Southridge vs Jasper - One Last Ride
tango replied to RoadRunner's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Great article. -
Coach Jennings is at Whiting, who is MD's opponent....
-
There is also room to tailgate at Reitz Bowl. We always set up in the tiered lots above the end zone closer to the Ohio River. I was at the MD game last Saturday and there was a lot of open space in those lots.
-
Have a safe drive and good luck. The Bowl is a cool place to play.

Well, in our game Friday night, when the score was 35-0 at the half and our opponent had 3 turn-overs, 1 first down (on the first play of the game), and less than 60 yards of total offense, they didn't look too demoralized when their varsity scored 3 TDs in the 4th Q against our back up JV kids, which is essentially freshman and sophomores. In fact, their coach burned time-outs to stop the clock and they celebrated wildly when they scored each TD. While I disagree entirely with that approach, they certainly were trying to build some confidence going into Wk. 2.

Very good question. Last year their returning starting QB decided to play golf instead of football, which seems somewhat odd. That's the only notable case I can remember.

Southridge vs Jasper - One Last Ride

I expect you guys to win the last installment. Jasper is down somewhat this year. -
My understanding is 1-2 players were not allowed to participate. So the Bears were not at full strength.
-
I don’t mind it, but I think the team being shown mercy needs to lose its time outs so they can’t stop the clock.
-
That regional game might be in the Top 10 of craziest IN HS football games.
-
Maybe should have saved a few of them for 2 weeks later...
-
Ok! That's enough. It was a critical 8 yd. pass play with 40.7 seconds left in the season to cut the deficit to 28 points. We only had one match-up with the legendary coach. November 8, 1985. Sectional 24 Championship.

Now, now.... It sure is good to have everyone back together again in the GID house!!
-
It really stinks that the IHSAA Success Factor snatched this rivalry away from us.... The two complete each other.

I'm sure he has beefed up from last year, but I agree to a certain extent. He is not a very mobile QB. I'm sure that with a year under his belt things have slowed down for him. On the flip side, the path to LOS in 3A South is very different now than in previous years. My feeling is that whoever comes out of Sectional 32 has to be the favorite to make it to LOS, but overall I think West Lafayette has to be the favorite to win again. They have some studs returning. -
How so? I believe there is a "No Vacancy" sign out now. I would hate 2 divisions in football.
-
Had two good downfield blocks by the QB on one of those long runs... LOL
-
Yes. Starting next year the SIAC will have no non-conference games. As much of a challenge as it was (for us Wk. 2), I'll miss not seeing someone different every few years. Ironically, for a while we were playing Jasper and Vincennes Lincoln in non-conference.
-
Here's the big question... Many felt last year it was addition by subtraction at Central.... Will this year be subtraction by addition? Central was much more disciplined last year than the previous umpteen years. Lots of talk about the new coach also demanding discipline. Time will tell.... It has always been tough to find non-conference opponents for teams down here in SW IND. It's the main reason the SIAC added Jasper and Vincennes starting in 2020.
-
Yep, unless they're flying.... 8/31 in Evansville at 4pm local time.

Your 3A state game would actually be the Sectional 28 championship game..... LOL #IHSAA -
No question about that. And obviously Heritage Hills. Brownstown is such a tough opponent to prepare for when you don't see that stuff at any time during the season. My main point was that the 3A South landscape looks a little different than in recent years. The only 2 teams in the year-end 3A Top 10 from Sagarin who remain in the South are GS and HH. Having Chatard, Brebeuf and Guerin all go to the North is what in golf would be described as a fortuitous bounce... I'm sure they would. It's a shame the match-up won't happen at least for a couple of years. It's grown into a great rivalry, mainly because both schools have pretty vocal and confident fan bases. LOL.
-
It certainly appears that the combination of 3A realignment and success factor bump of Memorial over the next 2 years puts GS in a nice spot. I'm looking forward to the preview of the possible semi-state match-up with Princeton on 9/20.
-
Can only speak to what I've seen in our scrimmage. I don't see Castle beating BHSS on the road. I'll take Jasper and the points. That game last year was the 2nd closest margin of victory we had. We have some new faces at key positions. Jasper is tough place to cut your teeth... Massey must be sniffing glue...

Which would tend to prove my point about the double-standard. Is he from Iceland? LOL But a kid saying "I want to play for "school x" or "Coach Y" isn't undue influence, right?
