  1. I guess....but what does it have to do with sport in her case?? Does she need sports to earn her revenue?
  2. The promotion/relegation thing is interesting. It works in english soccer for example because of a desire by players to be in the top league, but let's face it...its driven by $$. The higher the league for a team, the more $$ alotted to them. That in turn gives them better players, facilities, etc. That doesn't play out with Indiana high school sports....more funds won't be alotted for an upper league (no motivation there) and I contend many teams would be more than content to "play down" if that increases their odds for trophies. They certainly won't get less funding for "staying down". Don't really see promotion/relegation apples to apples for professional vs. amatuer (in this case high school) sports.
  3. both IN Fan and your thoughts are very interesting and have merit. Whiteland also has to be getting close to 6A and they are growing rapidly.
  4. This is an example of a GREAT coach....he is teaching his team way more than the game of hoops. This is something they will carry with them always.....
  5. thanks....sounds like we had different experiences as it was more than comradery for my children and myself. I guess my expectation is that good coaches should teach you more than the game, as most people will stop playing the game when high school ends, so what does a person really take with them to apply to life? I don't think it matters if the entity is a private or public, as I think we'd all agree that much of education occurs outside of the classroom. Maybe call it a tangible benefit, such as icing on a cake.
  6. I don't remember Bob indicating it was a core mission..... I am not trying to be negative or argumentative in any way...just seeking to better understand what is behind your statement. Question, did you or your children participate in high school athletics? If so, did you not see that athletics teaches an individual and group of people way more than just the game itself?
  7. I believe I read they finished the season last year ranked #37 MaxPreps
  8. Looks like CG added Oakland HS out of Tennessee in place of Carmel for week 2.
  9. There are only so many 6A schools in the state. I am sure the AD has reached out to them all along with many 5A schools. From what I have learned, not been an issue scheduling contests for CG, other than football.
  10. Some seem to believe they are ready to make a run......my guess AR believes they are contenders. https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl-betting-odds-the-jets-are-the-one-super-bowl-future-bet-worth-making-now-145709982.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAI5_0qFL4FfGbAVg7ewEGFf73CcQ9C8iWUwgJNSnpGkSdEfZbUSWvjfa8wa1WGJgTWDRefWgOuzdYaJqpNZBW7vELaQwEkITbs_VnZLk-NpIo1-jd41yKskMyxAnAKhKZfAR-e1OmM_ajxBqLA0nP_eLfu1BKtt8Jk7y4pJZImpE https://theathletic.com/4308345/2023/03/14/new-york-jets-aaron-rodgers-odds/ https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/bettors-are-backing-bears-lions-jets-to-win-the-super-bowl https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/super-bowl-2024-odds-picks-jets-and-vikings-among-top-five-value-plays-for-super-bowl-lviii/ https://www.sportsbookreview.com/picks/nfl/super-bowl-odds/
  11. No to AR.....they have more holes than a QB and he knows the Colts are not SB ready. He has a very short window and he's saying he's going to the Jets. My guess is that they are freeing up $$ for the draft, trades or perhaps Lamar.
  12. I think Austin Power's is excited about BD's decision hiring Coach Mann.....
  13. A different source https://highschoolfootballamerica.com/ben-davis-hires-longtime-indiana-high-school-football-assistant-coach-as-new-head-coach/
  14. Any updates from this Weds tweet from the Indy Star's Kyle Neddenriep?? Didn't realize IHSAA has inserted themselves into this discussion/issue.
  15. Somebody's angry.....(sorry, stole that line from you) So I obviously have no family or friends. Nah...that's not true. I am blessed with great family and friends. Perhaps, I just don't feel like I have an obligation to "educate them" with my own personal views. Big difference. Do you think anyone is truly listening to you?? On GID? You don't find it a tad interesting that you feel obligated to share personal views, when you aren't required or even asked to donate a red cent or an second of your time for an investment?? Yet, you have "friends" that value your opinions anyway? It may be worth some time to self-reflect and seek some feedback to ensure your views are indeed valued.
  16. Thank you for your honesty.... Your friends are indeed fortunate to have you doing their thinking for them. Shame they must lack the ability to educate themselves and draw their own conclusions
  17. Not sure how you jump to extremes about trusting govt. People can desire city improvements being sometimes led by local governments without "blindly trusting government". Hard to have good dialogue with extreme comments and stereotyping. Help me again to understand on this proposed cityof Indianapolis project how YOUR tax dollars are being spent......
  18. I do actually really like this vision!!!
  19. I question this as well....but I truly have no idea of minor league soccer demand. I hope the team and the city have done their market research. I can't help thinking if cities can support MLS teams such as Columbus, KC, Cincy, Austin, StL, Charlotte, Salt Lake, etc, why can't Indy support minor league soccer? But, although I enjoy the EPL (Go Spurs)and have attended matches in Brazil and Europe, I've never felt the desire to check out an Eleven match. But guessing I am not part of the demographic they are targeting. I get over the hump with this investment given all that is included. Removing the old Diamond Chain factory from downtown, completing needed environmental remediation, making the riverfront more desirable, adding much needed hotel space, restaurants to that area of downtown, more residential living space, etc. My guess is that this stadium can and will be used for other purposes than just soccer. I am not sure of the need for more office space....But its the total package and utilizing an area of downtown that is frankly an eyesore that makes me feel more positive about the investment. If it were soccer alone, I would probably lean your way.
  20. Indy has become a major convention city...but the city is short on hotel space. We have an amazing football stadium, with few restaurants around it. But we do have an old factory taking up primo space on the White River that could and should be used for something more beneficial than an eyesore. You call it a Trojan Horse....I call it moving forward investing in a city that needs it. I chuckle when people living outside of the Indy metro area complain about local government involvment and higher taxes. Doesn't cost you or Muda a darn thing. Don't come here if you are worried about a few more cents added on to your meal. My guess is that you don't come here much anyhow, so not sure why it matters one bit if the city is working to better itself.
  21. I have read a number of studies that contradict each other. I notice you always show you bias by presenting one view. If you open your mind, you may learn even more....bias is a barrier BTW, it does matter. Real estate (both residential and commercial) hotels, restaurants, etc investments in a complex. etc absolutely provide a return. Cleaning up a dilapidated area within a downtown area, to include environmental remediation making an area useful does matter. You have no idea regarding the long term revenue generation not associated with the stadium. I am not saying all sports-related investments lead to a positive return. All I am saying this investment is much larger than the sports side of the complex and it would need some study. Without diving into the return on such investment, words are only an opinion.
  22. You failed to answer his question. Do you know who is funding? Is it county residents? Donut county residents? Tourism? Combination? Pretty easy to find other articles and economic studies that contradict your reference. My guess is with the differing opinions, there is no consensus. You do realize its much more than a stadium correct? Hotel space, office space, residential space, restaurants, etc. That area is an old factory that sits on the river and I am guessing the cost includes environmental remediation. That area of the city downtown needs investment. Glad they are doing something.
