For what it’s worth, I too grew up and experienced severe trauma in my childhood and many of those experiences created difficult circumstances for me. But one day I woke up and decided that though my circumstances had played a large role in where I WAS, my CHOICES would ultimately determine where I was GOING. There was no blueprint in my family or my community, I simply got off my ass, stopped making excuses and took control of my destiny. I work in one of the most impoverished and diverse districts in all of Indiana and can tell you WITHOUT A DOUBT that EVERYONE (white, black, Hispanic, etc) is struggling.
