  1. Like NPFan said, the Slicers opened with New Prairie, at Penn, Valpo with several starters out due to suspension. They hung with Valpo driving into the red zone twice in the 1st half & trailing only 7-0 until an ill-advised interception led to a late 2Q Valpo TD. After watching the LP-Valpo game, my scouting report is that the Slicers are not big, not very fast, not overly talented. At one point when the ball was directly in front of me, I commented that the field appeared to be slanted because all of the guys in white&green were 6-8 inches taller & much bigger than the orange&black.
  2. I have only seen them used pregame or halftime to shoot video of crowd/field/atmosphere.
  3. From the 8/28/2019 IHSAA Meeting Minutes: In the baseball state finals at Victory Field, the Indianapolis Indians have expressed strong interest in continuing the format that was used for the first time in June by playing two state championship games on Friday followed by two more championships on Saturday. For the softball state finals at Bittinger Stadium in West Lafayette, the Purdue University administration is agreeable to the idea of playing two state championship games on Friday and two more on Saturday beginning next June instead of playing all four games in a single day.
  4. From the IHSAA 8/27/2019 Meeting Minutes: University HS – Rule 15-1.2h (Ineligible player appeared in uniformed at the State Finals and received a medal) 1. The University High School baseball program is issued a warning. This warning is official notice that an illegal act has occurred, is a matter of record, and shall not be repeated. 2. Athletic Director John Walls and Head Baseball Coach Chris Estep are reprimanded for this violation. Ignorance of the rules is not an acceptable excuse for a rules violation. 3. The IHSAA holds a higher expectation of University High School to understand the by-laws and compliance therein. *** Doesn't the IHSAA realize by now that University HS plays by their own rules?
  5. Those teams should be ashamed of themselves. I assume you will start a petition to take that state title trophy away from West Lafayette. Be sure to take away Snider's 2015 trophy when they beat New Pal 64-61. Or should we just put these teams on the Contraction List that always pops up around here?
  6. Are you implying that this game was a debacle because of the high score? We are talking about the defending 3A champs vs a top 10 6A team. Obviously, the offenses dominated the defenses but they are both clearly very good teams. Would you call a 6-0 game a debacle just because the defenses controlled the game?
  7. And Zionsville beat Pike 17-7. HCC went 4-0 vs MIC. Only loss was Noblesville to Cathedral. 7-1 opening day record for HCC.
  8. Following up on former LaPorte Slicer Head Coach Dave Sharpe who left LP so that his family could work closely with families at Riley Children's Hospital. Max Preps shows Dave Sharpe as the 2019 Defensive Coordinator for Hamilton Southeastern but I couldn't find any articles or info on the school website. Is this the same Dave Sharpe?
  9. You would think that there wouldn't be issues with the :40 play clock anymore. But I watched the Franklin Central clock operators botch both clocks on Friday. Early on, the play clock guy wasn't starting it up until the ball was set by the refs. And it seemed like the game clock guy just chose to start & stop whenever he felt like it. (Example: DC called timeout late in 1st half but clock kept running. Finally got it stopped & rest it to 0:57. Then he started it BEFORE DC ran the next play. Fortunately, a ref spotted that & they reset to 0:57 AGAIN) Who knows? Maybe this 6A school can't find 2 local people to run the clocks & forced 1 guy to do them both. So if the Franklin Central AD is reading this-- I go to every home game & I know what to do. Send me a note & I'll be there.
  10. Decatur Central at Franklin Central Coach Chuck Stephens Field Dedication Please join the Flashes Nation on August 23rd, in honoring four-time state champion Coach Chuck Stephens as we rename the football field in his honor.

  13. Some folks believe that the IHSAA was on the can when they created the Sectional Assignments...
  14. As far as I know, Open Enrollment in terms of athletics applies only to student-athletes entering their 9th grade year. If student-athletes want to transfer, they must move or get approval from both schools for the transfer or appeal to the IHSAA for approval. I think most transfers like this are signed-off by both schools or due to a move. I don't know the situation behind this one. But it smells funny when a talented Jr or Sr athlete moves from a struggling program to a strong program.
  15. Whoa...praise from the all-powerful Gatekeeper...in the baseball forum too. Thanks 77Jimmie!
  16. But I was 100% right back on 7/22. Can't argue with that. You guys should be thrilled. Luers can win another state title now.
  17. Maybe...but you couldn't tell the difference between June & July about a week ago. Maybe...but the Luers Coach went to the press when he should have left it up to the IHSAA to make an announcement.
  18. Well, based upon all of the basketball transfers this summer, we are moving towards this.
  19. Whew! I don't owe somebody a million bucks! (And I was right all along) Did the IHSAA let this drag on too long? Yes. But as far as I can tell, the Luers 2a vs 3A controversy started when the Luers Head Coach popped off to some local sportsnews website. So maybe he will learn a valuable lesson not to spread rumors.
  20. Snider & Carmel are not in the same Sectional -- they may face each other in the Regional. And in 2020, Carmel moves to the southern Semistate.
  21. Success Factor is a form of the Promotion system used by professional soccer leagues all over the world. Fans of clubs who earn promotion celebrate wildly at the prospect of playing 1 level up, even with little chance for much success at that higher level.
  22. Fair enough. For the record, you played the 'Socialist' card. *** I believe that something like the Success Factor Rule was instituted for competitive balance, not to "punish" successful teams. That's my belief, I know that you & many others disagree & won't be convinced otherwise. Hey, here's an interesting statement which will surely royally piss you off -- I maintain that FW Bishop Dwenger may not have won the 4A State Championship in 2015 & 2018 without the Success Factor Rule. Using your own words, the IHSAA punished the successful teams listed below & let Dwenger win 2 State titles. Look at the competition that the IHSAA bumped up out of 4A in those years: New Pal -- bumped up to 5A for 2015-18. Cathedral - bumped up to 5A in 2013-14, up to 6A in 2015-16, down to 5A in 2017-18. Col East - bumped up to 5A in 2015-18 (unlike New Pal & Cathedral, they probably jumped up into 5A by enrollment in those years anyway) In 2015, New Pal was 5A runner-up to FW Snider in the 64-61 shootout. (Granted, Dwenger beat Snider 20-17 in week 8.) Cathedral won a 6A Sectional. In 2018, undefeated New Pal won the 5A State title with the closest game being 29-17 at Zionsville. Col East won a 5A regional.
  23. So you want to take away healthcare & SS benefits from seniors because you believe in pure capitalism??? Ok, if you say so. But you are heartless & cruel.
