USA Today Network media poll Week 2

Why are media polls always the least accurate? Bias toward their own region? -
Warren Central at Snider (Wayne High School)
BTF replied to BTF's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Didn't we already agree on that? -
That was the case at North Side for years. They just drew a line down the 50 yard line. It was annoying sitting right next to someone cheering for the other team, but it never caused any problems...........that I know of anyway. I'm not sure I've been to 10 games there over the years. They now have visitor seating.

I think you'll see both offenses score some points. Those defenses punished the other's offense on Friday night. If I'm wrong, I'll happily eat crow. Center Grove must have one hell of an offense then. -
Thanks for the info. Great start for the Royals.

I'm rolling with Snider. That's probably not fair to Brownsburg or Cathedral, but I've yet to see them play. I give Snider a slight edge over Warren. They are better than Warren in the back, about the same in the middle, but weaker in the front. I give them the nod since they forced five turnovers to Warren's two. There's something to be said for that considering Warren's offense looked better than Sniders. -

1) Sean Conley. Played at Lakeland last year and rushed for 1500 yards. Played at Snider as a freshmen and is back for his junior season. 2) Arron Vance. He had a few nice passes Friday night. He had a would be touchdown in the first quarter thwarted by a no call holding by a WC defensive back. Also had a beautiful deep ball to Logan at the 5 yard line. It looked complete, but the Warren defender got a hand on it and caused the ball to hit the ground. 3) If you're scared, I won't answer. I'm telling you, this team is better than you give them credit for. Temp agrees. He's got them at #10. That's a hell of a compliment at the 6A level. -

Muffed punts I will give you, that really hurt Snider in gifting Warren good field position. The running into the punter didn't help Snider's cause either. Talk about unforced errors, Snider shot themselves in the foot in that department. Warren spent half the night in Panther territory for that reason alone. Snider only giving up two touchdowns is a testament as to how good their D really is. You can't solely blame Warren for the five turnovers, Snider's D had something to do with it. I think you'd agree if the shoe was on the other foot. -

You're really going to judge this young offense after playing their season opener against the second best defense in the state? -

I'm not at all surprised. Good defenses make big plays, hence the turnovers. Everyone automatically assumes that a turnover is the result of a bad offensive play rather than a good defensive one. There was only one thing that surprised me about this game........well two actually. First, I expected at least one or two touchdowns by special teams or defense. Second, I didn't expect Snider to get shut out. I thought for sure they would see an opportunistic touchdown. -

I thought the Westfield kid was #6? He was pretty solid. Maybe there's a transfer rule? Snider's Sean Conley (presuming RB1) didn't play either. -
Presuming you were at the game or at least watched it on the internet. Is HSE is that good? Could Carroll still be a Top 10 team losing by that score? Could one argue that the game was closer than the score indicated due to the fumbles on the kickoff returns?
-
Probably depends on where your from if I'm being honest. Draw a horizontal line through Anderson. Everyone south of that will claim Avon didn't live up to theirs. Everyone north of that will say Jeff won because they were the better team. I'm from the north, so I'll roll with the latter. HSE, Warren Central, Avon, and Westfield have all gone down to northern teams in a span of less than two years, but the rhetoric on this board hasn't really changed all that much. Kudos to the Bronchos.

I've got to give you credit. You don't mince words and you call it like you see it. But you saw a different team than I did. When Snider loses their third regular season game, I'll take a 12 month break from posting starting on that date. If they "struggle" against East Noble (don't win by 14), I'll break until playoffs. -

If Snider's offense improves enough to put 17 (we all know they will) on the board against HSE or Westfield, they'll have a chance. I called the Snider/Warren game. I knew what was going to happen (neither offense would muster more than 2 touchdowns) when everyone had both teams in their Top 5. My prediction came to fruition and now both teams are going to struggle. Good Lord, I need to take a break from this place. Stop. You weren't there. Your Warren allegiance is showing. -

No idea what the stats were. Warren had the better offense, hence the 15-0 victory. For every play Snider garnered 5 yards, Warren had one that garnered 10.............and they were all few and far between. A huge chunk of Warren's yardage came on that last touchdown. The size Warren had in the trenches seemed to wear Snider down as the game went on. That's 6A football for you. It's why I always emphasize line play as the key ingredient to long 6A playoff runs. Time to move on from this game and throw the "what if's" out the window. -

Both teams were the recipients of plenty of penalty yardage. Snider's punting game struggled. And with two turnovers of their own, WC was blessed with some pretty good field position. Snider only giving up two touchdowns is indicative to how good their defense is. Two teams in your Top 5 put on a defensive clinic and now neither one are state title contenders? I do agree about the 8 weeks to prepare. Both these teams have enough talent on the offensive side of the ball to be pretty good teams by the end of the season. Once they both start dishing out big numbers, everyone will look back on this game and realize just how good these two defenses were. I honestly thought I was watching a D3 college game when I saw these two teams warming up. No gloom and doom here. -

Warren's lack of kicking game makes them a four down team in situations where most teams would kick. Couple that with the trust they had in their defense against the Snider offense, and now you have four opportunities to advance the ball. Warren's first touchdown came after converting on a 4th and 6. Second came on a 3rd and forever in which the Snider D uncharacteristically came up short on two tackles. This game was damn close that featured, arguably, the two best defenses in the state. Yet the team that loses gets crucified and is no longer taken "seriously." Man, I need to find a new hobby after reading this crap. You can play the "what if" game all you want Temp, but so can Snider. If all the bounces fall Warren's way, they might win 22-0. If all the bounces go Snider's way, the Panther's win 17-0. No one wants to talk about the two missed field goals, the dropped pass at the 5 yard line, or the missed holding that kept Snider from jumping out to 7-0 in the first quarter. Just take the 15-0 win and be happy. "If Warren didn't turn the ball over, they would have scored more points." Give me a break. Snider utterly dominated Warren on those plays to force those turnovers. Wanna play this game all week? What if Snider didn't miss those tackles? Good Lord. Congrats to Warren on their 15-0 win. The commentary on this game is turning into a clown show. The difference between these two teams is slim and Snider won't have issues with East Noble (Komets Holtz). -
Give me a defensive line that's better (any year). Louisville and LSU are represented. A junior is the Top 2025 prospect in Indiana. Another kid who is D2. Words like putrid and horrid are a little harsh.
-
Top 10 looks a lot like the one I concocted about an hour ago. How bout them Irish and Rocks? The season is early. Snider, Ben Davis, and Center Grove are in good company. Warren Central defense was as advertised, as was Snider's. Didn't think the disparity between HSE and Carroll would be as large as it was, then again, nor did I with Cathedral and Ben Davis. I still like Brownsburg at #1. I wanna say they were up on Dwenger 45-0 at the half. That's pretty good. The Saints might be down, but only a good team manhandles them like that.
-
I think at some point you have to acknowledge that Snider had a new offensive line squaring off against arguably the best defensive line ever assembled in Indiana. I don't think you can put tonight's performance on the QB or RB's. I think Snider should have went deep more often utilizing some of their more talented players. The option certainly should have been ditched after the first time it went for a five yard loss. They did it four times all with the same result. That's what edge players going to LSU and Louisville will do to a play like that. This team is going to be just fine. Gotta shore up special teams though. Two missed field goals, two rough punts that went nowhere, and a roughing the punter. Also bizarre that they had Logan playing so deep on kickoff return. Never gave him a chance.
-
Not sure it would have mattered. This offense is a work in progress..........and they will get better. Their only chance at scoring tonight was to put the ball in the air deep and hope that some of their athletes would come down with it. It almost happened in the first half with Logan coming down with what appeared to be a catch at the 5 yard line. Many fans thought it was a catch, but the Warren defender did cause the ball to touch the ground.

Congrats to Westfield. Great win!

Snider will be fine. They are going to have an outstanding season. People tend to forget that when two great teams play, there's always going to be a winner and a loser. The Snider D will keep them in games this year while the offense gets better week after week. This season is just getting started.
