Carson Steele Gets Some Airtime on ESPN with SVP
Bash Riprock replied to Bash Riprock's topic in The Next Level
interesting insight....also, didn't Spegal go to IU the season prior as a PWO? Maybe IU thought they had similar backs in terms of running style. Steele's injury did come at a tough time for him in the recruiting process. I am not sure why Purdue didn't bite. (injury concerns?) But hey, looks like it has worked out well in the long run for the War Horse. -

Always 2 sides to every story.....The Tuohy's sold their fast food business for a super large chunk of money....and they are trying to scam Oher? This is an interesting read........I want to hope they are legit people, but who knows anymore. https://nypost.com/2023/08/14/the-blind-side-family-responds-to-michael-ohers-lawsuit-against-them/ Oher was married Nov 2022 and the Tuohy's were not invited. Potential for Michael being influenced? -
Harbaugh’s Hands Caught in Cookie Jar
Bash Riprock replied to Bash Riprock's topic in The Next Level
Guessing you aren't much different than the majority of Michigan fans. You know that the old " 2 wrongs don't equal a right" saying. No one is justifying Tennessee (other than Vols fans perhaps) and no one is ever saying the NCAA is consistent. NCAA has a bad record when it comes to consistency and prioritization. (my opinion) But as stated on this forum before, coaches lying and/or perceived interfering with an investigation does not seem to end well for the coach. From SI's Pat Forde over the weekend..... https://www.si.com/.amp/college/2023/08/13/ncaa-issues-rare-statement-regarding-ongoing-jim-harbaugh-case -

Your comprehension on this issue seems a "tad jaded". The quote from the NCAA specifically trashed your hamburger theory. Young man? Hardly -
Harbaugh’s Hands Caught in Cookie Jar
Bash Riprock replied to Bash Riprock's topic in The Next Level
there is no apology coming....penalties merely delayed. Shame his memory is suffering. Hope he's ok. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/jim-harbaugh-now-expected-to-coach-entire-2023-season-as-ncaa-investigation-into-michigan-continues/ Needing only the approval of the NCAA's Committee on Infractions, the deal "is now off," according to Yahoo Sports. The program's NCAA case will continue through the disciplinary system. According to Sports Illustrated, the Committee on Infractions rejected the negotiated resolution. "The Michigan infractions case is related to impermissible and off-campus recruiting during the COVID-19 dead period and impermissible coaching activities -- not a cheeseburger," the NCAA said in a statement, referencing Harbaugh's alleged hamburger purchase for a recruit. Harbaugh is accused of providing false or misleading information to the NCAA during an investigation into alleged recruiting violations made in 2021 during an extended recruiting dead period stemming from COVID-19. The NCAA alleges Harbaugh lied to investigators during an initial meeting about the violations. Dishonesty to investigators is a separate Level I violation in the NCAA's rulebook. It appeared as if the parties were headed towards a resolution in the matter earlier this year; however, while those negotiations were ongoing, Harbaugh refused to sign a document admitting that he was dishonest during that first meeting. The Wolverines coach has consistently maintained that he was not purposefully dishonest and claims he did not remember the events that led to the recruiting violations. Harbaugh's penalty will almost assuredly be harsher than what it would have been if the NCAA believed he cooperated from the onset as all four violations were of the Level II variety. -
I had the same exact question...hope he comes out with a chip on his shoulder!!

247 2 Star recruit, 4 star transfer. He did get offers from Ball State, Indiana State and Southern Illinois...all D1 programs. (see his 247 prospect data in the link below) But to your point, was not widely recruited and passed by both in-state IU and Purdue. (brilliant) https://247sports.com/player/carson-steele-46048570/ Now 247 refers to him as a stud..... -
Looks like St. Edwards has some beasts on the defensive side of the ball. Maybe they should rest him for game 1.....

You are right...caused me to take a second look...UNC, Duke, GA Tech, Pitt, Virginia, and Miami. How about a Miami to Seattle flight for a mid week sporting event?? Conversley, the SEC has the following schools as members: Florida, Texas, Mizzou, and Texas A&M....in which the last 3 are all fairly recent adds to the conference. Says a little about priorities...my guess is AAU membership wasn't a primary consideration...it one at all.
-
While we know this expansion is all about TV/dollars, it does look like the Big 10 is only adding schools that have the Association of American Universities (AAU membership). USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington all have this membership in this organization made up of 66 American Universities. According to ESPN's Adam Rittenberg, the Big 10 will only add schools with this membership given the focus on academics. The only school in the Big 10 not a member is Nebraska, as they were expelled after joining the Big 10. https://www.si.com/college/northwestern/football/what-the-association-of-american-universities-has-to-do-with-big-ten-expansion Current members of the AAU https://www.aau.edu/who-we-are/our-members I guess we shall see if this is a priority in the future. Notre Dame, Stanford, Cal and North Carolina are members.....sorry Florida State.

BTW, not disagreeing with you....hey, on the bright side, perhaps kids can sign up to some airline frequent flyer programs and rack up some miles.....
-
So much for the life of the "student" athlete. Just doesn't seem the right thing to do to send the women's field hockey team on a road trip...nor cost saavy.
-
I agree...kinda. If its about TV markets as well, not sure about Oregon and the Eugene area. Seattle absolutely...I get the connection to Nike. At the end of the day, I am not sure how this is really making the college game better. Hopefully, smaller non-revenue sports don't get shutdown and they identify regional opportunities. I don't believe for one second tennis, wrestling, soccer, volleyball, etc. teams are traveling across the country and playing games/matches in the middle of the week.

Guardian Caps — Do They Work?
Bash Riprock replied to Bobref's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Great explanation IO. What you are saying is demonstrated in this video of Simon Pagenaud and his terrible wreck at Mid Ohio a few weeks ago. I believe almost 7 rolls in this crash. Fantastic head protection and you don't really see him strike his head a ton inside the cockpit. Yet his concussion was so severe, weeks later the Indycar doctors have still not medically released him because of continued symptoms. Incredible video....... -
Who are the top 10 programs
Bash Riprock replied to Trojanmp52's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I remember being a kid, not asking my parents, and getting the 13 Columbia House 8-tracks for a penny. Not the smartest move when I realized I had to buy 8 more and quickly mail in the monthly notice to prevent the 8 track of the month being sent to me. Yep, I had to work that one off for my Dad.....not easy living on a small farm..... But one of those 13, 8-tracks was Steve Miller Band Fly Like and Eagle...dang well worth the trouble...... -

That is a shame about Warren not being in the IEFA this year. They have a long history of taking the best of their in-house rec league and have them competing in the IEFA. I didn't know this...thanks for sharing Coach Grover!! -
Harbaugh’s Hands Caught in Cookie Jar
Bash Riprock replied to Bash Riprock's topic in The Next Level
The last time I will restate my opinion. BTW, I am not an anti-Harbaugh guy. We agree on the inconsistency of the NCAA. It looks like the original issues were fairly minor. I put that on the NCAA. What makes zero sense is Harbaugh lying and misleading an investigation. In this case for things relatively minor. That is absolutely an integrity issue and sends a very bad message to the organization he leads. A fundamental value that I am sure he has espoused time and time again as a coach is integrity. Yet, when he has the chance to demonstrate this value, he failed. Harbaugh owns that...pure and simple and to attempt to sweep that under the rug by continuing to go back and talk about the NCAA. The NCAA owns their piece of this mess and Harbaugh owns his. Additionally, no matter the seriousness of the rule break, Harbaugh broke rules. Its not about, "well the other guy broke a bigger rule"....its about controlling what you can control and that is one's own behavior and choices. As we have all told our children, 2 wrongs don't make a right" IU was clobbered year ago for Kelvin Sampson's misuse of his phone...I am pretty sure no longer an NCAA rule. They owned it and took the hit. Had Jim just done this, this would have been in the rear view mirror with a wrist slap. Jim made it much worse. BTW, Jim is getting some negative press himself.....both are receiving some negative press.
