Good grief this game was a mismatch by biblical proportions.  The kicker for Hammond could not even punt it out of his own shadow, I think his longest punt was maybe 20-25 yards?  Coaches agreed at pregame if it got out of control in second quarter they will go to running clock, which they did around 8 min left in 2nd quarter.

A real shame for those Hammond kids.  They were done a large disservice by their athletic department.

Just my opinion.

Morton played hard but they didn't have the numbers nor the talent.

The Pride of  the Irish band paid tribute to Motown music at halftime.  Smokey Robinson, the Temptations and the Supremes would have been proud!

I felt bad for the Morton receiver, five yards behind Irish defenders, and on his way to a long TD, who then had the ball slip from his hands.

Scores from games today

JV

Cathedral 37

Roncalli 7

Freshman

Cathedral 21

Roncalli  7

So the question is, was Cathedral supposed to originally play Roncalli last night, but was changed for some reason which would explain the last-minute scheduling of a team we had no business playing in the first place...but was maybe the only game available when the scheduling was set before season started?

The Hammond Morton contract is a 4 year deal. They called and asked us for a long term deal as they try to build their program and wanted to play the best in the state once a year. Roncalli was never scheduled. We resume our rivalry in the '22-23 season.

And though the product on the field was not strong, CHS got to play about 70 players last night. A bunch of smiles last night from kids starving to get on that field with these 40 seniors dominating playing time.

Which is even worse. Hammond Morton has zero business playing Cathedral once, let alone 4 years. The bright side for Cathedral like you said, is they got players that normally wouldn’t get a ton of playing time some valuable time last night.
