  1. Another guy who is as consistent as the sun coming up in the East. 🤣
  2. The Packers and the New Jersey Nets are great examples of what happens when management abdicates its responsibility and enables a player to, in essence, dictate the direction of the team. The Packers did it when they broke the bank for Rogers, strapping them unbearably at other positions, and then let him become the de facto offensive coordinator. The Nets did it when they let Kyrie Irving dictate when and where he would play. The result is two dysfunctional teams that have deteriorated from championship contenders to dumpster fires.
  3. The reason for this is so they wouldn’t have to make one of the assistants the interim coach … since they’re going to clean house at the end of the season.
  4. That’s one of the things I like about you. I bet if you were a football coach, you’d be one of those guys who would run the same play over and over as long as you felt it was working. Basically, you’re the GID equivalent of Bishop Chatard’s offense under Vince Lorenzano.
  5. The Law of Unintended Consequences strikes again!
  6. If you are talking about the state finals, that is certainly true. For the semistates, it’s likely true. But not at Regionals. There are 24 Regionals. Not enough observers to have one at every game.
  7. The National Federation has a new rule that reads: “A state association may create instant-replay procedures that permit game or replay officials to use a replay monitor during state postseason contests to determine if a decision by the on-field game officials is incorrect.” Obviously, the IHSAA has not implemented any such procedures … yet. Should they? I understand there are going to be technological and financial concerns. But how about philosophically? As technology becomes better and cheaper, which it inevitably will, do objections fall away? Or does the fundamental difference between high school football vs. college and pro argue against using any form of replay at this level?
  8. Now you’re just being silly. Reductio ad absurdum.
  9. Not to me. I am a follower of the Parcellian School of Football Logic: You are what your record says you are.
  10. Ultimately, of no consequence. There are no moral victories … or defeats.
  11. That would blow. 😅😂🤣
  12. He was the poster boy for it. Here’s a tantrum he threw over a famous no call in the Michigan game in 1977. This is the play that got Jerry Markbreit into the NFL. As an aside, the intended receiver on the play was Dick Wakefield, who was a boyhood friend of mine in Avon Lake, OH. This was, perhaps, Woody’s greatest performance. He hated Michigan with a passion. Wouldn’t even say the word. Just referred to them as “that school up North.” Legend has it that he was on a recruiting visit “up North” and ran out of gas on the return trip. He pushed his pickup truck until he crossed the state line so he wouldn’t have to buy gas in Michigan. In case you can’t tell, this was the Michigan broadcast.
  13. I’ll see your Bobby Knight and raise you the acknowledged master psycho. At least Knight only abused his own players.
  14. There is no doubt the guy can coach. Personality-wise, meh… But people like Dabo and Nick Saban have taught us that personality issues fade away when you are winning at the highest level.
  15. Will the Snider fan base travel well to Mishawaka?
  16. This will make it even sweeter when the Buckeyes blow Michigan’s doors off in a few weeks. 😉
  17. That team was missing it’s starting QB. Guy named Trevor Lawrence. And Clemson may not be the #4 team in the country. But they are top 10, and that’s “good” by any measuring stick.
  18. OK, now. Freeman has done something in his 10th game that Kelly failed to do his entire tenure: beat a good team … that they weren’t supposed to beat. @temptation You’re welcome!
  19. Not before it’s over.
  20. I’ll be feeling better when it’s in the books. Not before.
  21. I swear to God. If they lose now, I’m coming for you.
  22. Then I guess things haven’t changed much since my last trip to Steele.
  23. HC will be back. Next year they move to the NCC. Playing the likes of Andrean, Hobart & Lowell is much better preparation for a team like West Lafayette than playing Lake Station, River Forest and Boone Grove.
  24. I don’t know. I’ve seen pretty much every big school championship game for the last 30 yrs. The 2003 Warren team’s performance was the best I’ve ever seen. Of course, I had a pretty good vantage point for that one.
