  1. But it would be a classic Jerry Jones move. Clock/game management was one issue I had with McCarthy when he was in Green Bay. I am not saying he should or should not be fired. There are other issues with that team. As Bradshaw pointed out in the post game show though, you went 12-5 3 years in a row and have nothing to show for it.
  2. While I felt the Packers would play well, I did not expect this either. With names like Bellichick and Vrabel out there and available, I am guessing this did McCarthy in. Losing in a close, hard fought game, he is likely safe. But being crushed the way they were......no way he survives. I think it also hurts Quinn's chances, or at least causes some hesitation. I too cannot wait for Stephen A's take in the morning.
  3. welp, that died quickly. 😄
  4. 1. The NCAA President has suggested as much as far as a relegation level. It would split DI into separate levels. How many? who knows. But the top tier is suggested to be 32. Conferences are destroyed now any way. I really believe what the B1G and SEC are aiming for is separate pro style leagues, where they can hire their own commissioners and break from the NCAA. 2. That is where the relegation and promotion would factor in. Somewhat similar to the success factor we see in Indiana HS sports. 3. the 12 team playoff alone kills the bowl season. Advertisers and sponsors lost their asses on the bowl games this year with the opt outs. Regardless, mid majors were SOL any way. What I believe we will see is several programs like IU, Purdue, Vanderbilt, etc. more closely resemble mid majors than they do power conference programs. They may be in worse shape honestly now. Many kids who will start at IU going forward will look to those top tier programs after they can show what they can do against college level opponents. AJ Barner comes to mind immediately. And kids that don't start at IU will look to other current mid major programs to transfer to. 4. Absolutely right about NIL. Where there is some benefit....talking to our baseball coach whose sons played at Purdue. They wanted to work/start Summer camps and private lessons, but they could not use their pictures in Purdue uniforms or mention the school at all. They also could not take any money for running their lessons/camps. the NIL deal allows current players to do those kinds of things now. I agree with Komets one one point especially. The current path lasts 5 years before falling apart. Who will be the first school to say....For a fee we will let you use our school name, nickname, mascot, logo, stadium, etc for a piece of the revenue earned?
  5. Yeah, this team and the program just are not worth the energy to comment on any more. I am not sure they recover honestly, as you said in this age of NIL and the portal.
  6. Texting some friends this evening, and the convo is about what will happen to college sports going forward. Saban has been a harsh critic of the NIL money and transfer portal. The future picture may have been a driving force for him to step down. Is the current path sustainable? If it is not sustainable, how long will it last before it falls apart? What are the unintended consequences? How long will the NCAA survive? Does it happen at the expense of the non revenue sports? Anyone here excited about the direction college sports is heading? What is the impact going to be on HS sports? I am not confident at all that this is sustainable. I think what Saban sees with the portal is that coaches will have to recruit every scholarship player every year. I have mentioned before, programs like IU and other non competitive programs in the big conferences will just be conduits for programs that do compete. If a program misses the top 12 in football for a couple years, how difficult does recruiting become? I think the NCAA or some remnant of it can remain to govern D2 and D3 sports and a handful of DI sports like baseball and hockey. I pick those two because the minor league system for both is well developed and many of the athletes playing those sports are really there to get degrees first. I don't see NIL money impacting those sports much at all, even though they do generate some revenue for schools, and their post season playoffs are pretty popular. If it does impact the non revenue sports, and I think it will, at what point does Title IX become a factor? The money generated by football and basketball in the past will now go to NIL money instead of sustaining other programs. My guess is it will quickly fall apart; something like less than 10 years. Maybe some level of nostalgia will remain; teams will maintain (or pay rights fees to keep) the name of the schools on their uniforms and playing in the college stadiums while being independent from the schools themselves. There are already a number of players in college basketball that may be registered for classes this semester, but are not going to be attending. If I remember right, the Kentucky teams that last won titles had the starting 5 not attending 2nd semester classes. Maybe they were not the first to do that, but it was notable since UK went back to back with 2 completely different starting lineups. Other thoughts?
  7. Posted this originally in the wrong season lol
  8. I did not say they had to share everything in common.
  9. Well stated post except for the part I highlighted. When you get to this point in the comparisons, it becomes an apples and oranges thing. What struggling private schools are dealing with is nothing even close to what struggling public schools are dealing with; whether we are talking about on the field or in the classroom.
  10. I had mentioned this about a month ago. Instead of scholarships, have them sign contracts.
  11. Being skeptical of this.....I agree that the Lions f;ed this up; maybe even more so than the official. While we can see the 2 linemen approach the ref, no one knows exactly what they said. It very well could be part of the deception to throw off the defense?
  12. I have enjoyed seeing Penix and DeBoer have some success at Washington so I am rooting for the Huskies
  13. They do get a bit of relief with not having to play both osu and Michigan the next 4 years. It actually pisses me off because IU still plays both of them next year and in 26.
  14. Agreed....except I do think Franklin may find himself on the hot seat soon. While he has been a victim of a similar fate as IU; being stuck in the East division, he was able to win the division/conference in his 3rd year, but has struggled to attain that level of play since. And I am going out on a limb to say PSU fans are little more impatient than IU fans.
  15. I agree Coach….and what you said is why I refuse to listen to sports talk shows with a couple exceptions. Even with my own Packers I can say that because I am an owner lol but after beating the Chiefs, the talk was they looked like a playoff team that no one would want to play. These last two weeks have proven the opposite. My expectations have been low because they are so young, but I do not want to ride the waves from a couple weeks ago.
  16. We are as far away from 1981 as 1939 is. Damn we are old.
  17. Hormones. 😀 But sort of serious….. now that our junior high has been a part of our building for a few years, there are kids I see in jerseys who look like they are 10 years old tops. There are also kids who look like they drive to school and could get by in a bar with a fake ID.
  18. MLF outcoached again. Your RB is averaging 4 yards a carry early in the game and he still abandons it. I really thought he turned a corner with the wins over the Lions and Chiefs, but the last 2 games have been embarrassing. And the defense; guys look lost. So many 3rd down conversions given up. They also give up first downs when the Bucs had 20 plus yards to go more than a couple times. LaFleur's press conferences just show he is in over his head. It's obvious the defense needs a shake up. I was never a big fan of the yelling for Barry to be fired as DC. But two weeks in a row, you have a LB covering slot receivers getting burned.
  19. George McGinnis passed this morning....I loved those ABA Pacers teams, and George was a great one. So many great memories, and I have no doubt those teams could have competed well against the NBA teams. RIP George This was written before he passed and is a great story. https://www.nba.com/pacers/news/his-best-george-mcginnis-was-best?fbclid=IwAR2HaausRgEWauA-r59Jln2wi9vMBS0ImIklI1Vx3R61KwPtrahqznTecQ4
  20. MNF was one of the ugliest and sloppiest games I can remember seeing in a long time. Packers sucked in all 3 phases. This is the team that got them into the 2-5 hole, not the one that won 4 straight. They failed in all 3 phases of the game. Throw in some poorly timed and stupid penalties; it was a bad combo. MLF is right back on my shit list for this one. Pass route concepts make little sense. Defensive failures were brutal. DeVondre Campbell covering a slot receiver on an out and up route? WTF? So frustrating to watch.
  21. Go Navy beat Army!!!
  22. hmmmm. Seems that was brought up before. 🙂 And when I read the article, that was my first thought as well.
  23. Heisman finalists announced...Hard to argue with the list. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/heisman-trophy-finalists-2023-jayden-daniels-michael-penix-jr-bo-nix-marvin-harrison-jr-head-to-new-york/#:~:text=College Football Rankings-,Heisman Trophy finalists 2023%3A Jayden Daniels%2C Michael Penix Jr.,Jr. head to New York&text=Watch Now%3A,college football's most outstanding talents.
  24. Something to consider in support of Florida State Ohio State won the Big Ten Championship game in 2014 with a 3rd string QB; beating Wisconsin. Ohio State was selected to the inaugural playoff even though they started Cardale Jones. They went on to win the Championship with Jones as the QB.
