Statistically, I know I know, folks who have a license to carry a hand gun commit crimes at a rate lower than law enforcement. But every “solution” to gun violence will only affect the people who commit the least amount of crime.

Just out of curiosity have any of you ever tried to get psychological help for someone? If you have you know.

I know, I know.  Statistics...  Curiosity...I know, and that person CAN get a gun.

Witnesses, Video Suggest Stunning Inaction From Uvalde Cops During School Shooting

Sickening.  I believe our SROs may have acted differently, but I don't know what they're supposed to/trained to do.

SF isn't advocating arming all teachers, especially if there is no desire on a teacher's part, or if they are opposed to firearms, but allowing staff to be armed if they so desired and went through specialized training if it were available.

More palatable perhaps would be to allow schools to have retired LEO's or military volunteers to be present and armed.

New York is floating a law to make long guns illegal to own until 21 yo.  I can buy into that, but I think the problem isn't guns - it's people.  Guns have always been around.

I wonder where that kid, a senior in HS, working at a fast-food restaurant living on his grandmother's floor got the money to purchase the weapons he had.  One he used was identified as a DDM4 (about $1,800 https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/daniel-defense-ddm4-v7-semi-auto-rifle ) with a $700 sight on it.  The other one that hasn't been identified I would assume would be about the same cost.  Combined with 375 rounds of ammunition ( https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/federal-american-eagle-military-grade-brass-centerfire-rifle-cartridges )   and this kid would have needed about $5,000 to get his guns and ammo.

I guess it's not impossible, but wouldn't someone in his immediate family throw up a red flag?  Probably not - because Grandpa had a criminal background and "would have reported it" had he known his Grandson bought those weapons since he is not allowed to have guns in the house.  ( https://abcnews.go.com/US/texas-school-shooting-suspects-grandfather-speaks/story?id=84966002 )

Young Sal was living with his grandparents since he had a falling out with his mother.  His argument that morning with his Grandma was over an unpaid phone bill.

Again - guns have always been around, and they don't fire by themselves......

Easy access=USA.  It happens where?  I don't think that is an opinion.

I understand everyone's point, but it seems that it comes down to selfishness, not rights, and not what's best for the country/city/school etc.  Of course, opinion.    I have friends who spout off about the superiority of the USA, but have never set foot in another place to even remotely know.

I know a lot of people who handle firearms quite proficiently. But I’m not so sure of their competency to design a curriculum. Do you view the skill sets as comparable? Because if they’re not, your metaphor is just a cute sound bite, without any real relevance. I hasten to add once again, don’t interpret this as my advocating any particular position in this debate.

A little levity...  I can only speak for my lunch and facebook crowd, but you'll likely have an even worse teacher shortage if they ask us to be armed.    I've been trained in firearms.  At the moment, I don't choose to carry.  I don't want to carry in a school setting.

Arming teachers is a HORRIBLE idea. Kids who want to cause problems can find out who is armed (guessing it would have to be public knowledge since they would be acting as an agent of the State beyond their normal responsibilities) could easily overtake a teacher. When police are called to a school for an active shooter, they see a gun, they are firing. They are NOT taking time to ask who the person is. I think being armed changes the whole dynamic of a student/teacher relationship, on both sides. We do have a couple things in my district that it seems many districts do not. SRO's for one, and secure entrances.....but even then, many shooters come from inside the building and know their way around, and in the case in Florida, the SRO failed MISERABLY at doing his job. There was an armed police office inside Robb Elementary yesterday. So, what if a teacher fails to act? Can they be held personally liable? What if a teacher fires and misses? or even worse.....?

I can't give an emoji, so here's an Amen, an Aye, and a Here-here!  The same people don't even want us choosing books, but here's a gun??????

Starting to buy into the "Arm the teachers" idea.....

There already aren't enough teachers, imbalanced and all.  Most of them can comprehend a sentence, but here we are.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Biden wants to continue to limit the 2A, but literally handed over billions of $ worth of guns and military equipment to folks who hate the US.

The school corp's referendum on the ballot last week failed by a massive margin. It was supposed to raise property taxes and bring in over $200M so the corporation could renovate the 3 high schools. That failed so who knows what happens now. I've heard from people around the city they wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with 1 massive high school. Another was combining West Vigo/Terre Haute North into one high school. I'm not sure what happens. I'm not a big fan of the massive high school idea. I don't wanna see WV go away.

The superintendent was in Elkhart when it was planned into one big high school.

I speak of this from actual experience.  Leo staff talked to us here at Tarboro High School in Tarboro, NC.  We have been running the T (we refer to it as the Tarboro T) since the 1950's.  It is ingrained in our town.  Our rec legs, middle schools, JV and Varsity all run the same offense.

You can say what you what you want about the offense. But since 2008 we have played for Ten State Championships winning Seven of them.  We have average over that time 35 points per game.  So don't question the offense.  If you preach the right thing and coach at the highest levels.  Any offense can and will work.  Teach what you know and get people to believe.  That's what it is about.

Just our opinion.  We don't plan change our offense and we will still intended to compete for State Championships.

Dr. Brown is from Tarboro...imagine that.    HAHAHAH!

His uncle, Dale Doerffler, was one of the better coaches to come out of Fort Wayne. His North Side teams were Snider's nemesis in the 80's and sometimes state ranked.

Father Dean probably goes down and Northrop's second most successful coach. He had some good teams in the late 80's and early 90's. He also had a very successful stint at Concordia. The Cadets were a doormat before he took over.

Conclusion: Coaching is in the blood in that family. I kept waiting for Northrop to have a breakout season, especially after he added his father to the staff. A breakout season never materialized. I think for a program to be successful, the entire school has to be "bought in." Maybe that just wasn't the case at Northrop. Good luck Jason at Leo.

    Buzz Doerfler-  Another uncle.

I wish the best for Coach Doerffler.

I am surprised that he is moving to Leo;  But understanding of the "talent that roams the halls of Northrop" and the inability of multiple staffs to get those individuals on the gridiron....I believe this will be a seamless transition with the Leo program.   I also see a coach whose "record" is no where near reflective of his knowledge and leadership.

The NE8, IMO is an absolute best of a mainly 4A Conference!  I think that it will continue to be so, with perhaps a more diversified offensive approach now heading to Leo HS.

As for Northrop;  I also believe that they could be on the cusp of a sea-change.  If a Coach and their staff could get those kids to 'buy into' the program....there is no doubt they could be a force within the SAC and perhaps 6A North.  Open enrollment in the FWCS is the issue also.  But no need to get all into that quagmire of an issue.

My kids go to Northrop.  School spirit=low.  School culture=low.  School identity=low.  New principal=often.  Once, my daughter called to tell me that there was no teacher in the room.  I quickly called the office and they said that there was a teacher in the room.  I told her I would patch in my daughter three-way calling if she'd like to talk to my daughter and the invisible teacher in the room at the same time.    Oh, the stories I hear and the amazing videos I see every day.

A long time ago, I was an instructional coach with Leo on my coaching list...not really there much, but it was wonderful when I was there.

Biden Claims School Children Don’t Belong to Parents ‘When They’re in the Classroom’

    https://www.nationalreview.com/news/biden-claims-school-children-dont-belong-to-parents-when-theyre-in-the-classroom/

Ahh, the "In loco parentis" baloney again.   Just because it sound kind of cool in Latin doesn't make in any less onerous.

I just make the best decisions I can, sometimes in heated moments, sometimes in odd situations, most of the time it's mundane.  If I ever have to teach ze, zir, and tree then I'm out.

  12. I spent some time teaching on/in the Navajo Nation.  I learned a few things.   My great-grandma was from another nation (tribe).  I lived in Ecuador, Colombia, the Navajo Nation, Indiana and spent months in Peru.   It's hard telling another culture how to feel, but some people like to.

They had more swagger in the "good ole" days. That's the only difference I can see.

There was a definite order to the SAC back in the older days.  Was it the Rod Woodson camp?  Was it the neighborhoods that fed in?  Was it the coaching?  Was it intangible?  Are the outside influences making the other teams better?  Elmhurst and Harding exit, Carroll and Homestead enter....  Some sure wins aren't so sure anymore.
