  1. Another issue to consider...Officials were given permission to opt out this season and not lose their standing in the IHSAA. I believe it was said on another thread, the average age of an official is 57. If 10% of the officials opt out this season. What effect would that have on games this season. If an official is tested positive...is the entire crew done for two weeks? Could teams have games with only 4 officials?
  2. Nope just an update from the St. Joe Valley
  3. Mishawaka's head coach tested positive for the virus. Elkhart Schools not having in person class to begin the year.
  4. I see many people on here are getting information from the Ron Paul Institute on the COVID situation. As Dann and Ron say "Facts over Fear" A hearty applause
  5. I'm not sure. The IHSAA is talking about that
  6. Elkhart Schools is offering 2 options this fall. 1. Hybrid- 2 days in person with two days of at home (assuming doing assignments) and Friday elearning. I believe school is either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday 2. elearning 5 days
  7. Now it all comes out... You would think that this site would be pro teacher...I never would have thought.
  8. No...they are just following South Bend's plan...South Bend will vote on the proposal on August 3. A little late wouldn't you think?
  9. The meeting was about 4 and a half hours with little discussion. Dr. Cummings put a plan together and they will vote on it August 3 (a little late). In other news...a new corporation AD was hired. We will see how that goes.
  10. I find the opening of schools would serve a great purpose...the elimination of public school education. There are a lot of people looking for a payday out there and this may be their golden ticket. If a player catches the virus and ends up in the hospital...I have no doubt the parents would lawyer up. The suits may not be worth the paper printed on, but they will take time and energy and corporation money. What is the procedure for a student if they refuse to wear a mask (if required)? Talk about potential law suits there. You may think all parents are honorable...think again
  11. What about Libertarians...you have followed their mantra this whole thread
  12. "The fact I can say 'Old racist with failing health and credible rape accusations', and you aren't sure if whether I'm talking about Biden or Trump, tells you everything you need to know about the GOP and Democrats" Spike Cohen...Libertarian Vice Presidential Candidate Discuss
  13. I keep wondering why all sides can be wrong on this issue. Let's the kids play without adults around. There is where you learn life lessons.
  14. For everyone's information, Unified Flag Football is a sanctioned IHSAA sports. There is an end of the season tournament with a champion declared. The champion gets all the things other sports get. Trophy and rings for the participants. Unified means athletes (potential Special Olympics athletes) and partners (non disabled students). They are a team, just like any other ISHAA team, in the eyes of the ISHAA. This season, the IHSAA is shooting for 64 teams for the season. We will get there, if not this year, sometime in the future. These athletes consider themselves football players. I will hope the GID community affords them this designations. This year, I will be coaching flag football and I have to follow all the procedures that the other football coaches are.
  15. Are there any districts who are delaying their start until after July 6?
  16. A few years back...Notre Dame wanted to place a building at the site of a current elementary school. They offered to build a new school beside it. The School Corp turned them down. Just an example of how our school system works.
  17. The City and the Schools are separate entities. I'm not saying that there is something to what you said. The organizer of the "No" vote is the director of Career Academy, the biggest charter in South Bend. Dr. Cummings has not really given a plan for the money. It's 50-50 if it will pass. The 'No's" are better organized than the "Yes's"
  18. I would bet the majority would go to Mishawaka. It is on the bus line, don't have to have parents transport.
  19. The main person spearheading the vote no campaign is the director of the Career Academy. Go figure
  20. If the referendum doesn't pass...major cuts have to take place. Programs may be cut, including athletics. If that happens...there will be a mass exodus out of South Bend.
  21. I don't think it will be contraction...It will be elimation
  22. Read an article in the South Bend Tribune about the possible loss of revenue for all sports if football doesn't happen this fall. My topic isn't about what might happen to the football season but another topic entirely In the article, a spokesperson from South Bend said the 4 high school programs generated $62,618 in 18 homes games Mishawaka generated $71,000 in 4 or 5 games and all playoff games Penn $66,000 in 4 or 5 games plus playoff games, that wasn't counting the all sports pass revenue. Found that interesting to say the least. South Bend school have a referendum coming up June 2. Dr. Cummings said they will be programs cut...not sure about athletics...but I wouldn't put it past him if football isn't making money.
