According to the Times today, the Hammond School Board last night approved for fall contact sports to resume. The article states that Whiting is now the only region team to not have football in the fall, as Calumet was approved on Monday to resume football.

In the old days not all the Big Ten teams played each other and still had a conference champion, why would the HNAC not do the same?

Yes it does, doctors and scientists are human. They have the tendency to lie, make mistakes, provide false data, or just go with the current flow. I know it is serious, but to make a blank statement post like yours is not always true.

I do have compassion for those that can not play, but I am not going to make my guys suffer as well. I can only play them teams that are assigned to me to play.

It has to be a school by school decision on what is acceptable to continue the season. In some areas of the state, the threat is not high compared to other parts. Starke County should not tell another county what to do and vice verse.

For me it is not cynical, my brother in law is a pitching coach at Laney College in California and my sister works at the University of Wisconsin at Madison in the athletic Department. Both of them keep me updated on what is going on with there sports and the university.

Most of the non Power 5 conferences are shutting down not because of health concerns, people need to quit lying to themselves. They are shutting down because it would cost them more to run the season than they would make, better to have no profit than be in the red. They are using the health reason to make them look good.

Hopefully the IHSAA and individual schools will be smart and stop all outside athletic activities, such as baseball, basketball, and softball since they are not in season, and just make the student athletes concentrate on Fall Sports. From what I have read and heard from other coaches, most of these student athletes have been doing travel sports where they are being exposed to a vast majority of the population. This increases the risk of catching Covid-19.

Lake County, I believe has the 2nd highest rate of COVID 19, so not surprise they halted athletic activities. But theses past 3 weeks and this week coming are not mandatory, they are just extra time to get ready. Official season starts next week with 3 days of acclimation before full pad practices.

I believe the scrimmages have been moved to Saturday, because of the back to play phases.
