  1. He was a Riley baseball players when I coached there...he was a tremendous hitter
  2. Again...let's look at what the player would do. I believe they don't care who lines up in front of them...they just want to play. Adults are the problem...they are the ones who whine and moan. Is that what we want to teach our kids? Let's get over it or get out of the kids way.
  3. Why would they take kids from South Bend for football. Wouldn't be a help to their program. Who is going to get them to LaVille?
  4. I don't know...they traditionally get players from those areas. Maybe Elkhart lost some players to Marian with the consolidation.
  5. St Joe and Marian don't have boundaries so it is open enrollment. The better players are going to Marian. Marian gets some players from the Elkhart and Lower Michigan areas.
  6. Yes the days of the tough Polish and Hungarian kids are gone. With no ICCL football this year, the cupboard will be even barer. With open enrollment in Catholic schools, Marian seems to be the choice in football lately. South Bend teams are more focused on the "City" Championship than Conference titles. I don't think a South Bend school has beaten Penn since 1985. Can't remember when they beat Mishawaka either.
  7. PREVIEW 6:59 SC Featured: When one player's selflessness fulfills another's ... ESPN.com
  8. I think it's time to get some information: Are your CYO's for sports school based or parish based? Here in South Bend/Mishawaka/Elkhart we have the ICCL which is school based.
  9. I wonder what the players would think of this argument. Most just want to play. The adults muck it up with equity and fairness. I could be that Small Town High would play whoever was their opponent. I bet St. Maximilian Kobe High would feel the same. Just let the kids play. Give no one a trophy. It's for the adults anyway
  10. On the IHSAA website, Football is listed as a boys sport. The only two sports that are coed are Unified Flag Football and Unified Track. As far as 8 man goes, I don't know how it would work economically for many smaller schools. Equipment and Personal could be quite costly. How many schools that play soccer would want to add football to their plates.
  11. One of the perks of the Indiana tournament is the chance to play your final game inside at Lucas Oil. An outside venue would seriously reduce attendance.
  12. I am coming to this from a different angle. I am pro P/P not needing a multiplier. This group of schools weren't even recognized by the IHSAA until 1942. Then, it was still hard to compete. My father played for South Bend Catholic in the early 40s. He told me stories of how opposition fans throwing fish on the field. The only public they played on a regular basis was Gary Roosevelt. I don't know how it was for the other P/Ps, but I know the IHSAA owes these schools everything they deserve, because of how they were treated back in the old days. Maybe some of you also have stories to share about this. I, for one, thinks these stories need to come to light here. So here's to the P/Ps. You have earned your right to be an equal member.
  13. I agree. For the most part, the community decides if a program is successful. They invest their money, resources (players), and effort into making a successful program. Some areas don't have that commitment. Some programs have trouble getting coaches for their youth programs. Some coaches don't follow the head coaches directives. For some programs it's just an opportunity to give guidance and supports to kids who don't have that. The most important thing is to keep those kids engaged (for many winning isn't the incentive). These programs serve the greater good of a community. Moving schools up and down classes might be the way to go, but having kids get a positive experience and have something to tell their grandkids is more important. Others say that there are other opportunities out there. Most I have found in my area are very disorganized and loosely run that may cause more harm than good. So here's to high school football. Although some programs are the most polished, they can still shine
  14. Well if we are all about out of bounds thinking and really leveling the field for all high school teams. P/P schools 2.0 Single High School Districts 1.5 Let's get wacky
  15. I believe what happened was a SB Adams player tested positive Saturday morning. Mishawaka is in self imposed quarantine. Is Mishawaka virtual or in person classes at this time?
  16. That was the year they had Anthony Johnson. There were the last NIC team to beat Penn before their winning streak in the conference.
  17. You are correct...they are going for their first sectional title with a win It's all good. I was kind of surprised with that. Washington has two and Clay and Riley have one each
  18. Checking the IHSAA web site...South Bend Adams is going for the first sectional title EVER. The school was open in 1940. I found that hard to believe.
  19. If this continues...someone could advance to the finals without playing a game.
  20. Like I said...this was based on districts I knew had multiple high schools. I may have missed a couple. Still the numbers are very small.
  21. 14 titles out of a possible 220 is still very small...a little more that 6%
  22. I looked at the school districts...not the schools. There are 5 schools in Evansville and Fort Wayne, 4 in Indianapolis and South Bend, and 2 in Bloomington, Terre Haute, Columbus, and Hammond
  23. While looking at the past Indiana High School Football Champions since 1973, I notice a huge lack of schools from multi-high school districts. Based on my math (using and old calculator) out of 220 possible state champions, multi-high school districts won a total of 10 times (5%). They were runner up 12 times of 220 (5.5%). There are many factors that contribute to this, but I am curious to understand why some of the 6A schools don't split into smaller high schools. I would think it wouldn't be for athletic reasons. 24. I agree...the right and the left have us scared. You and Dr. Ron Paul on the same page. This tournament will finish...you either win my score or attrition...how it should be.
