Week 13 Pick 5A #7/9 Floyd Central (10-1) at 5A #3/4 Bloomington South (10-1): I’m basing this pick on who the better team is at their peak. If the Panthers play disciplined and don’t have silly penalties or turnovers then they’re winning this game easily. However, if they mess around and play stupid then they could be in trouble because this isn’t a Highlanders team to take lightly like previous years. Bloomington South has yet to play a great postseason game this year but they’re due after surviving a couple scares the last two weeks. I say they win this one by 2-3 touchdowns.

If a disciplined Bloomington South team shows up then I think they’re easily regional champs. However, if they regress and make silly mistakes as they have done at times this year then they may be in trouble. This is the best Floyd Central team in years. You can’t goof off with this team and still expect to win like you could in other years.

Got to add Fishers last night to my list of stadiums I’ve experienced a game at. My brother-in-law had been pleading for me to attend a home game for the last few years. Witnessed them lose in the 2023 sectional championship at HSE before witnessing them lose in an upset at Franklin Central during the regular season last year. Closer game than most expected last night and Fishers took the lead with six minutes left to win. Glad they came through. Otherwise, my brother-in-law probably wouldn’t let me come to another game. Would’ve been 0-3.

I highly doubt it

Those kids at East Central, they grow up wanting to play football for the Trojans because all they’ve heard all their lives is how great East Central is. Those players become heroes and legends to the folks that live there and those kids grow up wanting to be just like them. Columbus East used to have that too. It’s a really special thing to see the success of a particular sport year after year inspire and lead to the next generation of great players. It’s a heck of a motivator. East Central is one of the absolute best in this state at doing that.

I can’t speak for Heritage Hills but I know East Central and Brownstown have tremendous youth programs.

Yeah the article quoted our AD who stated there will be a rigorous search for the next coach. Hopefully we can have some big names interested. There’s potential to win at East based on the recent history of success.

Week 12 Picks Evansville North (8-2) at 5A #7/9 Floyd Central (9-1): I came away really impressed with the win over Castle by the Highlanders last week. It wasn’t even close. Looking at what the Huskies have done this season, no result looks as impressive. Can Evansville North stop the run this Friday? Hopefully it doesn’t come back to bite me but I’m saying no and taking Floyd Central here. The all-time series is tied 3-3 and all six games have taken place in the postseason. Evansville North has won the last two games in the series (2022 and 2023) and Floyd Central’s last win was in 2010. BNL (8-3) at Martinsville (5-6): This is a rematch from week 1 when the Stars rolled into Martinsville and shocked everyone by crushing the Artesians through the air in a 33-15 win. BNL returns to the site of the crime 11 weeks later but I feel like Martinsville won’t be caught off guard this time. While I still think the Stars can win, my gut is telling me Martinsville won’t let them. Hopefully I’m wrong. The Artesians lead the all-time series 23-4 and had won ten straight prior to the week 1 loss. Martinsville is 3-0 against BNL in the postseason with the last meeting being in 2022.
