  1. I focused on teachers because the post I initially replied to did. I think there is a HUGE misconception here about a few things. One; there has been a LOT of concern among teachers about the plans for starting the year. You are just now hearing about that because it wasn't news back in April or May. The start of the school year and the development of more specific plans are news items now. I don't think comparing mailmen and grocery store workers is quite the same as schools opening. Trends may be down, but the July 4th numbers are starting to show up now. We will see.
  2. You might be right. I use the delivery service, so I don't go into those places. But for Raven to single teachers out as the ones doing that, and refer to just one when providing anecdotal evidence is just disingenuous. A lot of people were upset with schools closing, and now that the time to start a new school year is here, people are worried about the lack of safety considerations. The comment by him had nothing to do with the topic. Sure, most teachers WERE upset; disappointed may be a better word because it was inevitable, with the way the year ended. But going back, I don't think anyone saw the spread going the way it has either. The hope was that we would be seeing a decline in positive cases and a decline in deaths.
  3. The bashing of teachers? Yeah, I do see it as fairly representative of society in general.
  4. So you choose to bash all teachers in the first part of this, and use ONE teacher as an example in the last part......got it.
  5. For the AD; yes. Keep in mind the IndyStar article about that....a number of people at that one site got it.
  6. I am sure he is right. That said Washington Township is in a unique spot. Losing the North Central HS AD to the virus was a hard hit for the high school and the community; especially considering it is highly likely he got the virus while at work. My guess is that there are other significant cases in the district that helped drive this decision. But it goes to a point I made earlier; anyone can cite stats all they want; the thinking changes completely when one of your own school people gets it and dies from it. Stats do not matter to the North Central coaches, athletes, teachers, family and friends of Paul Loggan.
  7. Comparing numbers in Germany to the US is an apples to oranges comparison. Germany took measures that were much more stringent than any State in the US. Having friends who live and teach in Germany, they do have class size limits of 15 students in a class now. That will rarely happen anywhere in the US; let alone Indiana. They also only go 2-3 days a week in groups. "The study tested the blood of around 1,500 children aged between 14 and 18" Germany's system is significantly different than the US as well. By the age of 14, many kids in Germany start apprenticeships to learn a trade. The ones in school by that age are college bound. Also, to counter the claim that kids may not spread it: https://www.macon.com/news/coronavirus/article244158667.html?fbclid=IwAR3FEyamzZAQy_Re33VSOc1_0GCl13bX-BxXPeSuQUtWOMfWzAe8PtCYhBY
  8. The guideline better be explicitly clear and written, or you will lose in court.
  9. I did not catch that. I have a couple friends coaching there, and am curious to hear what they have been told. If they have just suspended the season, and the IHSAA does not alter the season schedule at all for the state, keep in mind the 10 practice days rule comes into play for a team hoping to restart a season. That is two games missed beyond whatever else they missed....if it gets to that point. Some would contend that Washington Township did take a stand.
  10. I am certain athletics are suspended, but that is not mentioned in the IndyStar article. Was that posted on a district site?
  11. I believe I saw that something is coming Wednesday from the IHSAA. I may be wrong, but it is really rare that I am on this message board. 🤣 just kidding. I saw @Gipper’s post and had to throw that in there.
  12. I tried sharing a link, but it did not work. I will attach others as well. But they are hilarious.
  13. In a perfect world, sure; but you and I both know it is a reality. I made the school reference too though; meaning if a kid gets it while just going to school; gets sick and passes, the responsibility will fall on the school.
  14. It's a disingenuous question to ask if mourning how someone dies is an either/or proposition. All of them are sad stories, but to draw on them for this particular conversation is an apples and oranges comparison. Car accidents, swimming accidents, and gun violence are not contagious viruses that have caused a world wide pandemic. I would add that the responsibility in the situations you mentioned does not fall on a school or coach; where it definitely will for covid.
  15. I don't disagree.....but again, none of those numbers matter for the school or community for a kid that does lose his/her life from having it. In a lawsuit happy society, schools are really forced to overreact in a situation like this rather than just keep going no matter the consequences.

Thanks, and I agree. I tell my students that same message, we all have to do things in life we don't want to. That said, it just does not seem to be be consistent with what he told us about his Costco experience.

I do too....it may even become a DOE guideline.
  18. When it comes to high schools, and school in general, I don’t think just having a positive test is the core issue. Even though someone who is asymptomatic, there is still that chance, no matter how small, of spreading it. The spread is the real concern. Kids go to work, and go home as well as attend work outs. Who is in the home? Neighborhood? The risk of spreading it from any one individual is still high. That said, the real x factor in my opinion is death rates. People from ages 18-20 or so are the group that is seeing the largest spike in positive tests. Even if we can see that most are unaffected, that won’t matter in the least bit to the school or community where that one kid who died from it lives.
  19. I think this will be the force behind Notre Dame joining a conference as well.
