Head Coach Confirmed Openings

https://www.therepublic.com/2025/11/03/easts-vogel-announces-retirement-from-coaching/ The Columbus East job opens up after Eddie Vogel’s five years at the helm. He was the third head coach in the 54 year history of the school. With the winning history and tradition Columbus East has (as well as two state titles over the last 12 years), it will be interesting to see if the job opening attracts any names.

Yeah Vogel was 0-19 against teams outside the HHC in his five years at the helm. Crazy to think Columbus East has only had three head football coaches in its entire 54 year existence. Whoever’s next will be #4. As to who’s next, I don’t know. I have zero knowledge on it but I’d think Tyson Moore would be willing to leave Seymour for Columbus East. However, I’d rather we keep our options open and go with the best candidate possible. -

Oh I know it wasn’t unexpected. I’m just curious to see what the HHC has up their sleeve in response. -

I’ve seen those discussions but it sounded more like wishful thinking than anything credible, at least based on what I saw. -

One could argue that a down Reitz team and a 5-5 Mater Dei team are still better than the entirety of the HHC. I guess we’ll find out for sure tomorrow. -

Week 11 Picks Jeffersonville (4-5) at 6A #3/4 Center Grove (8-1): Center Grove wins huge. Running clock in the second half. No explanation needed. We already know. The Trojans lead the all-time series 5-0 and each game has been in the postseason. No game in the series has been close this millennium. The only time the Red Devils kept it close was in 1987 in a 17-14 game. Columbus East (5-4) at 5A #7/8 Whiteland (8-2): Once again, the Olympians don’t have the horses to compete with the Warriors. It’s been a theme this decade. Whiteland wins big. They lead the all-time series 8-4 and have won the last four. Of the postseason meetings, Whiteland leads 4-2. East is 0-2 at Whiteland in the postseason. Evansville North (7-2) at New Albany (0-9): Another running clock game as the Bulldogs end their season winless for the first time ever. The Huskies lead the all-time series 3-1, all postseason games. New Albany is 1-1 at home against Evansville North. 5A #7/9 Floyd Central (8-1) at Castle (6-3): I’m pretty torn on this one. The Highlanders have the better record but the Knights have played the better schedule and have better wins. I’m leaning toward Castle on this one just because I have a hard time trusting HHC teams in the postseason aside from Bob Gaddis-coached Columbus East teams. Castle leads the all-time series 7-1 (all postseason games) and has won the last four. Surprisingly, the last six games were at Floyd Central. This is the first game at Castle since the Highlanders played there in back-to-back years in 1993 and 1994. Floyd Central has never won at Castle. Shelbyville (5-5) at BNL (7-3): The Golden Bears come into this game with more than three wins in a season for the first time since 2017 (Patrick Parks’ last season as head coach before retirement). Can they compete with the Stars? I think BNL might have to work for it but they’ll get it done in the end. This is only the second meeting between the two schools as BNL won at Shelbyville 42-21 in the first round of sectionals in 2022. -

He’s 74 and said he had planned to retire after last year but changed his mind. 0 state titles. His 1989 Tri-West team played for a 2A state title but lost. That was the only time he had gotten a team to state. -

Question about the off-week for 5A and 6A
Frozen Tundra replied to gindie's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
1,000% agree with everything you just said. To me, it looks like the IHSAA went the lazy route after last season. Decatur Central had to move up to 6A and Cathedral had to move down to 5A (thanks to the requirement for remaining up a class being changed from 3 points to 2). They just flip-flopped their sectionals even though Decatur Central aligns more with Avon, Brownsburg, and Ben Davis. Pike could’ve taken Cathedral’s place among Lawrence Central, Lawrence North, and North Central. But the whole reason it looks like they went with 33 in 5A is because they would’ve had to reconstruct multiple sectionals if not. So they added New Palestine to sectional 13 and shifted Whiteland south to sectional 14 to make it a five-team sectional. Otherwise, they would’ve had to drop Fort Wayne North to 4A which would require restructuring multiple 4A and 5A sectionals. Here’s one example of what it should’ve looked like (changes in bold): 5A Sectional 11: Goshen, Concord, Warsaw, South Bend Adams Sectional 12: Lafayette Jeff, McCutcheon, Kokomo, Anderson Sectional 13: Plainfield, Whiteland, Cathedral, New Palestine Sectional 14: Franklin, Columbus East, Seymour, East Central 4A Sectional 19: East Noble, DeKalb, Leo, New Haven, Fort Wayne Dwenger, Fort Wayne Wayne, Fort Wayne South, Fort Wayne North Sectional 20: Huntington North, Culver Academy, Logansport, Marion, Muncie Central, Frankfort, Lebanon, Columbia City The point here is that if the IHSAA is going to have a rolling two-year success factor period then they need to be willing to accept the extra work that will come with it. No lazy sectional restructuring. Put in the work. If not, there are plenty of people on this site that I’m sure would be willing to do it for them. -

@boilerfan87 @LC_Bears_04 This very well could be the final week of games involving HHC teams. Based on the standings and based on your picks for this week, there is the potential for a tie atop the standings. Therefore, I want to add the tiebreaker scenario I established last year (but wasn’t needed). Please add a score prediction to ONLY ONE of your picks. Should this be the last week of HHC pick ‘em, and if there’s a tie for first, I will use score predictions to break the tie. If there is no tie or if we end up having another week of pick ‘em then this will be all for naught. How the tiebreaker will work: 1. Did you predict the correct winner of the game? If this doesn’t break the tie then we move on to #2. (This scenario won’t be in play as a Castle win forces a tie while a Floyd Central win doesn’t.) 2. The person whose score prediction is the closest to the actual total points is the winner. (For example, person A predicted a 35-21 score for a game with a 42-21 result. Person B predicted a 52-7 score for a different game with a 70-14 result. Person A would win because their total score of 56 was 7 points off the actual total of 63. Whereas, person B’s total score of 59 was 25 points off the actual total of 84.) If the tie still isn’t broken, we move on to #3. 3. The person whose score prediction of the winning team is closest is the winner. (For example, two people were off by 4 points in their total score predictions in #2. Person A predicted a 24-21 score for a game with a 28-21 result. Person B predicted a 35-3 score for a different game with a 34-8 result. Person B would win because they were off by 1 point on the winning score while person A was off by 4 points.) -
SAC - Round 2
Frozen Tundra replied to 23andCounting's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I guess I expected more from them. Felt they could ride that momentum and make something of the program. Even if they didn’t perform well in the regular season I thought they could pull a Luers and use their challenging schedule to go on deep runs in the postseason. I was wrong. -

Can someone explain to me why Concordia fell off so hard? They won state nine years ago. Was that just a once-in-a-generation team? -

Frozen Tundra replied to starbacker's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Yeah John Harrell has Castle as a one point favorite. However, if you use the predictor tool (which is based on Sagarin ratings) in one of the pinned threads, it has Floyd Central as a ten point favorite and a nine point favorite when factoring in Castle’s homefield advantage. -

Question about the off-week for 5A and 6A
Frozen Tundra replied to gindie's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Can’t do that in 5A when there are more than 32 teams like there is this year. There should never be more than 32 when 1A through 4A have less than 64 teams each. -
