Just busting your balls as usual.  Kelly and Harbaugh are 1-1 head to head.  I respect Kelly’s coaching ability and think it is honestly splitting hairs.

Michigan is not quite ND academically but is also not chopped liver so spare me the “smart kids” line.

I've always had a ton of respect for Michigan and their value of the student athlete. Wherever Harbaugh ranks, it's pretty comical that that someone can claim that he's not one of the ten best college coaches in America.

All I am saying with this topic, is simple....

People need to have an EQUAL opportunity to advance beyond that of the playing field once they become or aspire to higher more impactful jobs within the system that exists.

I cannot see any argument that can support the system that exists as it does now.

The "network" of NOT hiring those that "resemble" the likes that are like the ownership in place is plainly obvious.  Even Stevie Wonder could see that.....

There is always an excuse for NOT hiring those that fall OUTSIDE of the traditional method of elevation...ie.  Offensive/Defensive Coordinators of color...  But then they are skipped over when an HC is hired who has NO history of either  (ex. Joe Judge).

The NFL in all its' recent iterations, has gone from "the flag" and a def-facto Americanism by black-balling Colin Kaepernick, to embracing an anti-racist attitude (ie. painting slogans on the field/having slogan on the helmets) only to be called out in their TRUE hiring practices and inability to foment a an "American hope" of promoting individuals by the content of their character rather than their color of their skin.    That is NOT fair, nor will it be ever accepted in these days!

What would be the argument if the NHL hired a % of minorities that FAR exceed the number of minorities within their league...say 75% of Head Coaches?  I dare say, that there would be an outcry that would wonder, Why?

What is the difference in the NFL.....Tradition?

Or just plain and simple, Comfortability with things as they are?  Those not like us, are not within the purview of being seen as having the ability to be on the level to lead a franchise to winning.  And should some also reach those abilities, they are dispensable for numerous reasons.

Tony Dungy(fired and replaced by Gruden), Lovie Smith (Bears  2012 10-6... now a retread and a Rooney Rule excuse), Romeo Crenel (always a RETREAD, Rooney Rule excuse), David Culley (Hired to be fired), Art Shell, Jim Caldwell (Rooney Rule excuse), Tom Flores, Ray Rhodes (one and done), Brian Flores..... Of course more than this small listing.

Numerous Coordinators that NEVER have been given an opportunity..... Many more than the Minority coaches that were hired (or Rooney Rule check-boxed) .

Good Lord. As Temp would say, "lots to unpack here."

People do reserve the right to equal opportunity, that's what the Rooney Rule is for. But owners reserve the right to hire who they think gives their team the best opportunity to win games.

You're living the seventies and watching too much ABC, NBC, CBS, & CNN. NFL owners care more about wins than they do hiring someone who looks like them.

Last I checked, toting a football and catching a pass doesn't qualify you as a head coaching position. Stop citing percentages as a reason to hire someone based on their skin color.

Comparing the NHL is a poor example. Black people, by and large, could care less about hockey. With regard to football, 70% of high school football players are white compared to 20% black. At the college level, 37% are white compared to 50% black. Let's not pretend that being a player at the NFL level somehow qualifies you to be a head coach. Mike Leach and Lou Holtz are good case in points. If you add all three levels together, the number of white people engaged in the sport is much larger than that of black people.

Blackball Colin Kaepernick? That was well deserved. He hates America, so why should an American organization pay him millions of dollars to throw a football. This guy sat and pouted on the bench when the anthem was playing because he was upset that he wasn't starting that game. When asked about, he came up with this story about how he sat for injustice in America. What was he going to say?......."I pouted like a baby because I lost the starting position.?" He cried like a baby and somehow earned himself the poster boy of injustice in America. Sick.

  3. I will say this about the Boilers. And I don't hate on Purdue one iota, I respect them as a great university that represents Western Indiana. But their fans are a bitter bunch. It's that inferiority complex. No championships in basketball compared to IU's five, and nothing in football compared to ND's eleven. That pretty much sums it up.

Just curious about what happened the last time Kelly/Harbaugh squared off?

Notre Dame got waxed. So were basing this poll on one game? Since when do we do that?

No, I’m saying my original statement of 75% was pretty accurate.

People of color and black are two different things.

In the United States, people of color include African Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans, Pacific Islander Americans, multiracial Americans, and some Latino Americans, though members of these communities may prefer to view themselves through their cultural identities rather than color-related terminology.

    I maintain, 58% black.

  5. A copy and paste from last July. Michigan came in at #12, but 2021 changes the score a little. Probably enough to make them a Top 10 program.

Points given for qualification of College Football Playoff and where teams stood in the final AP Poll.  Any surprises or head scratchers? I was surprised Michigan came in at #12.............two Top 10 finishes in the last 5 years.

    1.     Clemson     125

    2.     Alabama     113

    3.     Ohio State     100

    4.     Oklahoma     94

    5.     Georgia     68

    6.     Notre Dame     55

    7.     Penn State    47

    8.     Washington     43

    9.     LSU     42

            Wisconsin     42

Next up: Florida, Michigan & Auburn

Best of the rest: Texas A&M

    Consideration: Oregon & Baylor

For every downtrodden NLC team there is (Wawasee, Goshen, Plymouth)... the SAC has just as well (South Side, Wayne, Concorida, North Side.

Not sure I'd label Concordia as downtrodden since they recently won a state championship and almost beat one of Indy's best in 2020. Wayne has been up and down for four decades. Look for them to uptrend with Haydock at the helm. North Side wasted Snider in 2020.........Snider wasted Concordia.........Concordia almost beat Chatard. In other words, downtrodden really isn't the word for North Side either. The Legends (almost said Redskins) are up and down like a yoyo, but most years are good enough to give the big dogs all they can handle.

Anyway, good debate on this topic between you and HHF. Both bring good points to the table.

That state university just pulled in its best recruiting class of all-time despite going 2-10 and finished in the top 20 nationally. Painting a picture that Indiana is pulling in 2 and 3 star recruits from Florida isn't accurate at all. Indiana is pulling in multiple 4 stars from Florida who all had legitimate SEC offers. I'd rather Indiana University put the best possible talent on the field regardless of home town. You've been a proponent for years that recruiting rankings and stars are the end be all in college football and now that Indiana is finally starting to recruit at a high level you want them to change? What gives?

It's a shame IU didn't make a push for Jessie Bates. He took the only Power Five offer given to him and ended up at Wake Forest. Now he is ranked as the 5th best defensive back in the NFL and playing for a Super Bowl ring. . I'm with DT on this one. More focus on the State of Indiana.

It would be a good haul from a Merrillville vs Snider game or any of those western DAC teams to travel to FWA and likewise for a return. US 30 is a bad ride, esp in a cheese box.

Don't get me started on US 30. It's bad enough that Fort Wayne is the largest city in America without an urban expressway system. INDOT for whatever reason places no priority on an interstate between Columbus, Fort Wayne and Chicago. That's a head scratcher that I'll never be able to figure out. The state of Indiana has a goal to increase population in Northeast Indiana, so what the hell are they waiting for? Fort Wayne is the fastest growing metro in the great lake region without any help from INDOT. Imagine if INDOT jumped on board.

Luers is nowhere on this list. I guess they aren't a successful program. Or they play in a conference against schools with 3-5 times their enrollment.

You're taking the list too literal. I think he just threw that list out there as a starting point. No one's forgotten about Luers and their 11 state titles.

  10. Another poster brought up the idea that Warsaw would be a good fit to the SAC. Would they be a good fit? Sure. Will it ever happen? No. Too far away. The SAC is just fine the way it is in it's current state. The two out of conference games sealed the deal.

I did find it kind of interesting that so many matchups were set up with Indy, but none from The Region. I really thought that Merrillville and Valpo would be part of the equation.

  11. Michigan and Notre Dame are the two winningest programs in college football history. One is from Indiana and the other is just across the border and separated by only 177 miles. That's pretty cool if you ask me.

Both programs place importance on the student athlete and take it seriously.

Notre Dame has more national championships.

Michigan leads the all-time series and taught Notre Dame the game of football..........true story.

No point it sabotaging the historic rivalry these two great programs have.

And I don't see either program being in a state of disarray. Freeman will figure things out. He has the staff and the players to make, his first campaign a successful one. Harbaugh is Harbaugh. As long as he is there Michigan will flirt with a 10 win season. He ranks somewhere in the Top 10 as far as coaches are concerned.

If you say so.  You know you wanna take the bait.

Never thought I’d see the day when someone used the head coaching job at Notre Dame as a stepping stone to a better job.

    I do, but I won't.

What qualifies a better job? The ability to recruit anyone with a brainstem in order to say "I won a national championship?" Some men might consider the better a job to be one that pays well at a university that has a higher moral compass than most and graduates 95% of it's players.

Wait, the queen isn’t an ND fan?  Then why in the hell am I entertaining his stupidity about my Wolverines?

I’ll amuse you in the meantime.

Rees possibly to the NFL, Elston to Michigan, McNulty to BC, Al Washington is a washed up dude whose best coaching days are behind him (I’d say the OSU line backing core underachieved these last couple of years, no?)…

Oh, yeah.  And your head coach is 0-1, surely headed to 0-2 and has zero experience.

    That’s all…for now.

Lol, not worth a response. Your posts are solid 95% of the time, but this one doesn't qualify.

Couldn’t care less why he is at Michigan.  He is.  And Harbaugh goes all in with 100 percent and is probably the most competitive man in the sport both personally and professionally.

I'll give the Harbaughs that. Too bad Tom Crean wasn't 1/10th of his brother-in-laws. IU basketball fans would have been happier.
