Good thing I'm not a betting man. I got every one of these wrong except the HSE game. PFFT.

  2. It's time for high school football again. That means that there will be tons of social media sites saying they have the stream of every game in the state. Some are even using the IHSAA's logo in their profile picture to try to get you to click on their links that will scam you or try to get your information. Make sure you are streaming from school or media sites or IHSAATV! Just a consumer warning. Example below from IHSAATV.

Yeah…I tend to follow this line of thinking.  Personally, I hate gambling in all its forms (I’ve never even bought a lotto ticket personally….let alone bet on sports) and would prefer to keep it as far from HS sports as possible - even incidentally.

To a point, every time folks predict scores here they are doing it to an extent.

With that, you have Harrell’s page and, frankly, the Indy Star each week predicting scores.

Still, it bothers me more than a little to see it here but, in the end, I’m not sure you prohibit it.

Edit - I do have a ton of sympathy with DT’s view on this, though, but I think that this bridge was crossed a long time ago.

John Harrell predicts scores...not spreads. Kyle Neddenriep predicts scores...not spreads. Sagarin doesn't predict scores, you have to use your math skills to figure it out. I think it's different to predict betting-like spreads.

Granted, I know I'm probably in the minority here. It just seems unseemly. Every ad on TV is for a sportsbook. I am sure it's only a matter of time before there's some scandal in hs football.

Interesting that many are calling an Avon win an "upset", but no one is calling a BD win over Brownsburg an "upset".

It is according to the rankings.

Avon beating LN is in no way an upset. I saw you corrected yourself on the BD/Brownsburg game, but BD returns their QB and most of the O-Line. Defense will be a work in progress. Depth is also an issue. Once you get past the starters, you find guys that are participating in their first varsity action really fast. Young PK (sophomore). So...I think it all balances out. Should be a great game with a Brownsburg team that has a lot of good players.

    2.  I keep flip flopping on the BD/Brownsburg contest.  Once again, I HATE that this westside rivalry has been moved to a stale atmosphere at Lucas Oil Stadium.  Brownsbug would have made a field day at the gate on this one.  I think BD pulls out a close one 27-24.

BD/Brownsburg is a win-win at their respective stadiums. Great atmosphere!

I wish we still played you guys too.  I think we had similar schedule with Carmel as well where played on consistent basis in the past.  I don't know the history on the change but maybe the priority of playing the CGL had something to do with it...

Yeah, I'm not sure exactly what happened. That game in 11 at Lucas Oil where Coach Streiff decided to go for the win instead of the tie and ended with the BD goal line stand was special.

Given enough time there....I bet they would.

It's a cultural thing as much as anything.

BD has won 14 in a row vs. Cathedral. Wish the Giants still played the Irish. Those two at Lucas Oil were classics!

One of our observers was asked a question by an official who observed a drone being used at the scrimmage he worked: legal or illegal? He sought clarification from the IHSAA and received the word:

    1. Drones are not per se illegal when used in connection with a contest. However, they may not fly directly over the field or stands.
    2. Whether any drone use is permitted on premises beyond that is within the jurisdiction of game management - not the game officials. Check with the host AD before you take off.
    3. Drone use is also subject to local and state laws, as well as FAA regulations.

Being close to the airport, I've been told that drones are a no no in our airspace since we're within 5 miles of IIA.

  10. No idea what to expect until they lace 'em up. I would expect Center Grove's going to be hard to beat, but Kirsch will have Warren ready to go as they can be. This isn't Eric Moore's first time at the rodeo. These guys (Kirschner and Moore) have tangled enough times in MIC play and the playoffs to know each other really well. I know there's a lot of respect between the two of them. By my count, Mike's 5-9 vs. the Grove and Coach Moore.

I think this is a tall order for Warren. If they play again in November, that's when I'd expect WC to be even more dangerous.

That's easy for you to say because your school is the second largest in the state and your trophy box is already full. No disrespect 93, your a good poster on this site. I just HIGHLY disagree with you on this.

That's fine, and I appreciate the comments. No disrespect is taken. I can see the sides on this. I don't like the word slippery slope, but I do think that the lines have to be drawn somewhere. Someone is always going to be #24 or #32 or #65, etc.

I've advocated making the classes based on some sort of success factor completely. If a large enrollment school does not have a history of success, it can drop classes, for example. This way 6A would become the top 32 best teams...by some measure. Don't know how you figure that out.

In my view, the inclusion of Col N, Merrillville, Chesterton, Valpo, Jeffersonville, Warsaw, Southport, Laf Jeff make 5A an extremely interesting class.  Right now these schools are an afterthought in the postseason.

    Thats not right

Not to sound cruel but there are lots of schools who are an afterthought in tournament time. Some years, that's been everybody but one school in a class.

But then when someone dominates, where do we draw the line? How many trophies do we hand out?
