Hoosier Heritage Should Ask New Pal to Leave

Maybe the conference can implement a Success Factor of some sort. 😉 -
Indiana seems to have the right amount of teams & a relatively small geographic area in order to have ALL-IN high school postseason tournaments in every team sport. States like OH, IL, CA have too many schools. If you change the football tournament so that teams must "qualify" for the postseason tournament, then (in my opinion) it's only fair to do that in every other team sport. There's no way the IHSAA will ever do that. So I will never understand why so many Indiana high school football supporters want to take away something good from Indiana high school football players.

Blind Draw - An Absolute Tragedy
slice60 replied to BTF's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
So you want the entire field seeded? I'm sure that wouldn't cause controversy. Plus, you would have long travel for early round games. I'm sure no one would bitch about that-- both because the road team would have to sit on a bus for 2-3 hours & only their fans diehard would be make the trip (which means lower attendance). ARE ANY OF THESE BRILLIANT IDEAS EVEN ON THE IHSAA RADAR OR IS IT JUST AN ANNUAL GID FORUM WASTE OF TIME??? -
Blind Draw - An Absolute Tragedy
slice60 replied to BTF's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
You're right. I should have said they use Blind Draw in every TEAM sport. Should we start a discussion about not having Wrestlebacks in the IHSAA Tournament? Or the lack of a true Team Wrestling Tournament sanctioned by the IHSAA? I think the IHSAA makes most of their revenue from tournament revenue. So they are hurting themselves. -
Blind Draw - An Absolute Tragedy
slice60 replied to BTF's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
IHSAA will always do Blind Draw. In every sport. And every team will always be included in the postseason tournament. In every sport. If they seeded or decreased the tournament field based on whatever criteria, the exact same people would be bitching about the seeds anyway. END OF DISCUSSION. -
Whenever I go to a sporting event at Center Grove or Carmel, I always notice how poor their facilities have become. Thanks to DT, I now know that the reason that these 2 schools have fallen on hard times is due to poor visiting fans attendance at football games. So sad. (p.s. It's sarcasm, people! They have fantastic facilities thanks to big fan support, corporate sponsors & solid tax bases.)

Back Judge called Block in the Back penalty about 20 yards behind the ball on the hash when a Merrillville player accidentally ran into Valpo player from behind. Not sure if the Valpo guy purposefully slowed down to "draw the charge" but I think the Merrillville guy was just running downfield watching his teammate score & not trying to block at all. If you are a Pirate fan, you think you got screwed. If you a Viking fan, you say it was Offensive PI anyway.

Uh-oh. Sep 20 - Greenfield-Central 67 Shelbyville 0 Sep 27 - New Pal 68 Greenfield-Central 0 Oct 4 - Shelbyville at New Pal Point differentials thru 6 weeks: New Pal 310-54, Shelbyville 7-365 If Shelbyville wins the coin toss, I suggest that they defer to basketball season. Gotta wonder if any HS team before G-C has ever won a conference game by 67 & then lost a conference game by 68 in back-to-back weeks. Who's gonna look that up for us?

Fun Fact: Kicker Jack Knight scored every point in Noblesville's 10-0 victory over FC last year. The Millers kicked off the third quarter to Malieki Parks, who had a decent kick return until the ball was punched out from behind. Kicker Jack Knight picked the ball up at the 35 and sprinted down the far sideline to the end zone for a touchdown. Knight would send the point after kick through the uprights, giving Noblesville a 10-0 lead and what would turn out to be the final score. “I’ve seen guys advance kickoffs before and run them in. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the kicker pick it up and run 30 yards like Bambi down the sideline,” said Roden on Knight’s touchdown on the opening kickoff of the third quarter. “He can run. He might be our fastest player,” continued Justin Roden on the speed of his kicker. *** I predict FC gets the win on Friday 20-7.

Gibson Southern @ Southport

I live 15 minutes away & decided to catch this interesting game between a 3A powerhouse & a 6A program on the upswing. It was a really entertaining game-- big plays & hard hitting by both sides. Southport made a bunch of fantastic big plays in the passing game on critical 3rd & 4th downs which led to their victory. GS absolutely held their own against the big school & showed they have lots of talent too. It was hot...the Cardinals led by 2 scores...I wanted to beat traffic...so I left before the late hit/flags/ejections. Wouldn't have known about any of that if it wasn't for the forum. -
In week 1, Michigan City was up 41-0 on Griffith after 1Q. Griffith coaches asked for a running clock to start the 2nd Qtr. MC agreed reluctantly. Final score 60-7.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct - clock stops which helps the penalized team
slice60 replied to slice60's question in Officiating Forum
Crew didn't ask Team B if they wanted the Game Clock to start on ready for play. Same crew that mistakenly enforced a downfield holding penalty from the line of scrimmage on a 15yd gain apparently because there was a backward lateral on a reverse. (See other thread posted on 9/13.) The lateral occurred well before the holding. Instead of a 10yd penalty walkoff, Team B was pushed back 25 yards. -
Unsportsmanlike Conduct - clock stops which helps the penalized team
slice60 replied to slice60's question in Officiating Forum
Absolutely true. Keep flag in pocket & have a brief 1-on-1 with the young man as the clock hits 0:00 so they he knows not to do that again. Keeps game flowing better too. -
Unsportsmanlike Conduct - clock stops which helps the penalized team
slice60 replied to slice60's question in Officiating Forum
Head Ref started 0:25 Play Clock but did not wind the Game Clock...mistake by him. That explains it. However, if Team A was prepared to snap right away, they could've still run a play even if the Game Clock started up. -
Unsportsmanlike Conduct - clock stops which helps the penalized team
slice60 posted a question in Officiating Forum
This also occurred in Friday's game (Zionsville at FC). Final few seconds of 1st half, Team A has possession, Team A is out of timeouts. Ball carrier is tackled short of the 1st down marker inbounds. Clock is running. Just after the play ends, a flag is thrown & the clock is stopped with 0:02 left-- 15 yd Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty against Team A. Penalty is marked off. Game clock does not start until the ball is snapped. Therefore, Team A was able to run 1 more offensive play which they never would have been able to do without that penalty. Was that situation handled properly? Are there any HS rules with a 10-second runoff or something similar? -
Gibson Southern @ Southport

Whoa. 1st football game? I knew the name from hoops. Amazing! TE #40 Munoz had a helluva game too with 2 TD including at least 3 fantastic catches. Props to GS for their big crowd. I heard the Southport concession stand volunteers say that the GS fans were the NICEST they've ever encountered. And she said they were making 100 burgers for the GS team to enjoy on their bus ride home. Pretty cool. Thanks Bob. After my initial post, I went back to read more of the thread & saw posts saying the kid was ejected. My bad -- I posted without knowing the whole story.
