. Had either one of them made it to the State Championship game I think they would have been in the fight for Mr. Football (as would have Sherrell from Brownsburg at RB).

??? Tyler Cherry led CG to a state championship his junior year and had a great game against BD in the semi-state as a senior.  Not many teams put 30+ points on the Giants this year.

Russ Yeast lost the award to a QB that never made it out of a sectional.

And there will once again be outrage amongst 6A slappies.

No outrageat all....young man from EC heck of a year.  But the homer in me goes for Tyler Cherry, CG QB.  One of the nation's top prospects.

34 TD's, 6 picks and a 133.7 QB rating against a very tough regional schedule.  (Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee schools)

Ohio State is not one of the top four.  They were an interception in the chest and an addition problem away from losing to what turned out to be a mediocre Notre Dame team.

Were down at halftime to Rutgers, tied with barely bowl eligible Maryland and in a dogfight with a barely bowl eligible Wisconsin.

Hell, had the scoop and score not been overturned against Penn State, they very well could have lost that one.

I know it was early but don’t even get me started on their game against Indiana.  There is something to be said for going 11-1 and winning despite playing poorly but they don’t pass the eye test.

Washington has struggled since they were gifted a game by Oregon and I expect them to go down Friday.

FSU just isn’t the same though if they pull it out Saturday night they’ll have 3+ weeks to get their QB ready.  They are not one of the best four currently but you cannot leave an undefeated P5 champ out.

The Bama/UGA/Texas phenomenon will be fascinating if Bama wins.  No way the SEC gets left out as they have dominated the sport since the playoff system began.

As a UM fan, Georgia and Oregon scare me the most.  I’d love to get Washington or FSU in the semi.

(Of course I was thrilled with the TCU draw last year and we saw how that turned out.)

    What I expect tonight.

    1.  Georgia

    2.  Michigan

    3.  Washington

    4.  Florida State

    5.  Ohio State

    6.  Oregon

    7.  Texas

    8.  Alabama

Very close. Flip Oregon and Ohio State.

So it's not about the four best teams? I'm confused.

I think those teams have proven it.  Washington would be undefeated beating Oregon twice.  (my doubts about the 2nd time beating them)  That is significant.  They would be in no question.

If FSU runs the table, huge accomplishment.  Absolutely waxed LSU.  Have been in the top 4 all season long until their QB was injured.  I think they have a more than legitimate shot to be Louisville in the conference tournament.  How do you eliminate a team that has run the table?  They've held their ranking all season long.

Texas...for the same reason FB16 listed...they beat Bama at their place...identical record has to go with head to head competition.

Alabama needed to convert a 4th and 31 just for this weekend to mean anything. Alabama is being carried by their name only.

True....against an Auburn team that has not been burning it up this year.  Bama does not pull that off against Michigan, Oregon, Ohio State, Washington, etc.

    IU is an upgrade?

Great question...probably in terms of salary.  Can always negotiate an Allen separation payment with the admin yo-yo's.

Winning your conference championship should count for something, otherwise, why have them? Florida State getting left out because their QB is hurt isn't really justice.

Totally agree.  I wish they would have stopped at 8 team in the playoff.  Conference championship winner for each Power 5 (before one was dissolved over $$) and 3 at large teams.  Would love to see at least one of the 3 at large's from a non-power 5 (4) conference if deserving rankings.  (all else being equal)

This would put more emphasis on conference champions with an automatic berth.

  8. 4 minutes ago, BTF said:

Understood. But if I'm on the committee, I really don't want Florida State, Texas, or Washington in there. Hopefully the weekend turns out in a way the committee isn't faced with tough decisions to appease the masses.

Financially, the committee would love Texas to be in the playoff.  Big time.

If Florida State or Washington wins their conference championship, they deserve to be in the playoff.

  9. Wondering about Chris Creighton at Eastern Michigan?  Before he took the program over, EMU was a doormat in the MAC. Being a former Wabash coach, he may have some ties to the Hoosier State.

Another possibility?? Curt Cignetti has built a super strong program at James Madison, moving them from FCS to FBS.

Michigan has been forced into silence due to an ongoing investigation and they let their play do the talking...if you get offended by waiving you need to be sponsored by Charmin...just like Ryan Day.

Now do adult coaches who tag kids on social media and argue with them...

If you see nothing wrong how a college coach of a major national program acted, it speaks volumes.  Stop trying to justify ridiculous, inmature behavior out of a coach because its your favorite team....

Point to me other college or pro coaches acting this way after a win.  Shake hands, walk off the field and celebrate with your team.  Be a man, not a child.

Don’t sleep on Franklin central they’ve been getting better every year and my golfing bud keeps saying how they would destroy any team in the region

I am not sure they would destroy any team in the region, but FC is absolutely improving.  Jayson West is a heck of a coach.

I say good for Minter.  Dude has been dragged through the mud (with OSU leading the charge by the way) and all of his accomplishments have been marginalized because a $55k “advanced scout” was “whispering in his ear” during games.

    You win…you talk.  You don’t?  You can’t.

    Pretty simple.

Nah....a confident adult man doesn't need to talk when he wins.  The scoreboard does that for him.  He understands he needs to teach his kids much more than X's and O's.  Its understood that his actions mean more than his words and the need to be humble.  Can't imagine Tony Dungy or one from his coaching tree acting in that fashion.

Based on your philosophies, I am thankful you never coached my children.

As an ultimate "homer", you will justify anything if its your team.  Making him the "victim" just like Jimmy.  You are consistent...will give you that.

    State wide:

12.5% of all sectionals won by privates, 16.7% of all regionals won by privates, 33.3% of all semi-states won by privates,, 50% of all state championships won by privates.

Private Schools make up 7% of all football schools.

These numbers would probably be a little higher if the officials in the North Posey/Mater Dei sectional semi-final could count to 12 on the final play.

    Those are sure impressive privates....

First, I never bashed Center Grove’s schedule. They play one of the toughest schedules in the state, along with Ben Davis, Cathedral, etc… My point of contention has been East Central and the ludicrous claim by a few people that they are one of the top 2 teams in the state while playing a soft schedule. Let’s be honest, if EC played Ben Davis, Center Grove, Brownsburg, or Cathedral’s schedule, they would be fortunate to be 10-3, likely 9-4

I didn't take your comments negatively...just seeking to understand and having some good discussion.

I agree with you...a tough schedule takes it toll.  That's why I am not much into transitive property stuff.  Thus my comment about playing a similar opponent at the beginning of the season vs. a season elimination game are not one in the same.

Good, fun discussion!  Congrats on the state championship...one heck of a run!!!

Snider has a shut down D, so I thinking a Snider & CG matchup could go either way. I would take BD and Brownsburg over Snider. That is my rationale, since they don't play each other we will never know. The only common opponent we can look at is Warren Central, and we all know how those games turned out.

Snider played WC opening game of the season..CG played WC as a well known opponent very late in the season. That’s not much to make comparisons.

How does one know if they have a shutdown D, if they don’t play the toughest opponents? CG played a way tougher schedule than Snider.

But hey, fun to be hypothetical.  Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I would put Snider above Chatard & CG. I think Luers is overlooked, should be on list if Indy Lutheran is

Why would you place Snider over CG?  CG and BD played to OT in the semistate...BD kicked a FG near end of regulation to force OT.  Are you saying Snider can play even with BD if you believe they should be ranked over CG?  CG's schedule was stacked full of very quality teams, many of them out of state.  Snider could have matched their record all season long?

Just wanting to understand your rationale.
