  1. My thoughts and what i have heard.... Big School GS is preseason favorite HH lost some good seniors but have really high hopes for some underclassmen MtV only lost 4 seniors, supposed to be their year... lost HC BV lost arguably the best player in the conference, but I'm sure they still have plenty of talent P and W will both struggle... Small School SR returns a lot and should be an excellent team NP lost two one way players, high expectations but got curbstomped by SR last year. Lots to prove SS and Tec both had good/great seasons last year but both lost a lot! TC and FP should both improve this year PC is PC and will struggle
  2. For some reason yours doesn't show Tecumseh as part of the small conference
  3. Don't believe MD has lost to 5 SIAC teams in one season since 96... I know they lost some good players but i'd put them at 5-4 or 6-3.
  4. The Vikings are now ranked #24 in the nation by Maxpreps. Led by Michigan commit Erin Hoehn, the undefeated Vikings are looking to improve upon their runner up finish last year. Its a nice recognition for these girls and all their hard work. Fellow Hoosiers Indianapolis Roncalli is ranked 3rd. High school softball rankings: Playoff wins, losses shaping MaxPreps Top 25
  5. I could be wrong but I don't believe Coach Messmer ever moved to Mt. Vernon. So if he was making the drive from Dubois County to Mt. Vernon everyday this move will allow him much more family time one would think...
  6. Was at least one or two Howald's on the team last year as well if I remember correctly.
  7. Any word on the Pike Central coach vacancy?
  8. I've heard but can't remember which, either UT-Martin or UT-Chattanooga is a place he is looking at pretty hard.
  9. So its ok to use tax funds to pay to break said contracts?

  11. If i remember correctly GS returns a lot of experience, this should be a great early test. GS is doing a great job at finding games to challenge them. It would be interesting to hear what everyone (PAC teams) have coming back. I know NP and I believe SR have most of their core players back. Believe HH has a good nucleus coming back as well.
  12. I'd add that Montgomery did still play basketball, so he was still a multi sport athlete.
  13. Unless something has changed Tecumseh is back to being a full member of the PAC next year, they will join the small school division. Below is Tecumseh's schedule per John Harrell, SR has not been playing Tecumseh but is next year as a small school conference opponent. JH's site does not show Tecumseh as a conference member yet but I'm certain next year is the year they rejoin. Mt. Vernon (Big Division) schedule is also on JH's site and does not include SR.
  14. NP beat both MV and HH (in OT,) but I'd guess those two were helped by MV beating 6A Jeffersonville and HH beating Charlestown.
  15. Let’s get this back on topic. I’ll be the first to say I was skeptical about MD returning to state without Humphries, Boots and especially Ralph. But i was really impressed last Friday night! The offense really clicked last Friday, no offense to Linton but it was ugly.
  16. I’m including freshmen, I could be wrong but would guess most 2A public schools include freshmen on the roster. Guessing the P/Ps don’t have to dress freshmen or use them for practice. Including freshmen we had 44 players at the start of the year coming off a conference championship season and 9 wins last year. Including freshmen MD probably had 85-90 players it’s not apples to apples. Fun fact we dressed 39 healthy players against MD, they had that many coaches/staff/trainers/doctors on the roster
  17. As are Nolan and Carter Schickel. In a few years Nolan (freshmen at MD) could be a starting WR/DB and his brother Carter (8th grade) could be a starting QB/DB at NP. I didn't want in this conversation just presented numbers about the 2A tourney and the success of the P/P schools, I'm just going to say we do not see things the same way and that is ok. I don't feel sorry for Pike Central when we beat them almost every year and I don't expect MD to feel sorry for us. I don't see the IHSAA changing anything anytime soon so our 40 - 50 football players will have to learn to outwork the 80 - 100 football players at MD. Same for our 6-8 coaches will have to outwork the 20 or so coaches at MD.
  18. I'm not sure but I believe MD usually has above 90% participation rate and have heard it has been close to 100% before.
  19. I would say that roughly 50% of NP kids are very similar to 90-95% of the MD kids. The biggest difference between these kids (the roughly 215 NP kids that have similar home life as the 450 MD kids) is expectations at home. MD families are paying for an education and athletic experience, they are more involved with their kids school and extracurriculars. These numbers seem to translate to roster size as well. NP has 40 kids playing football, MD has 80ish (way more last year.) Routinely? I got tired of looking but going back to the early 2000's NP has won 5 out of the last 27 or so games in boys basketball vs MD. So NP wins 16% of the time in the last 20 years, for reference against Evansville North (1600 students) same time period NP has won 5 out 17 games (about 30%.) I can't tell you about baseball those stats aren't as easy for me to find but we have had some really good baseball teams including back to back state titles so I imagine that is pretty close. As far as siblings at both schools, not always but usually the family will send the better athlete to MD and the rest to NP. Again its about expectations, freshmen receiver at MD is supposed to be the star while junior sister and 8th grade brother at NP are pushed in a different direction. To be clear I didn't say anything good or bad about MD, I presented the facts of this years 2A tournament. Good luck to the Wildcats
  20. A look at the numbers in 2A this year (feel free to correct me if these are inaccurate,) 62 teams and by my quick count 8 P/P schools. 6 of those P/P schools advanced to the sectional title game, 4 of them won a sectional, 3 of them won a regional, and obviously 2 of them are playing for the title. So 13% of the schools won 50% of the sectionals, 75% of the regionals, and 100% of the Semi-states.
  21. Only had 4 seniors on the team this year, bunch of Juniors including the QB.
