Agree to disagree. I contacted a friend who is a former replay official in the NFL and now works as a replay advisor to the Washington Commanders. Here’s what he told me: “I had a game several years ago on SNF and a prominent QB in a red jersey clocks the ball at the end of the game. It’s right as the GC is showing 0. I hold the crew. I look at it and the ball is hitting the ground with 1 second clearly showing on the Hawkeye system. On the TV it clearly shows 0 on the timing “bug” at the bottom of the TV viewers screen. I could see both when I did it and went with the official clock. I put 1 second on the GC and we had one last play. NY agreed in the moment and after. The prominent QB in a red jersey throws a Hail Mary incomplete so nobody cared. Here’s what I know. Obviously one of the clocks last night was inaccurate-only by indiscernible hundredths of a second. And nobody would ever notice (or care) until it’s this tight. I have found over the years that the clocks on the TV viewers screen tend to be the inaccurate ones. The process of broadcasting a clock….. sending that image to the truck and then electronically superimposed it on the broadcast takes a micro second and usually makes the TV clock slow….even though that’s the opposite of what happened last night and to me a few years ago on SNF. More commonly, the clock you see all game in the scoring and timing “bug” at the bottom of the TV screen it purely synthetic and will always run slow. End of the day the clock on replay monitors is the one that is going to be used and always has been used. It is the one that is set side by side on the RO monitor. If someone way smarter than me can figure out how to truly synchronize all of the clocks that are viewed by multiple sources and inputs at a football game please knock yourself out. Officials would be happy to take this controversy source out of play.”

At Mishawaka, as they entertain Penn. When I was on the field, this was always one of my favorite games to work. And an added plus: a @maroonman sighting!

Problem is, you’ve got a Dallas County judge looking to bolster his reelection chances by currying favor with the fans of the local team. This scenario plays out all over the country in eligibility disputes, even at the high school level.

It’s not necessary for U to keep his cushion, since he has no goal line responsibility. He comes onto the field after the wave of K players passes him, and holds his ground and lets the return flow past him if it gets that far … just like on a punt.

The Law of Unintended Consequences strikes again. When NIL came to be, no one foresaw borderline NFL players going back to college … because the NIL $$ exceed the NFL’s rookie pay scale. I sincerely hope this is the straw that breaks the camel’s back … and causes someone to grab college football by the throat and shake some common sense into it. As many have observed, the current model is unsustainable.
