I agree with what you said as to the reasons. As a former high school baseball coach, I struggled with players resistant to do things the way I want them. The response usually was That's not what my travel coach said". So right there, they have no respect for you. Add multiple players on different teams, it's hard to have continuity. If the parents don't respect you, even privately, how can you successfully have a team.

Frank Karczewski will have to start his head coaching career delayed. The SBCSC school board won't meet until August 1.

Congrats to Frankie, well done. This doesn't have to do with football, but there was an article in the South Bend Tribune on the 1976 State Champ Adams Volleyball team. People are still bitter.

I was talking to someone close to the Adams program. They said a former Adams player will be hired as the new head coach. The new AD was a former Adams player as well.

South Bend isn't a destination site. I don't see a football savior on the horizion.

I was teaching at Elston the last year before the consolidation and was at the high school for a few year after. I remember voting for the school colors. Navy was the choice and the students got to pic the secondary color. Teal, white and gray were the choices.

Just because they don't get paid doesn't mean they aren't quality coaches. Case in point is the dominance of the Fort Wayne CYO against the South Bend/Mishawaka ICCL over the years.

Interesting take. Is Friday Night so sacred that no one ever thinks to play varsity football on weeknights. It would seem easier to find officials that way.

Just Curious: How many Catholic high schools are in each city. South Bend/Mishawaka currently has 2 with another school mostly Catholic and a new start that will have a high school in 2 years.

According to WHME, Coach James' will be reconsidered for the Head job. There seems to be some school board members that may change their minds. Go figure

Conference alignment may come down to geography in the near future. With lack of bus drivers throughout the state and the price of fuel, schools may opt for shorter drives for athletic contests. In addition, with the referee shortage, crews may not be willing to make the drive to officiate if they think they can't make money. These are facts, especially in the Southern part of Indiana.

I am not as tech savvy as most on here, but there is a great youtube video by coach Frank Martin (then of South Carolina) about referees and coaches. It is worth a listen.

When I first started teaching, there were some positions that were more "coach friendly". Today, that isn't the case. I have seen coaches leave because they can't do their teaching and coaching jobs to the level they want. Getting to know the kids outside the field is very important. If you only see them at practice, it's hard to develop relationships with them. There are many head coaches that can't find decent assistants to help, so he does most of the coaching solo. Not good for one's sanity.

The community wants all 4 high schools. They are upset with how the monies are being spent from the referendum. Besides Adams, the other three high school are at about 50% capacity. But it doesn't seem to matter to the public. I don't want any school that covers grade 6-12. Not good. If you make Clay an athletic facility, how are the kids going to get out there. No bus service.

Riley's new coach is Derrick Lee. He is the nephew of SBCSC AD Milt Lee. He came from Muncie Central

I think "blue blood" is more about sustained excellence than number of championships. The top of the list is Cathedral who has won championships in the 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, and 20s I may have missed someone who tied that mark

So 20th century high school football isn't relevant?
