  1. Or getting hit by one. I moved to Indiana in the summer of ‘69. Played high school baseball in the Spring of 1970. I led off for Munster and our first game was played in about 45 degrees of blustery wind, spitting rain. With the first pitch of the game, the pitcher from East Chicago Washington hit me right on the elbow. I couldn’t feel anything in my left arm for 3 innings. BTW, the pitcher for ECW was Tim Stoddard. Remember him?
  2. Notre Dame is handling NIL in a unique way. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/brady-quinn-leading-notre-dame-collective-fans-react/ar-AAWkBeK Brady Quinn Leading Notre Dame Collective: Fans React Former Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn is spearheading the new NIL collective for the school. © Provided by The SpunA closeup of Brady Quinn throwing the ball for Notre Dame. The collective already has some Fighting Irish players signed up for it. FUND (Friends of the University of Notre Dame) started up back in January and it anticipates working with more than a half-dozen Notre Dame football players this spring. The board for it includes Tom Mendoza, Pat Eilers, and Jason Sapp. Per Pete Sampson of The Athletic, the board will interview players to determine the best possible fit and charitable interests. After that, it matches the charities with the players. Quinn is really excited about getting this going. “Notre Dame is very much in this in the NIL space,” Quinn said. “The goal is to provide these student-athletes with the opportunity to be able to take a portion of their time and receive compensation for it, but really falling under the guidelines of God, Country, Notre Dame, causes that are bigger than yourself. And that’s what this is all about.” The Notre Dame fanbase is pretty excited about this new endeavor. It will be fascinating to see how this is used to try and get recruits to come to South Bend, too
  3. I’m comfortable with the relative positions of the two programs. Go Irish 🍀
  4. Merely a minor blip on the radar screen for me. But I can see where Michigan fans would latch on to it.
  5. The Jamboree format was very beneficial for the officials. You’d put 10 or so officials at each site, and they would rotate in and out all night. The great thing was that, with a mix of veteran and younger officials, you could get real time feedback on what you were doing, a luxury none of us had in season. It was, in essence, an on field clinic, coming at a very opportune time.
  6. That’s why I referenced cutting back on scholarships … which I thought was an artful way of staying on topic, if I do say so myself. No doubt @gonzoronwould agree. 😉
  7. Why, whatever do you mean? 😂
  8. Michigan may have to cut back on the athletic department spending for a while. https://www.acaseforjustice.com/university-of-michigan-doctor-sex-abuse/ $490 Million Settlement Reached in University of Michigan Dr. Robert Anderson Abuse Case. I don’t care who you are, that’s a lot of dough.
  9. In other words, doing exactly what their shareholders expect them to do.
  10. I understand. I wish David Bell the best. I hope he makes it. But please don’t use Tom Brady as an example. He’s a unicorn.
  11. My point is simply that a wide receiver who runs a 4.65 40 is unlikely to make it in the NFL, if that’s really an accurate gauge of his foot speed. There are exceptions, but they are … exceptional. What did he run at his pro day?
  12. I’m sure the Packers’ training staff isn’t that happy. This guy cannot stay healthy.
  13. And do you have a similar list of potential wide receivers with lousy 40 times, and how many of them fizzled? I bet it’s a lot longer than that one.
  14. Not really apples to apples. Now, if Brady had an arm strength deficiency that limited him on some basic throws, that’s a more apt comparison.
  15. Honestly, who is giving this guy advice? Or, possibly his head is so far up his southern region that he’s not listening. He just can’t shut his mouth. I guess he doesn’t realize that every time he opens his mouth $$ fly out?
  16. Good for you. Coach Richards is a great person and a heckuva coach. He completely turned the Morton program around, and I mean off the field as well, to the point where it became a destination when open enrollment was implemented. He would be an asset to any program.
  17. If that is the game where Portage scored the TD in overtime with a pass and great catch right at the end line, I was there.
  18. Do you know what year he played at Portage? And what position he played?
  19. Agreed. Don’t know how Pitt would be better, since they graduated the best QB they’ve had since Dan Marino. But Texas is the significant one. With the resources available to that program, including their in-state recruiting base, if they get this thing headed in the right direction in 3 years they could be the new Alabama … especially if they land prize recruit Arch Manning.
  20. ESPN’s initial Football Power Index came out for the 2022 college season: Alabama Ohio State Georgia Clemson Notre Dame Texas Michigan Oklahoma Pitt Auburn Unsurprisingly, it’s pretty much “round up the usual suspects.” Irish currently scheduled to play 2 of the 4 teams ranked above them: Ohio State at the Shoe and Clemson at home.
  21. Accuracy is one thing. Completeness is another. I strive to be both. You’re just miffed that Michigan didn’t do it first. Oh wait, isn’t Appalachian State an HBCU …?
