  1. Bloomington South 7 Columbus North 7 (end of 1st) South's QB went out around the 2 minute mark of the 1st with an ankle injury. Backup QB Jared Alley is in for the time being. Roncalli 14 Bloomington North (4:49, 1st)
  2. Bloomington South 7 Columbus North 7 (3:00, 1st) Both teams opened the game with turnovers with South fumbling away the opening kickoff and then picking a pass to regain the ball. South scored first on a drive and CN answered with a TD on a flea flicker play.
  3. If you haven't already found it, you can watch the game at the following link:
  4. FWIW, the Columbus Republic high school beat writer predicts CN winning the game, 21-7. Here is their Friday writeup on the games for both CN and East. I don't have a subscription to that site, but was able to still access the article. Bull Dogs, Olympians face tough Week 7 tests (therepublic.com)
  5. I'm a digital subscriber to the HTO, and you don't see a lot of articles on the games themselves building up to gameday, but there have been quite a few feature articles on players from both South, North, and Edgewood, with a few on the surrounding high schools like Eastern Greene, etc.. About the only thing I saw on the Roncalli/North and CN/South games themselves have been the Friday capsules of each game which really don't delve deeply into the games themselves. FWIW, the Indy Star high school beat writer predicted Roncalli winning the game, 35-24. North's defense gives up a lot of yardage, so I will be surprised if it's an eleven point game. I would go with Roncalli by 21 points, but you have the great equalizers in turnovers and critical penalties at the wrong time.
  6. Beating CN will not be easy. They have three losses that were to Gibson Southern (#1 in 3A at the time, and #3 now), Roncalli (#1 in 4A) and Cathedral (#1 in 5A), and they beat TH North on the road, 24-0 this past Friday. TH North usually has enough offense to score points and up until that game, had not scored fewer than 20 points. CN held the Patriots to just 42 total yards on the game. All of the points in that win came in the 1st half. We beat TH North by 16 points, but the game was closer than that. Having said all of that, sometimes you can get into trouble comparing games since games don't always flow the same. I saw the write-up on that TH game, and CN's offense did struggle at times and South has a pretty good defense. CN has a mobile QB that runs alot. Against TH North, their QB, Luke Hammons, who will be CN's top returning player on their basketball team, ran the ball for 86 yards on 14 carries. Their feature back, Dyllan Redmond, had 213 rushing yards on 26 carries. Bottom line is we need the Panthers to be at the top of their game on defense.
  7. If South wins at CN they will be the conference champs since that is the last CI team left on their schedule. CN's schedule is backloaded with CI teams and still has games left with Bloom. North and TH South after they play Bloom. South. Bloom. North still has two conference games left in CN and Southport. If I'm not mistaken, there could be a three-way tie for the conference title with 4-1 records between Bloom. South, Bloom. North and CN. If CN beats South, the only conference team left that has a chance of beating CN is Bloom. North since CN would be heavily favored over TH South at the end of the regular season. In addition to CN, Bloom. North has a game left with Southport in which they will be heavily favored in that. It boils down to if CN beats South, but loses to Bloom. North, while South has already beaten the Cougars, you have the three-way tie. You can pretty much take it to the bank that neither CN or Bloom. North are going to lose to TH South and Southport, respectively.
  8. They had back-to-back winning seasons during the 2018 and 2019 seasons, so I don't know what happened. They have the new coach so I don't know how that affected the program. They beat South badly last season, 40-14, which was a two-win season for them, and I can't remember how that game transpired to make it so lopsided. but South was hit hard last season by the Covid situation (mostly contact tracing) and a huge number of injuries.
  9. Yeah, 35-13 was the final score and Southport was never in it. South's defense was totally dominant tonight although the defensive numbers will be skewed some by the yardage that the Cardinals got against the reserves. Of the two scores that South gave up, one came after a turnover and the other was against the reserves. Coach Johnson can't be happy about the sloppiness in the 2nd half with the three turnovers and it may have been caused by the players losing their concentration when it was evident they were going to win this game easily.
  10. Bloomington South 35 Southport 13 (1:46, 4th) The Cardinals got a final score against the reserves to make what will probably be the final score a little more respectable.
  11. Bloomington South 35 Southport 6 (3:46, 4th) Backup RB Ben Morrison scores for South on a 17-yard run.
  12. Bloomington South 28 Southport 6 (6:08, 4th) Southport scores after a South fumble at their end of the field. South has played a sloppy game on offense in the 2nd half with two fumbles and a pick. The pick happened when they were driving deep into Cardinal territory.
  13. Bloomington North 69 New Albany 45 (final) North had 539 total yards on the game, while New Albany had 535 total yards, for 1,074 total yards for both teams.
  14. North has gone with their reserves on offense at this point. Total yardage for both teams is at 1,028 right now.
  15. Bloomington North 69 New Albany 45 (6:10, 4th) It was New Albany's turn to score as the yardage for both teams continue to really pile up.
  16. Bloomington North 69 New Albany 37 (10:46, 4th) North scores on a rushing TD by Cody Mikulich who has six TDs so far on the night.
  17. Bloomington South 28 Southport 0 (3:40, 3rd) South scores on a pass play. South tried to give Southport a gift when they fumbled an exchange between the QB and Hogue on the first play of the 2nd half, but Southport's offense went backwards 20 yards and they were forced to punt.
  18. Bloomington North 62 New Albany 37 (end of 3rd) Just as quickly as New Albany scores, North turns around and counters it with their own score. It's almost like neither team has any defensive players out on the field.
  19. Bloomington North 55 New Albany 37 (1:59, 3rd) The score fest continues as it's the Bulldogs' turn to score.
  20. Bloomington North 55 New Albany 31 (5:31, 3rd) The lack of defense by both teams continue into the 2nd half. At the rate they are going, both teams will have a combined offense of over well over 1,000 yards by the end of the game. North's Cody Mikulich is just about at 300 yards rushing and receiving by himself.
  21. Bloomington South 21 Southport 0 (half) South's defense has dominated Southport so far. The Cardinals did not pass midfield during the first half. South had 200 yards total offense in the half, while Southport had 96 yards. South's Che Hogue has 105 yards rushing at the half. South will get the ball when the 2nd half starts.
  22. Bloomington North 42 New Albany 25 (7:51, 3rd) The Bulldogs scored on the opening possession of the 3rd. Two-point conversion try was no good.
  23. Bloomington South 21 Southport 0 (0:55, 2nd) South scored on a short run by Che Hogue. Two-point conversion was good.
