  1. Mr. Spicer was probable a straight on kicker. Awesome
  2. Maybe they have trouble getting teams to play them...can't have too many bye weeks in a season
  3. I was teaching a MC when the new Ames was coming together. It was a grass field installed by the "Sodfather" Roger Bossert. The roots were about a foot deep. Man that was a beautiful field. But turf is the way to go now. Good to see all the upgrades...well needed.
  4. Just a random thought for an equalizer. How about all Catholic Schools only have Catholic Students. That's the way it used to be. Lutheran Schools have only Lutheran Students. Christian Schools have only Protestant Students. They all are private and don't have to admit anyone.
  5. The South Bend school bell schedule will change next year. This came from the other schools in the conference (as claimed by administration). Hopefully, games will be played in a timely manner this season, unless transportation becomes a bigger issue.
  6. Here might be a topic to discuss for a while. Do you think that the South Bend schools help or hinder the rest of the schools in conference, in football? Interested to see everyone's opinion
  7. We have a Jeshiva in South Bend and I got curious. Would a high school football program schedule a game against a Jeshiva, considering they can't play Friday night or Saturday during the day, at the Varsity level.
  8. Does anyone think that the NIC is the best fit for Elkhart and Penn now? Maybe all the 6a DAC along with Elkhart, Penn, and Warsaw make a new conference. Then Marian, St. Joe, and Jimtown join the NLC. Glenn and New Prairie can go with their old NSC teams. Could be the best for everyone
  9. Why don't all the 6a's mentioned just become independents. They can schedule who they want, when they want. Make sure to include Warsaw in that mix as well
  10. If all this doesn't matter...give me your plan to make Gary West a football power...if you choose to take this challenge
  11. What happened to the NLC discussion. This seems to be a theme across many Grid topics. Can't stay on subject. Although entertaining, hardly informative. Why not have a general rant thread where people can just do what they wish...within reason.
  12. I agree...nobody should get a trophy...especially in a team sport. Glad to see common sense come to light
  13. ADD has rendered it's head again. May have to purchase an Adderall salt lick.
  14. I remember a time where a coach would teach a subject they weren't licensed in order to coach. The most popular subject was special ed. I don't know of one coach who made it more than one year because of all the requirements, especially writing IEP's. If you don't know what you are doing, they can take a long time to finish. During football season, you don't know your Teacher of Record kids, let alone write an IEP for them. Thanks goodness that isn't the trend anymore.
  15. When I was in high school during the mid 70's, every coach at our high school was a teacher in the building. I remember our Athletic Director taught 4 English Classes, had his teaching prep and one extra for AD duties, with no secretary. Now...almost 50 years later, things have changed. About half the head coaches are teachers, and the AD is now a full time position with a secretary. Have things become more complicated? Maybe so Are there fewer teachers entering the field? More than likely, yes Do new teachers think they can handle coaching and teaching? Looks like more no's than yeses. Coaching has become a year round activity, it's seems that fewer teachers are willing to put that time to do both jobs. Does the football coach need to be a full time position?
  16. Just curious...why is OT a thing. Games have ended in a tie since sports began. It is necessary to have a winner. I can see it if has to do with seeding a tournament or something like that. I remember going to the last tie game at Notre Dame Stadium. I still enjoyed the game. Overtime is needed during the playoffs, but why during the season
  17. Gary West is the real deal. Carmel will have their hands full.
  18. Just curious, is a requirement of the Concordia head coach is that he is a practicing Lutheran?
  19. It's gonna be a long afternoon next Saturday...Gary West is the real deal. Nice to bring Gary West in any conversation here
  20. Is this proposal only for the rural teams? Here in South Bend...we are the Washington Generals of high school football. Maybe a step down in class may be the ticket
  21. I may need help to verify my answer to this. A big problem getting teachers to coach is their teaching workload may be too big to handle all. Example, in a big school, a math teacher may only be teaching Algebra all day. The same teacher in a small school may be teaching Algebra, Geometry, Trig, and Calculus. That's 4 different preps daily. A lot to put on a plate. Also, some coaches may get an extra prep during their season...That's shorts the department one class someone will have to cover. For the experienced teacher, may not be a problem, but the new teacher...very difficult to master in the first couple of years.
  22. I think he means playing the conference schedule in the same orders every year. Do conferences ever change the order of the conference schedule?
  23. exactly...they did that when Elston and Rogers combined for Michigan City High School as well
  24. New Prairie plays on Central Time so that has already been solved
  25. So, if Elkhart and Penn move to the DAC...would the subsequent move be Michigan City and LaPorte to the NIC?
