  1. Now the plot really thickens. This is going to make Nov. 25 even more interesting than usual. The Buckeyes and Big Weasels have no love for one another under the best of circumstances. But this sort of thing makes for real bad blood. If I were assigned to officiate that game, I would be really concerned about preventing some kind of ugly incident.

Michigan Reportedly Has Evidence Its Sign Stealing Scandal Was Uncovered And Leaked By Private Investigators With Ties To Ryan Day

On3 — Several sources at Michigan and in the media tell TheWolverine.com they are gathering evidence on two private investigators they believe are behind the investigation into U-M’s alleged illegal on-site scouting. The same sources also believe the two are responsible for the media leaks that have kept the story in the news for weeks.

Both allegedly have ties to Ohio State head coach Ryan Day’s family.

Reporters are working to put the pieces together, but we know Michigan is currently in possession of documents that could link one of the alleged investigators to Day’s younger brother, Timothy Day. The other they suspect is linked to Day’s brother, Christopher, and was also a classmate of Tim Day’s in New Hampshire. One currently runs a private investigation firm in Manchester, N.H., Day’s hometown.

In addition, other sources at Michigan allege some of the evidence — specifically, a spreadsheet provided to the Washington Post with analyst Connor Stalions’ travel plans and budget for his operation in which he allegedly paid people to video opposing teams’ signs — was obtained by gaining access to his computer illegally. Upon investigation, more sources indicated law enforcement has begun looking into the source of the information as a result.

So it seems Michigan has proof that its sign-stealing operation was brought to light by private investigators linked to Ohio State coach Ryan Day. And I guess they're really pissed off about this? The entire operation was apparently the worst-kept secret in the Big Ten and it's supposed to be some sort of shocking revelation that evidence of the cheating ring was found by Michigan's arch nemesis?

I guess there could be some sort of recourse if it ends up being proven that Connor Stalions's computer was accessed illegally, but having evidence you were caught cheating isn't exactly a flex. Now it does make the story that much better and more ridiculous that Day seemingly hired his PI brother to uncover all of this, but it doesn't change the fact that Michigan was the school cheating for years when it magically transformed into one of the best programs in the country. Someone was going to blow the lid on this eventually.

This year's Michigan-Ohio State game is going to be one of the must-watch sporting events of all-time, though. I'm actually glad UM has been running this scheme for the content it has already given us and that which is certain to come in the near future. The rest of this season is going to be fun.

nice no call hold on their only WR. but whatever...these refs are questionable

So, the refs make a terrible no call on a pass interference. Penn punts the ball straight into the air. Ball hits Penn grabs it, no whistle and Penn runs the ball in for a TD. ??? 21-3

These “questionable” refs worked the state finals in 2016 & 2020. I worked my last year on the field with this crew. They know what they’re doing.

I have to see this. At what point in the game did these things occur?

It appeared to not cross the line of scrimmage....is the only thing we can think of.

    Penn intercepts pass...pick 6

If a kick does not go beyond the neutral zone, it can be recovered and advanced by either team.

  4. I was in Bloomington from the Fall of 1974 to the Spring of 1977, probably the best 3 seasons for IU basketball. Scott May was the best player in college basketball. Benson a dominant force in the middle. But the engine that made the whole thing run was Quinn Buckner.

  5. And now, everybody Michigan has played in the last few years is coming out with this kind of crap:

Notre Dame Football: So... we’re pretty sure Michigan cheated against the Irish in 2019

Remember going “wth?” on a rainy October night in Ann Arbor?

The ongoing scandal involving the Michigan Wolverines and the cheating operation of Conor Stalions has almost completely overtaken the college football conversation over the last couple of weeks — and for good reason.

If only half of what is being alleged turns out to be true, then this is truly one of the greatest scandals in college football history. What’s frustrating for fans right now, is that we are in the middle of a season and Michigan is in fantastic shape to make the college football playoff despite evidence that has been put forth about this cheating happening this year (like Stalions being on the Central Michigan sideline in sunglasses in the Chips night game against the Michigan State Spartans).

The College Football Playoff Committee is taking a pass on doing anything about Michigan’s actions, and passing the buck onto the NCAA. The Big Ten coaches, however, have no intention of being patient about any of this and expressed a desire for the conference to do something right away.

So... what does any of this have to do with Notre Dame this year? Not much (that we know of) as the Irish took themselves out of playoff contention down in Louisville a few weeks ago. This scandal, however, goes back years — including the last time Notre Dame played Michigan back in 2019.

Remember that 2019 game in Ann Arbor? Remember how the Irish couldn’t do a damn thing right offensively? Well... there may be a very good reason for that besides poor bye week preparation.

This story is absolutely insane and only gets crazier with each passing day.

Glenn at Knox - The Redskins found out last week that regular season success won't translate to 3A playoff success!  They are a great team with some excellent weapons, but they'll have to take it to another level to win these tournament games.  The HNAC is a good conference, but it didn't prepare the Redskins for what they'll see if they go deep in the 3A tourney!  But Radtke will have them focused this week and Knox will get another Sectional 26 title.  Redskins 30-14

I will be at Knox Friday night for this one. Did you know that the 2 head coaches have 541 wins between them? Is there another game in the state that can match that total?

Due to the bankruptcy of Bally Sports, future telecasts of IHSAA state championships will be exclusively as a pay-per-view presentation on IHSAAtv.org.  46 states preceded the IHSAA in charging for viewing.  Additionally, the IHSAA is one of the few that still allow free-to-watch presentations of the sectional and regional levels.

    Common questions:

Q:  Why don't local TV stations air the finals?

A:   The cost to produce the finals for television using advertising as the revenue source isn't feasible.  No TV station or regional sports network came forward to cover these costs.  Advertising dollars are escaping conventional media such as television stations, radio and newspapers migrating to the web and social media.

Q:  Where does the money go?

A:  The cost to produce a broadcast quality production for sports previously covered by Bally exceeds $200,000.  Those costs will need to covered before any distribution to schools or the association.  However, the IHSAA provides over $2,000,000 in tournament gate proceeds back to the schools yearly.   This year, rights fees paid by broadcasters are also being given back to the schools.  The amount given back to the schools exceeds the total operational budget of the IHSAA.

    Q:  How can I watch?

A:  There are several options.  The best option is purchasing a Roku, Firestick or Apple TV device and downloading the free IHSAAtv app from their various app stores.  You'll need an account with HUDL, to which you will be prompted when purchasing access.  These devices connect to the HDMI port on your TV allowing you to watch the game in high definition.  It's always available via your browser at IHSAAtv.org

Q:  Is a yearly subscription for IHSAAtv available?

A:  At this time, the only option HUDL (our streaming provider) provides is a purchase of single games (matching the event ticket price) or an all-access pass (generally a $5 add) that gives you all games being played at the current final or semi-state.

Q:  Will the finals return to Cable TV?

A:  We don't know.  There's a chance Bally comes out of bankruptcy and decides to re-up.  Our hopes for local over the air TV is low due to the substantial cost of production.  This cost was the reason the Comcast and Channel 4 excited coverage in the recent past.

IHSAAsports began streaming finals in 2005 and exited in 2010 due to costs.  IHSAAtv.org was founded by HomeTown Sports and is now a product of the IHSAA.

Attached picture is from the NFHS network showing states that charge for tournament viewing.

One of the more clear, concise and informative posts I’ve seen on the GID in some time.

    Makes perfect sense. Thank you.

So what’s the contingency plan when crap really hits the fan? Has that been discussed? For football, are we going to have to implement bye weeks? Will some games just not get played? Will high school-sponsored sports cease to exist?

That’s way above my pay grade. I’d prefer to concentrate on curing the problem long term, and let others figure out the mechanics of dealing with the current crisis.

Now I'm wondering if it's 35-0 at halftime, and the team with 0 runs the 2nd half opening kickoff back for a TD, is it still a running clock? @Bobref?

    Yes.

In normal timing, the game clock would start when the kickoff was legally touched. In Mercy Rule timing, it starts when the ball is kicked. Once it starts, Mercy Rule timing is in effect for the remainder of the game.

My understanding is this can happen after a touchback and before a PAT....correct? are there other instances?

The team next to put the ball in play can place the ball anywhere between the hashes following a touchback, fair catch or awarded fair catch, on a try or free kick, and on 1st down in overtime. Have I missed one?

Ironically, Harbaugh had a contract on his desk ready to make him the highest paid coach in the Big Ten and it was set to be wrapped up by the end of this month.

A lot of moving pieces/motives to the slow drip leaking/timing of this story and the ties/relationships between those who broke the story/hired the PI firm that is said to be leading the investigation.

    Truth will come out shortly…

I can’t say I’ve followed the details of this story as it has developed. But I’ve read several stories that said the investigation was kicked off by some investigative entity who provided the authorities with video and other tangible evidence. Who was this and why/how did they come by this evidence? What was their motivation for ratting out the Large Weasels?
