Ben Davis Fan security rules
BDGiant93 replied to djbowzz's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
This is the reality at most Marion County schools. BD is not the only school with metal detectors. I have been wanded also at most MIC schools. We have the wand detectors at BD. BD's away side is the former home side. It seats probably 4K conservatively. There's always plenty of room. I'm not sure how the practice went down at the gate. -
Nothing is a given right now.

Coach Willen passes during Homecoming week. It's only appropriate, I guess. I did not ever meet the man in person, but I had many many conversations about Warren Central with WC grad, Mike Kirschner. He mentioned Coach Willen often. I know he was the kind of teacher we all hope to be. My condolences to everyone on the Eastside and to all the players and staff. Coach Willen has the best seat in the house now. Sending you all love from the Westside. --Jon Easter

The man behind the name John Harrell
BDGiant93 replied to MuleDriver's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I get the image of John sitting in his basement saying, at about 10:30 pm, "WHERE IS THAT GARY LIGHTHOUSE SCORE??" Thanks John for all you do! -
Thanks again for doing this each week WC!

I don't think I can argue against anything. I think they have the potential to be good if they can correct what ails them. Daylan Carnell is that athlete, but he didn't get many touches on offense.

Carmel, LN, Warren, and (I HOPE) BD. I doubt if the BD/Pike game is high scoring.

A couple of months early? #BasketballScore That explains why Bob Lovell was talking about the "ton of points" North Central scored. I was confused. LOL Yes, and if we put it in Indy 500 terms, the Giants were trying to qualify for the Indy 500 in a 1950's roadster vs. Avon's 2019 IndyCar last night.

And I saw that game!

Longest streak at .500 or better?
BDGiant93 replied to gindie's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
BD went from 1986-2017 at or above .500. -
He's a special player.

Brownsburg @ Cincinnati St. X
BDGiant93 replied to Staxawax's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
It's always tough to go into that stadium and get a win. I know Warren and St. X had some controversy at the end of a game a few years back that ended that series. Perhaps the most steps I've ever climbed to get to the press box in my life. I had to use the bathroom, but I just held it until the end of the game because I didn't want to climb back up those bleachers. Great atmosphere. The people were welcoming to us when BD played there...of course they kicked the living daylights out of us. Trip was wrong from the start. BD arrived way early and the locker room at that time wasn't big enough for everybody BD dressed, so they waited in the hot sun before warmups, etc. Played sluggish and got it handed to us. As I recall, BD got down 14-0. Chris Evans caught an apparent touchdown from Kyle Castner but the play was stopped and he was ruled out back towards midfield (something that didn't show on the video). I wish Brownsburg the best! -
Sport-Specific Nicknames
BDGiant93 replied to Frozen Tundra's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I believe Anderson's girls basketball team is called the Lady Tribe. -
I can think of only twice in all the Ben Davis games that I've covered that the mercy rule would have been a problem for a team coming back from a deficit. In 2000, Ben Davis led Warren 35-0 before Warren scored 30 straight points. BD scored 30 straight to win, 65-30. Also, I believe BD got a big lead on Avon one time to have the Orioles come back before BD pulled away and won in MAYBE the 2011 Sectional. Other than that, I really can't think of another time in all the blowouts I've seen (whether benefiting BD or otherwise) that a mercy rule would have hampered a comeback. I love the new rule. It will speed up non-competitive games and perhaps even prevent injuries.

Isn't part of the reason that the charter school was opened because they wanted to keep the identity of the school and community alive? I'd say that might factor into any "contraction" talk. For those new to the forum, Driven T does this stuff. He'll come on, post something controversial, and then skedattle. He's good at it. It's what he does.

It was an awful bad very horrible night for the MIC. Great night for the HCC. Maybe the best night in conference football history, overall.

Cross Country Travel - Is this a good idea?
BDGiant93 replied to a topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Depends on when the travel is happening. I know BD has traveled before out of state, but I can't imagine traveling across the country. Given the 300 mile rule, it's not an issue in Indiana, and I kind of side with the IHSAA on it. -
Not exactly true. BD's non-conference opponents are both ranked in the top 10 in 6A. While Carmel and Warren play national powerhouse Trinity in one non-conference game, they both have teams that don't rank in the top 10 as their other non-conference opponent. Center Grove plays Cathedral and New Pal (both tough teams but not in 6A), LC has HSE and Lafayette Jeff, LN has Perry Meridian and Marion, Pike has Zionsville and Fishers. North Central takes on Fishers and HSE. They're all tough...but BD has the most 6A ranked opponents.
