  1. Northview 34 Terre Haute North 0 (half)
  2. Bloomington South 21 Columbus East 10 (half) East will receive the ball when the 2nd half starts. East with a lot of new pieces was the more disciplined team in the first half and I recall only two penalties which really didn't hurt them. South really hurt themselves with major penalties and had two PIs, a holding call which brought back a long TD run. A block in the back on another long run kind of capped off their first half. There were no turnovers in the first half. Edgewood 28 Mitchell 7 (half)
  3. Bloomington South 21 Columbus East 10 (1:32, 2nd) After the East TD, South marched down the field for the TD. Another big penalty on South negated a big run play, but South was able to overcome it this time. Bloomington North 14 Mooresville 7 (end of 1st) This game is farther along but that was the last score I saw.
  4. Bloomington South 14 Columbus East 10 (5:29, 2nd) After South had a long TD run called back after a hold, CE went down the field helped by another PI on South and a somewhat leaky secondary so far as East has been using short sideline passes to move the ball. East did complete one long pass which set up the TD.
  5. Bloomington South 14 Columbus East 3 (1:32, 1st) South marched down the field after the East FG and scored on a pass play.
  6. Bloomington South 7 Columbus East 3 (4:00, 1st) Nice drive by East after South got a big sack. East found an open receiver to put the ball in South territory, and then a PI by South put the ball even deeper. South stopped CE inside the 10 yard line which brought about the FG.
  7. Bloomington South 7 Columbus East 0 (9:41, 1st) South took the opening kickoff to their 45 yd line and steadily marched down the field for the TD. A nice contingent of East fans on hand for the game at South.
  8. Overall depth looks to be pretty good. There's not much depth behind Jarrin Alley at QB, and they used four QBs in their scrimmage last week against Lawrence Central. It appears that senior Luke Thompson will be his primary backup. The linebacking corps is deep. The line play on both sides looks to be pretty good, but I don't know how many injury hits they can take there and not have it affect the line play. Running back is solid with three established backs. The receiver corps is deep, and South welcomed back their top receiver from last year D'Andre Black after his season last year was cut short by injury. They have good TEs with a D-1 recruit in Tysen Smith being the starter. That's just my view. It's good to have him back after his torn ACL midway through last season. He's 100 pct now and has looked good according to some of the reports I have seen on him.
  9. South will have a new QB under center in Jarrin Alley. He backed up Zach David the past two seasons, but saw a lot of downs under center. Coach Johnson made sure last season that he got a least two series under center in each game, and with many of the games being blowouts, he saw more than that. Two seasons ago, as a soph, he guided South to the game winning drive in the sectional against North after David went down with an injury, so he is definitely experienced and had been in pressure situations. He has a strong running game to back him up with Gavin Adams who is capable of quite of few 100+ yard games and he has experience backing him up in Ben Morrison. South is also returning a strong receiver group to include at tight end. On paper they should be one of the favorites to make it to at least the semi-state barring a rash of key injuries.
  10. I'm not a subscriber but was able to access the article. I have an obvious interest in East since they are South's opening opponent. The Villarreal kid being one the two QBs that is competing for the starting job is 5-9, 207-pounds. I've never seen him, but I wonder about his quickness at that size. South returns 9 of 11 defensive starters from last season's 9-2 team to include a strong linebacking cadre and they may give a QB without much speed, a lot of trouble. However, everything is on paper right now, and you don't win games on paper.

  12. I saw a tweet that said it will be at Castle, so like South, they will have to make the long trip down there. I don't know what it is, but every time South has played Castle in the state playoffs, it has always been at Newburgh. Maybe one of these days, the Knights will have to make the long road trip.
  13. Castle 31 Bloomington South 14 (final) Congrats to Castle. South really hurt themselves in this game with two turnovers on their first two possessions of the game that turned into easy TDs, a couple of major penalties that hurt a couple of drives, and the secondary having two breakdowns in 2nd half when the receiver got behind the coverage. South has had a really strong running game this season, but not tonight as they lost their top running back last week to an ankle injury and then lost their backup RB right at the start of the game, but that's how it goes in football. It was still a good season for the Panthers at 9-2 and they will have a bunch of starters back next season. Castle plays Whiteland next week.
  14. Castle 24 Bloomington South 14 (9:04, 4th) South's secondary has not had a good second half as they gave up another big pass play that set Castle up for a FG and a two-score lead.
  15. Castle 21 Bloomington South 14 (end of 3rd) South had a stiff wind in their face in the 3rd and will now have it to their back in the final qtr. Castle has the ball in their territory.
  16. Castle 21 Bloomington South 14 (3:49, 3rd) South went to sleep in the secondary and the Knights scored on a 70 yard pass play with the receiver well behind the defense. It was Castle's first completed pass of the game.
  17. Bloomington South 14 Castle 14 (half) Castle will get the ball when the 2nd half starts.
  18. Bloomington South 14 Castle 14 (9:41, 2nd) After giving up two short field TDs at the start of the game, South has had no problem moving the ball on the Knights even with a 3rd string RB in there. South scored on a 9-yard TD pass.
  19. Castle 14 Bloomington South 7 (end of 1st) Castle will be punting to start the 2nd qtr.
  20. Castle 14 Bloomington South 7 (2:00, 1st) After giving up two short field TDs, South drove the length of the field scoring on a 13 yard TD pass. South has a soph JV RB in the game right now.
  21. Castle 14 Bloomington South 0 (5:52. 1st) After fumbling the ball on their first possession of the game, South threw a pick at the South 38 yard line and Castle got another short field TD. This entire game has been played at the South end of the field after two straight turnovers.
  22. Castle 7 Bloomington South 0 (8:55, 1st) Bad luck struck South twice at the start of the game. With South's starting RB Gavin Adams out after turning an ankle last week, his replacement Ben Morrison was hurt right at the start of the game. His replacement at RB was WR Drew Crum-Hieftje and there was a handoff issue on 3rd down with a fumble and Castle scored a very short field TD.
  23. Bloomington South 28 Bloomington North 7 (final) With South having a first and goal at the North 2-yard line, South took a knee to run the clock out. After starter Gavin Adams went out late in the 1st with an ankle injury, backup RB Ben Morrison came in and ran for over 200 yards. South will play either Castle or Evansville North next week and regardless of who wins that game, the Panthers will be traveling to the Evansville area for a road game.
  24. Bloomington South 28 Bloomington North 7 (8:40, 4th) After picking North, South went on a 96-yard drive capped off by a 33-yard TD run by backup RB Ben Morrison and it probably put this game out of reach for North.
  25. Bloomington South 21 Bloomington North 7 (end of 3rd) South has the ball fairly deep in their own territory at the start of the 4th. South DL Ralph Rogers went over the 100-tackle mark on the season and just added an INT which they don't get many opportunities for.
