Ben Davis has beaten Cathedral 15 of the last 16 times they've played and 14 straight including, I'm told, the worst playoff lost in Cathedral history in 2016. Has anyone else had that kind of success against the Irish? Not gloating or flexing...I'm really curious.

I wouldn’t lose sleep over someone who probably believes he is the commissioner of the IHSAA, but deep down inside he’s glad he’s not because then he can dream of how much better he would be as a Commissioner. You can’t say anything to him without him ripping you to shreds. Some of us have actual jobs and don’t have all day to be on a high school football forum.
I don't lose sleep over anything on this board. I come here to be a part of the community, and I think there are many great people on here (including Temptation) who have a great passion for it. He likes to challenge what people say, and I have no problem with him doing that. I get his main point. Ben Davis' Sectional was easy. The latter portion of their schedule was down. It still doesn't diminish getting off the mat after being at a very low point following all the unfair chatter that was out there about the school and program following the incident outside the stadium during the Carmel/BD game and playing themselves back into some part of the conversation by doing what was expected of them. Former boys basketball coach here at Ben Davis, Steve Witty always used to say, "One of the toughest things in sports is doing exactly what's expected."

Yeah, good call. I mean you resorted to "Well, Tech had a winning record, lol."
Yes, the Brownsburg win was impressive but its BEN DAVIS man. With the way their schedule is back loaded, they are going to give you that warm and fuzzy feeling every November until realignment occurs.
It'd be like Alabama, playing their SEC schedule first, and then closing the season with Charleston Southern, Wofford and The Citadel before the SEC championship game and then citing those performances as an honest evaluation of their season.
It's not BD's fault that NC was down this year (two years ago, BD beat NC to clinch a share of the MIC with NC). LC was coming on strong. The Sectional is the Sectional, and Tech did have a winning record. You can look it up if you need to. They were 6-5 this year. That was factual.

Then why the hyperbole every November about how this BD team “rises from the ashes” of a poor regular season?
Because they did. After sitting 2-5, they finished in the Semi-State.
Was the schedule favorable? Yes. No question. I don't need a mental evaluation, I believe, as you sub posted about me earlier, but the Giants waxed Brownsburg in the Regional when some thought they would be defeated there.

Lol okay dude. They still have to play teams like Carmel and Brownsburg in regionals to get to semi-state. Not exactly pushovers. I know their sectional is a joke and they have the easiest path to semi-state.
Just because they get blown out by one of the best hs teams Indiana has ever had doesn’t mean their program is down the drain. You act like anyone in the world besides the BD poster on here actually thought BD would win lol. Complete ignorance.Nice sub-post. You can call me out by name. I was here eating my crow.
The Giants didn't ask for this route. It was given to them, and I'm sure it won't be given to them again in the next cycle.

7. Really? You’re speaking like Ben Davis is some underwhelming program or something.
He was saying the same thing 10 years ago only Mike Kirschner was coach then.

I'll say Westfield will give CG a decent game. I'm not silly enough to come out and declare that they will win. Last year, none of Westfield's kids had ever played in LOS, whereas CG had played there against Carmel the prior year. The stage was probably too large for them early on. They did shut out CG the second half, and no, CG did not pull their starters until well into the 4th qtr. This year, Westfield has most of the key players from last year back. If they can get off to a good start, the game may well be closer than people think.
Westfield is a good football team. Center Grove is a great football team, and they're playing motivated.

So, let's play basketball!
Nah, just kidding. I like the resiliency of this Ben Davis team. Got put on the canvas a lot this year and kept getting back up. Center Grove is a juggernaut. They'll cruise next week. There's a reason why they are Indiana's #1 and #9 in the nation.

Whelp. That did not go well. Total buzzsaw in the second half. Congratulations to the Trojans. Clearly a cut above everybody else in 6A. Y'all were right and I was wrong. Not the first time in my life.

Great question! It could be:
Jefferson Davis (former President of the Confederate States of America)
Ann B. Davis (portrayed spunky housekeeper Alice Nelson on “The Brady Bunch”)
David Love III (PGA golfer)
Gray Davis (former Governor of California)
Jim Davis (Muncie native and creator of Garfield)
Or Ben Davis (Railroad Executive) who got a stop on the railroad line. It became known as the Ben Davis stop which became the very small town of Ben Davis (lost to history). They opened a high school which became known as Ben Davis (which was named after the community). That's why "Davis" is not remotely the name of Ben Davis.

Better hope this wind tunnel that has engulfed the Midwest makes its way out before kickoff.
The Giants threw for over 300 yards last week vs. Brownsburg and put the ball up two weeks before vs. Southport in the wind. Swanson throws a good ball, but you're right. It would be nice if the wind is calm.

True. Especially since it was a judgement call. I'll rephrase it to a "very questionable call." I just remember watching the game Week 4 & that stood out to me.
But back to tomorrow night's game, I wonder if Wheat will be healthy enough to be his usual explosive self. That kid has turned into an absolute dude throughout the season.
It stood out to me as well. When I saw the call over the video feed, I thought it was a tough call against the defender, but I'd like to see the video again.

BD: 52 passing Attempts, 10 rushing carriers
CG: 16 passing Attempts, 48 rushing carriers
Semi-State Game?
Will BD come close to 52 passing attempts?
Will CG have more than 16 passing Attempts?
BD can run more now. They were just a game or so from losing their starting TB. Since then, they have developed a couple of guys who can run it. They also have been able to get both QBs more confident at using their legs. They're still a passing heavy team though...no question.

Great insight and data here. Not surprising that Cathedral has the most wins considering they should be a 6A program permanently.
The only avenue I see to changing the current 6A landscape and challenging MIC domination is by adding all P/P schools to 6A. I truly believe Cathedral, Roncalli, Chatard, Brebef, Evansville Memorial, Dwenger, etc. could all compete in 6A and finally challenge the MIC and improve Indiana football.
Brebef?
Your comment is laughable.

MIC teams are not intimidated of each other...seen each other over the years way too many times. BD played CG very tough during the regular season...excellent game plan.
That is what makes the south so tough to come out of in 6A...typically, it involves MIC teams beating up on each other to make it to Lucas. It is a tough road.
CG popped two big plays on back-to-back possessions to make a 24-21 game 38-21.

They only had 3 and they were all 2001-2004 against Carmel. Another interesting fact. The teams with the most non-MIC losses in the last 25 years were Carmel and Center Grove with 12 (Pike also but that's not surprising). Warren Central has only lost 3 times to a non-MIC school in the playoffs and 2 of them were 24 (Arlington) and 25 (Richmond) years ago.
BD should have lost to that Arlington team, but the 56-yard FG by Damon Fine saved the Giants.

There are those that say Carmel’s 1973 “adventure “ @ Valpo had a lot to do with going to neutral sites. 30 mph winds and temperatures in the teens pretty much grounded Coach Dullaghan and Mark Herrmann that night in a 14-13 defeat.
I remember Coach D talking about that one.

Just dont think when you get to this level teams are intimidated, at least I would hope not.
You're not intimidated when you're Ben Davis and you've already seen Center Grove seven times since 2018. The Giants know what they have to do. Many of the seniors have started or played in two Semi-States.

I believe the classes were held at different sites in Indy. I know Lawrence Central and North Central both hosted.
Looks like one of the schools hosted before the neutral sites. Here's John Harrell's list.

Ben Davis vs Warren Central in the 2003 Regional Championship was one of my favorite memories. The Giants were the two time defending champions and they were seeking a third straight state title. The Warriors haven't won a Regional since 1985. It was a close game. But Warren Central won 27-20. The Warriors would go on to win their first of four straight state championships 57-7 over the Penn Kingsmen.
That was Coach Dullaghan's final game. I remember his name being mispronounced over the PA..."Congratulations to Coach Dick Dull-again".
I also remember Coach D addressing the Warriors informally as they all congratulated him on his career. "Be Humble. Play your hearts out! Now go win it all because you're the best team." Still have the audio somewhere around here.
