I happened to be standing right at the goal line when Lezon got hurt. He grabbed his hamstring right away & walked slowly to the bench with help. Hope it's not a serious hamstring injury. They've got some serious weapons & he has really nice skills with his arm & legs. -

Late hit & helmet to helmet. Don't the HS rules include Ejection for Targeting? I left with 4:00 to go & missed the fireworks. -

Off. Holding penalty - where is spot of enforcement?
slice60 replied to slice60's question in Officiating Forum
Ok, I think I understand. In this case, the penalty clearly occurred (& the flag was thrown) long after the backward pass. The ball carrier had gained 10+ yards when the holding occurred. So, in this case, the penalty should have been enforced from the spot of the foul/end of the run as they were the same. That means that this crew was overthinking & mistakenly enforced the penalty from the previous spot because of the backward pass. -
Saw this tonight.1st down, Team A has ball on Team B's 45 yd line. QB hands ball to RB running left. RB makes a backward lateral to WR on a reverse. WR runs around right end & gains 15 yards to Team B 30 yd line. As the play is ending, a penalty flag is thrown also at the 30 yd line-- Offensive Holding is called against a receiver blocking downfield. After several minutes of conversation, the crew decided to mark off the 10 yard penalty with the spot of enforcement from Team B's 45 yd line (the line of scrimmage) instead of from Team B's 30 yd line (the spot of the foul & where the ball carrier was tackled). Team A's coaching staff protested loudly but the crew held firm. Next play -- 1st & 20 from Team A 45 yd line. I think it should have been 1st & 5 from Team B's 40.So if the crew was correct, did the backward lateral (as opposed to a simple run play) have an impact on the spot of enforcement? If the crew was correct, then I have to ask if the rule makes sense??? Let's say Team A has the ball on their own 20 yd line. On a run play, the ball carrier breaks a long run & scores. However, one of the offensive players blocking downfield is penalized for Offensive Holding at Team B's 10 yd line. To me, it makes sense for the spot of enforcement to be Team B's 10 yd line (1st & 10 at Team B's 20) & NOT the line of scrimmage (1st & 20 all the way back at Team A's 10).

And an italian beef at Portofino's -
Like NPFan said, the Slicers opened with New Prairie, at Penn, Valpo with several starters out due to suspension. They hung with Valpo driving into the red zone twice in the 1st half & trailing only 7-0 until an ill-advised interception led to a late 2Q Valpo TD. After watching the LP-Valpo game, my scouting report is that the Slicers are not big, not very fast, not overly talented. At one point when the ball was directly in front of me, I commented that the field appeared to be slanted because all of the guys in white&green were 6-8 inches taller & much bigger than the orange&black.

I have only seen them used pregame or halftime to shoot video of crowd/field/atmosphere.

2019 State Finals on Mon/Tues June 17-18
slice60 replied to slice60's topic in Indiana High School Baseball
From the 8/28/2019 IHSAA Meeting Minutes: In the baseball state finals at Victory Field, the Indianapolis Indians have expressed strong interest in continuing the format that was used for the first time in June by playing two state championship games on Friday followed by two more championships on Saturday. For the softball state finals at Bittinger Stadium in West Lafayette, the Purdue University administration is agreeable to the idea of playing two state championship games on Friday and two more on Saturday beginning next June instead of playing all four games in a single day. -

From the IHSAA 8/27/2019 Meeting Minutes: University HS – Rule 15-1.2h (Ineligible player appeared in uniformed at the State Finals and received a medal) 1. The University High School baseball program is issued a warning. This warning is official notice that an illegal act has occurred, is a matter of record, and shall not be repeated. 2. Athletic Director John Walls and Head Baseball Coach Chris Estep are reprimanded for this violation. Ignorance of the rules is not an acceptable excuse for a rules violation. 3. The IHSAA holds a higher expectation of University High School to understand the by-laws and compliance therein. *** Doesn't the IHSAA realize by now that University HS plays by their own rules? -
Those teams should be ashamed of themselves. I assume you will start a petition to take that state title trophy away from West Lafayette. Be sure to take away Snider's 2015 trophy when they beat New Pal 64-61. Or should we just put these teams on the Contraction List that always pops up around here?

Are you implying that this game was a debacle because of the high score? We are talking about the defending 3A champs vs a top 10 6A team. Obviously, the offenses dominated the defenses but they are both clearly very good teams. Would you call a 6-0 game a debacle just because the defenses controlled the game?

And Zionsville beat Pike 17-7. HCC went 4-0 vs MIC. Only loss was Noblesville to Cathedral. 7-1 opening day record for HCC.

Following up on former LaPorte Slicer Head Coach Dave Sharpe who left LP so that his family could work closely with families at Riley Children's Hospital. Max Preps shows Dave Sharpe as the 2019 Defensive Coordinator for Hamilton Southeastern but I couldn't find any articles or info on the school website. Is this the same Dave Sharpe?

You would think that there wouldn't be issues with the :40 play clock anymore. But I watched the Franklin Central clock operators botch both clocks on Friday. Early on, the play clock guy wasn't starting it up until the ball was set by the refs. And it seemed like the game clock guy just chose to start & stop whenever he felt like it. (Example: DC called timeout late in 1st half but clock kept running. Finally got it stopped & rest it to 0:57. Then he started it BEFORE DC ran the next play. Fortunately, a ref spotted that & they reset to 0:57 AGAIN) Who knows? Maybe this 6A school can't find 2 local people to run the clocks & forced 1 guy to do them both. So if the Franklin Central AD is reading this-- I go to every home game & I know what to do. Send me a note & I'll be there.

Some folks believe that the IHSAA was on the can when they created the Sectional Assignments... -
As far as I know, Open Enrollment in terms of athletics applies only to student-athletes entering their 9th grade year. If student-athletes want to transfer, they must move or get approval from both schools for the transfer or appeal to the IHSAA for approval. I think most transfers like this are signed-off by both schools or due to a move. I don't know the situation behind this one. But it smells funny when a talented Jr or Sr athlete moves from a struggling program to a strong program.

Luers to remain in 3A?

But I was 100% right back on 7/22. Can't argue with that. You guys should be thrilled. Luers can win another state title now.
