Sounded like they overlooked last year’s Sectional Championship game against Memorial and now intends to focus one game at a time. Some questions on the Offense, due to them losing most of their key players. However, their QB has gotten stronger over the offseason after his nagging shoulder injury. Reitz will be relying on the underclassmen this season according to the quotes. Took some heavy hits on the defensive side, but it appears that will be their stronger area with some good players returning. Coach Brunson is excited for the season and ready to defend their SIAC Title. Quote

Although there were some bright spots, a lot of their struggles were contributed to low experience. Offense may likely be their key strength this season with their QB and RB not graduating, but lots of question marks on the defense losing 7 starters. However, the Wildcats are hoping to improve throughout the season and gain some momentum heading into a loaded Sectional 32. 1 Quote

And thinks they have be a contender in the SIAC and in the sectionals. It appears the Smith player will now play both ways and will be one of the main backs on offense. I interpreted that Jasper may open their passing game a bit more with some receivers, especially their 6’4 TE/WR being the main guy. Looks like the Trenches will be interchangeable and multiple guys rotating. Overall, a lot of the players are interchangeable on defense and offense from what I read. There is ongoing competition for a kicker, punter and the safety positions for Jasper. Extremely great article for Jasper’s 2024 ambitions and where they stand before their first game against Memorial. Quote

AW0352 Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Used to hate the idea but now the idea of growing the SIAC to 12 or 14 teams seems to make sense. What would it take to bring on Boonville, Gibson Southern, Heritage Hills, and Mt Vernon? Make two divisions in football. It would let the schools still have cross division rivals and also add a couple out of conference games. Quote

I'd take the first three in your list with Castle, Memorial, Mater Dei and Jasper in a new conference. I guess we'd need a green team so add Vincennes Lincoln. Quote

TigerFan20 Posted August 7, 2024 Author Posted August 7, 2024 A small recap, the Bears are on a 23 game losing streak and all the players now about it and wants to change the trajectory. Disorganization has played a massive role last season, since there were new players and a new HC. Central is hoping to gain some momentum and get a couple of wins for this season. The team is still trying to find their identity according to their HC. Quote

Harrison had a brief stint, then Central, and now it's Reitz, who probably has the best chance of making it stick given the overall dynamics in the EVSC system. I do find it interesting that a coach made those comments knowing it would go into an article. It will be interesting to see how things play out over the next few years. Quote

Can’t read the article "The complete lawlessness of recruiting players and the de facto 'transfer portal'. If you polled the coaches from the SIAC and PAC, you would have a strong consensus on a very few programs that are involved in this area." "Over the last 8-10 years, in the city, you will have one "all-star" team and everyone else. Those coaches who aren't coaching the loaded team are livid behind closed doors, but have a job to keep. Everyone sees it, everyone knows what is going on, but no one says a word (in public). The coaches on the teams that aren't "the chosen one" lose players and are always up against it. The loaded team usually has a lot of success in the conference. The only thing that changes is which team is declared "the winner" and I don't think that is changing anytime soon." Quote

Even losing their star player in QB Wagner and 85% of their offense with him, the Bulldogs are energized. The offense will now be led by 6’4 Landon Lloyd switching from TE to QB this offseason. And while there may be some challenges on both sides on the ball, the Bulldogs seek improvement and sustainable growth. Edited August 8, 2024 by TigerFan20 Quote
