  1. wow https://www.nfl.com/news/bears-trade-lb-roquan-smith-to-ravens-for-draft-picks
  2. Another consideration is the offense could still score even with the penalty, so then the penalty is marked off on the next timed play.
  3. Problem is, if I remember right, a live ball penalty like those 2 keeps the down the same. So, one of those on 1st down and the penalty is half the distance, but still 1st down. The other risk you run is if it appears in anyway to be intentional, there could be additional consequences, like the ejection of a player or even a coach.
  4. I agree.....in fact I think even LaFleur gives him too much leeway. As the head coach, you cannot keep saying week after week we need to give Aaron Jones more carries and then give him fewer. Either he is not calling run plays, or he gives 12 way too much leeway to kill plays and call his own. LaFleur reminds me of a few coaches I have known who were "system guys". They know a system of offense. A system has rules against a 4 man front, a 3 man front, 2 high safeties, or single safety, etc. It does not take into account that a team might have Nick Bosa, or a lockdown corner, or a safety that has the ability to break on a ball like several the Packers have seen. The system says, if we see this, then this play works. And it just does not look like he ever makes any adjustments, just sticks to the system. Rodgers does not have time to throw, but route combos are still deep, and the safety valve is wide right or left when there is no one covering the middle of the field. They rarely stick with what works. Last week, they score a TD with a nice middle screen. No one saw it coming. They did not run it the rest of the game. Against the 9ers, I sat in an end zone. I know 12 saw 2 high safeties, but I am telling you, there were so many times Deguara ran up the hashes and was wide ass open, but did not even get a look. I think they threw one ball to him that whole game.
  5. Fair point. He is not quite the same thrower he used to be. Even the Doubs catch last night was not a great throw. Rodgers has struggled for a few years now with the deep ball. What I found curious last week is the comment he made about too many guys making mistakes, or something along those lines. One thing is certain is he is very intentional with what he says\, and even more so about what he does not say. At no time did he ever say anything like "myself included."
  6. Possibly.....but if that is the case, the players are doing a fantastic job of keeping it quiet. Even from the players who left, Greg Jennings is the only one to have said anything negative about him.
  7. something is off with the team. Again, they show they can run the ball, even against the Bills defense. Maybe Rodgers has too much freedom in changing plays? The defense just looks lost, especially in coverage. But it just seems like something off the field, or in the locker room is a problem. Winning games tends to hide some of that, but now that they are not winning it's noticeable. At this point, looking at the schedule, this team wins maybe 3 more games this season.
  8. I cannot think of the exact wording, but it seems it would fall under something like the spirit of sportmanship or integrity of the game; just like sneaking a receiver onto the field before a snap that the defense does not see. So, that would be a USC on the head coach.
  9. Pyne decides who he is throwing to prior to the snap, and refuses to look at anyone else. he has made some bad decisions today. The run game has been unstoppable, why they spend so little time running as the game goes on is mind boggling. And now Syracue has all the momentum as the 4th quarter starts.
  10. Mack Jones just got yanked in the game against the Bears. Could he be moving soon?
  11. This is really cool. I would like to see video from the game of this. Smoltz is a fantastic color guy
  12. Sorry...should have clarified....from a coach's perspective in the press box.
  13. If there has been nothing that has come out by now, it likely won't; not that there was ever a chance anything would. As far as counting, it is much more difficult to do for defense. At least when watching an offense, there is the eye test. The requirement of 7 on the line helps tremendously. I actually look at who is off the line first. Some lines have such tight splits, it is hard to tell and count fast enough.
  14. LIke I said in the NFL thread last week; the level of play overall is bad. The Bills are the closest to a consistently good team.
  15. I cannot remember word for word, but I think it says your season is done when you are eliminated and you cannot preactice after that. My guess is CP admins and coaches stated that they have notified the IHSAA that they would like to protest the game.....even though there is no actual process for it and told their players to come in and be prepared to practice. I agree the game will not be replayed.
  16. Yes he is Horrible game for Green Bay; stupid penalties and still completely out of sync offensively.
  17. I would doubt it would be replayed on a missed call. It actually says in the by laws that all game decisions are final.
  18. I met Coach Allen when we were at Cathedral and we played Ben Davis. Chatting with him before the game, and running into him over the years, I can also say what you see is what you get. He is likely the guy who can get by on 2 or 3 hours sleep a night and jump out of bed. It has been a few years since we last talked, but I enjoy every chat. I also would have liked to have seen what he and Wilson could have done together for a few years. One thing I would have liked to see continue that Wilson started was the remote 1 day camps with his staff. They came up to Homestead HS and had a great turnout. I had a great chat with Coach Allen then. I know people look at him during a game and roll their eyes, but as others have said,it is 100% authentic. I do agree that as a head coach, he needs to tone it down a few notches. Just like a coach that likes to yell and scream all the time, if wins are not following, it all becomes noise to the players. I also think that even recently, had DeBoer stayed around, we might see a better team. Coaches are frequently going for other jobs from IU. I get why, but it is hard to really build a program with a revolving door like that.
  19. Getting an MBA from IU is a big deal, especially in the time he had to do it. Best of luck Jack.
  20. Seems I am seeing a LOT of posts from friends that cheer for various teams that are talking about ugly wins. It seems there are 2 teams that are playing decent football; Buffalo and Philly. While the Giants and Vikings are 5-1, I don't think they look like dominant teams. There are just 3 teams with 4 wins. The Jets, Cowboys, and Chiefs. Just seems like sloppy play is running rampant this year. Multiple games have been downright ugly; unwatchable even. I don't think I can put my finger on any one thing; but feel there are multiple factors that go into this.
  21. All you Negative Nellies 😄
