Praying for the young man; he has shown a lot of grit and determination throughout his career. It is sad to see this happen to him.

Not sure....I do think the impact of being able to subtract students in that population would be significant. It may not effect us to that extent with football, but for this classification, we are the smallest 4A school in the 4 class sports (not counting teams that are up for the success factor). In the bigger picture, while subtracting those numbers may not impact us that much, there are schools it could make a difference in classification. There have been times where if we look at just our numbers minus that population, we very well could have been in 3A. I would even be interested in exploring taking this a step further. The DOE keeps these stats for each school; so it would not be much of a stretch to say for football, how many students in a school are in a pool of potential athletes. So, look not just at the special needs population I mentioned, but at the beginning of the year, look at how many students are even academically eligible to participate.

Ok...thanks for clarifying that....I was aware of the unified sports that had started up......I was thinking that you were suggesting the IHSAA had rules in place now so a school could exclude kids for classification purposes in their enrollment numbers.

Can you point to those rules you are referring to? As long as I have been here; 13 years now, the IHSAA enrollment has matched our DOE/ADM enrollment total.

Good topic...I do think the schools and teams, along with the IHSAA deserve credit. I was hopeful, yet not very optimistic we would get through this. And I admit I have the same feelings about basketball. I am hopeful but skeptical. As far as the comments critical of the quarantines and getting kids back in school....I will agree there could be some easy changes to how quarantines were handled; have a kid stay out a few days; if they test negative after that time, they can return. As far as getting the kids back; every educator understands completely that the best situation for kids is to be in school. But, that is only part of the equation. Our district has a number of teachers out from positive tests. The inability to find enough subs to cover those teachers was a driving force behind our being 100% virtual through this week. Back to the topic, congrats to all involved for getting through the full season.

I don't think that is his point.....As an example, we have about 10% of our population that are physically and/or mentally incapable of participating in football. So the REAL difference is not necessarily who is in the building for non public schools, it's more about who is not. With that population being minimal or non existent in those schools, they are classified among schools with the same total number of students, but a smaller pool of them to draw from for a sport like football.

I will be curious to see where IU is ranked after this one. If they drop, it might be to something like 12. What will be more interesting, because of what the defense gave up, is if OSU holds on to number 3.

A game full of what ifs.....cannot have the drops, turnovers and penalties they did and expect to beat Ohio State. That said, I am not really disappointed. They competed in the 2nd half on both sides of the ball.

While it is obvious how much better OSU is than IU, IU is killing themselves with mistakes; especially turnovers. Defense has made some great plays, and I think Fields sees his stock drop in the Heisman race. IU NEEDED to score before the half, but give up a long drive instead. And OSU gets the ball first in the 2nd half. I hate to think this really turns into a route.

That counter for a TD late in the half was a thing of beauty.

Just read it...wow. I was not aware of the details behind Chapman, but knew he had issues. I agree with her 1000000000% about Russell though. I was livid when they stuck with him. Oddly enough, he had some player issues in Boston as well, right? Curt Schilling comes to mind...with the red marker on his sock??? There are interesting stories about the Ricketts themselves. Word is they have little to no cash, and the team may pay for years....losing top talent because they cannot really afford to pay them. How Ricketts acquired the team is even fishy. But I do love the core of the current team. people say blow it up, but the fact is they hit a slump at a bad time. Sure, they need help, but they cannot really afford it.

I agree...was surprised to actually see it happen. He does not seem to stay in one spot long....similar pattern played out in Boston.

Why? It worked for the Hawks to have a GM that crossed over from another sport. :) He was better than Bowman, that is for damn sure. And as a Cubs fan, I will be eternally grateful to Theo for being a key part of bringing us one of the BEST moments in sports we will ever experience as fans.

One thing that came to mind that impressed me with the defense was the number of passes broken up by the defensive backs for the Irish.

Give credit to BC; they came to win, and it looked good early on. This was a sloppy game for the Irish, in all phases of the game. Missed tackles, big penalties and turnovers need to be cleaned up. I like seeing the passing game to the backs out of the back field, and the short throws to their tight ends. They did not seem to be going deep as much as they did against Clemson. Book being a bigger part of the run game was big as well.

The question those programs have to ask is who replaces them? Especially for Michigan. Is there a big name, successful coach looking to move to the next level? Penn State is in a similar boat. Minnesota has not had much success over the years, so no need for a big time hire. Of the 3, I think Fleck is the safest one. But he and Franklin are experiencing a bad year for the first time. I don't think Harbaugh is safe. Maybe if they beat OSU????

Penix throws for 248 yards in the first half....wow. Impressive first half by the Hoosiers; but even after MSU beat Michigan, I did not think they were a good team. Would like to see similar numbers in the second half.

Thomas' reputation partly comes from a couple of things.......first, being part of the bad boys of Detroit hurt. Next, there is the walking off the court after the Bulls beat them without shaking hands. But what really hurt Isiah's image was his off court issues; especially with regard to female employees of his. I am sure MJ had his off court issues, but he seemed to do a better job keeping a lid on things; or maybe he did a better job of controlling himself??? I say this as having never been a fan of MJ. As an IU huy as well, I did love Isiah, but HATED the Pistons.

I think Lawrence is more of a threat in the run game; something we did not see DJ do last night. There were several times, ND had left an escape lane with just one step up by the QB with a lot of green in front of him.

Nice comeback win. Loved the defensive pressure in OT.

This Clemson game is extremely frustrating to watch. I do not get the constant chances deep. How many times has Book completed one? Get first downs and keep the chains and clock moving. Also, at the end of the first half, Book was a factor in called run plays. What happened to those? The play that got them the big lead early has disappeared.
