Not necessarily, there’s just other very good teams at the top who don’t play in the SEC. I think Oregon is going to kill Washington in their rematch and be one of the 4 teams.

I think there are only two guarantees right now:

-Michigan is in regardless of a loss

    -Winner of Washington/Oregon is in

Georgia is obviously in with a win and Florida State is also in if they go undefeated. I think this is the most likely scenario.

If FSU loses and both Texas and Alabama win, Texas gets in by virtue of beating Alabama earlier this year.

If FSU and Texas both lose and Alabama wins, Alabama is the 4th team bumping Georgia.

If FSU, Texas, and Alabama all lose Ohio State gets in.

I struggle with the scenario that Oregon gets a free pass for losing to Washington in the regular season. Now if they beat them 2nd time around, sounds like it’s automatic that they are in.

The key is to lose early I guess…

Will land on his feet as a DC somewhere if I had to guess.

    Who’s Indiana’s first call?

I’d like to see them get Wazzu’s head coach Jake Dickert.  Bring the Wisconsin boy back to the Midwest.  Perhaps Iowa State’s Matt Campbell

Darius/Shaquille Leonard has been cut by the Colts.

anyone shocked this was done during the season?  I assumed his salary was too high given his current performance....but thought he would at least finish this season.   No takers I guess for a trade given his injury and performance with his current contract.

I would argue that many programs could claim they were this or that away from winning a game. I could write a book on that topic regarding my favorite team. I put Center Grove up there with Ben Davis and Penn. I'm not sure what makes the Trojans better than the Giants and Kingsmen. Over all, in all classes, I think we have to look at the four in a row by Luers and LCC.

CG was close...they did go to 4 state championship games in a row  (2019-2022)....they lost a tight one to Carmel 20-17 in the first one of their run.  (winning the next 3)

I know @Bash Riprock hates numbers but since the turn of the century, there have been 11 Indy vs non-Indy area state finals matchups in the state’s largest class and the average margin of victory is 32.8 points per game.

In fact, you have to go all the way back to 1996 to find a state finals contest in the state’s largest class that has finished with a one possession final score in such a contest.

Crown Point is likely just the next victim.

I hate numbers....not even close.  Obvious you have no clue as to my profession.

People that use numbers without meaning behind the numbers are foolish.

I do agree that BD is heavily favored, but less about history and far more about their talent and coaching of their 2023 squad.

Ah, the classic "the final score was not indicative of how close this game actually was" defense...so predicable.

Once again, not discrediting anything, simply providing context to my stance on a statement with supporting data.  So many on this forum (and in life in general) act and say things based on emotions rather than facts.  We get it...you LOVE Center Grove and will defend them in ANY instance where someone insinuates they don't walk on water.

Also, pretty rich from a guy who follows me around this message board at all hours of the day cherry picking things to get offended by claiming I need to "get a life."  Come on.

Can't get picked last when you are the one doing the picking...😜

you certainly don't like to be challenged do you.  You hate it that there on a few on this forum that gets fed up with your constant "know it all attitude"

You weren't in the stands all those years.  So you don't know.  You have no idea how hard that coaching staff and those kids worked to SUSTAIN an incredible level of performance.  You were NOT there in the stands during the 5A years to see the type of teams like Columbus East, Columbus North, Bloomington South, Franklin Central, etc. brought in with outstanding coaches.  Most people that have competed on an athletic field think twice before diminishing a team's long period of success and even worse, diminish and insult the programs said team competed against.  Most that compete learn to respect their opponents.  But you are an "expert" because you can look at scores and drawn steadfast conclusions.  You've invested nothing, sit a million miles away, and diminish accomplishments that other posters on this forum acknowledge, because at the end of the day, you simply can't stop your fingers from pecking away.  As JMV would say, "pure jacka$$ery".

And yes, any adult that diminishes what kids accomplish and programs they compete against absolutely does need to "get a life".

Let me first apologize to those reading this thread as well as anyone not named @Bash Riprock associated with the CG program as it’s taking a turn sideways.  Some folks view things as black and white and it is a character flaw they just cannot overcome.  Those who have followed my posts on this forum since I joined know that I have the utmost respect for Eric Moore and the CG program and it is well documented if you care to look it up.  The following data is not a dismissal of any of their accomplishments nor an attempt to throw shade at the Trojans, rather a factual summary of the claim made that caused outrage and sent one forum member to the emergency room with a coronary…again.  The Temp has a dedication to accuracy.

The Temp claimed that CG’s sectional dominance was impressive but had the NERVE to not bow down and claim it was the most fascinating or impressive streak known to mankind which triggered another forum member.

Since 2008, (omitting 2009 where CG was defeated in the sectional round), the Trojans won their 33 sectional contests by an average score of 42-10 (32 points).  That’s MORE than a 4 TD margin of victory for you math majors scoring at home.

They defeated 10 different opponents in this time frame and only TWO (Franklin whom they played once (21 point margin of victory) and Franklin Central (23.7 point margin of victory) were able to keep the margin under four TDs.

In fact, of the 33 contests played, an overwhelming 22 of them (67%) were won by 28 or more points.

So, how good were these stalwarts the Trojans were defeating regularly you ask?  Heading into the contests against CG, their sectional opponents were an average of 6-4 with Bartholomew County schools Columbus East and Columbus North accounting for 11 of the 21 contests actually played against a team with a winning record at the time of kickoff.

Of course I took advantage of this fabulous Harrell website you referenced (kudos to John) and factored in the strength of schedule of East and North and it falls in the mid 60s over this time period, thus inflating the record of those two schools as they were defeating schools from the mighty Hoosier Hills conference and Conference Indiana.

A summary of the data collected can be found below and certainly some sort of defensive rebuttal will be made in an attempt to discredit the numbers staring folks directly in the face.

For what it’s worth, I also do not believe Penn winning the NIC in football nor Gonzaga winning the WCC annually in men’s basketball is the greatest accomplishment known to mankind as when you have better players, better coaching, better facilities, etc you should expect to defeat lesser teams.

I’d finally like to apologize to Eric Moore as I guess my years of touting your accomplishments and anointing you as one of the four best coaches in Indiana high school history just simply isn’t good enough for some.  Any statement made to the contrary (Carson Steele’s lack of track speed, Russ Yeast beating Steele in a foot race or CG’s population exploding in the 90s) simply proves that I hate the Trojans and do not bow at the throne as I should.

CG is the greatest football program worldwide and I am deeply sorry that I insinuated otherwise.  I hope we can move past my transgressions and I can truly be forgiven by the message board gods who hang on my every word.

Sure they had some easy victories in sectionals.  You don't think schools like WC, BD, Carmel and others didn't have them as well?  But there were some very tough games in those sectionals over those same years and a couple of sectionals that CG did not win.  You can print all the picked stats you wish.  I was in those stands over the periods and saw some tough sectional games, including a couple of heartbreakers.

For any program to be built since Coach Moore arrived and to SUSTAIN that type of performance says something.  You can discredit all the opponents they've played all you wish.  Just speaks to your character.

You need a life dude....way too much time on your hands and give over the "kid always pick last syndrome".  Move on.

This is like folks giving Penn credit for winning XX number of consecutive conference titles in a row…they are beating the teams that they should and it’s not their fault the teams in their conference suck annually.

See what I did there @GOLDRUSH1985?

Triggering my two biggest fans in the same post….

You simply can’t help yourself, can you?

You recently posted correctly on another thread CG’s difficulty last year getting past FC in the sectional on the way to their third straight 6A title. Some of us actually were in the stands watching our kids play during this 18 year window and we know CG wasn’t lighting every team up by 4 TD’s during those sectionals, especially during many of the 5A years. We watched a number of outstanding games.

John Harrell provides a great archive of historical results. Check it out before going wild on your keyboard.

Don’t forget powerhouses TH South, Jeffersonville, and New Albany.

Too lazy to do the research but I’m betting in the 16 years mentioned, they’ve won sectional contests by a 4+ TD margin per contest.

Stop looking for reasons to get offended.  I’m more complimentary of Eric Moore than anyone on this forum.

Not offended. Just dislike your poor takes. No need to discredit any high school or the kids on it. You play the teams your scheduled to play.

Eh, not as much when you look at their path…two gimmes to start the tournament annually.

Sigh…not only does that comment slap schools like Columbus North and Franklin Central in the face, but over that span, pulls in schools to include both Bloomington South and North, Columbus East, Martinsville, etc.  Not to mention some real tough regional battles.

Eric Moore built a dynasty from a school that prior to him had won one sectional championship. You don’t get to trash that level of accomplishment with an ounce of credibility.

Think a little before you spew.

At one point it seemed like Ben Davis had control of the game. Then Center Grove stormed back with a fury. That 4th qtr and Overtime was some very enjoyable football to watch. Ben Davis  like they have against Brownsburg and Cathedral made the plays when needed.

It did almost end in disaster when Ben Davis QB1 fumbled the ball, a BD player was Johnny on the spot (3 times) as that football was like a greased pig. Both teams left it all on the field. We will have a new State Champion for the first time in 3 years.

When CG took the lead 34-31, I thought there were 2 critical plays in the last BD drive in regulation.  The 48 yd pass to Zachary was incredible.  QB gets off a tremendous throw just as he was being clobbered by a CG lineman...no way he saw his pass caught.  Zachary had been held to one pass completion all game long.  Zachary was actually covered very tight by CG defensive back. But the ball was thrown to where only Zachary could pull it down and he makes an outstanding catch.....making it first and goal on the 6 yd line.  CG held firm...and the fumble by the BD QB....and it squirted through various hands.  If CG recovers, game over and they are moving on to their 5th state title game in a row.  But lady luck was with the Giants...they recover, eventually kick FG and history in OT. Amazing how the little things that get almost no print in the paper can play a major role in determining the victor.

2 outstanding teams....both played their butts off and would not back down.  Congrats to the Giants!!  Go get the title!!

Wasn’t calling YOU out.  You are fair and balanced…I actually LOVE my views challenged.  I enjoy the healthy debate…as long as my opponent has done their homework.

I get it...and many don't do their homework.  I just didn't sense that anyone was trying to belittle EC and their accomplishments.  EC has built one heck of a program.  I was thrilled they took it to Moeller...representing Indiana HS football.

  13. 1 hour ago, temptation said:

Nah, belittling any program not within 25 miles of Indianapolis is the popular thing to do.

Belittling?  Healthy debate when it comes to what teams are in the top 5 in the state is a good thing on a forum designed for discussion.  While I notice disagreement, I have not read where any program has been "belittled".

I sense you really love to express your views, but hate to have them challenged.  You must be a peach at family dinners...
