  1. I've always been told on this forum that High School Football is a dangerous game and children take a risk when choosing to participate. With the consent of a parent/guardian of course. Are all heat/humidity related deaths in high school football an act of negligence by some party?
  2. Trump's Proposals Would Add $5.8 Trillion to the Deficit: https://reason.com/2024/08/28/trumps-proposals-would-add-5-8-trillion-to-the-deficit/ Yep, you can't have meaningful tax cuts without also a meaningful reduction in the size, scope, and power of the federal government. And these power hungry politicians, like Mr. Trump & Ms. Harris, are complicit in just kicking the deficit can down the road, dooming this country for our children and grandchildren.
  3. Thank you for this info, Irishman. But these guidelines appear to be mainly for practices. What about actual games?
  4. https://www.sfgate.com/sports/article/climate-change-high-school-sports-football-19723995.php Interesting law. I wonder how long before it spreads to other states. After all there is that saying "As goes California, so goes the nation."
  5. Not really civil asset forfeiture, but clos enough: https://reason.com/2024/08/27/this-nebraska-man-almost-lost-his-home-and-all-of-its-equity-over-a-small-tax-debt-he-just-won-in-court/ State and local governments will stop at short of nothing to take your money and your property. Thank goodness for the U.S. Constitution, and it's lawful interpretation by the SCOTUS.
  6. You'll put your eye out, kid. 🙂
  7. Tennessee School Expels 10-Year-Old for Making a Finger Gun: https://reason.com/2024/08/27/tennessee-school-expels-10-year-old-for-making-a-finger-gun/ Wow. I remember as a child running around on the school playground with my friends playing "war". We either used finger guns or maybe a stick of some kind. As far as I know none of us ever perpetrated acts of mass violence against the school. But in today's age we would have been thrown out of school and our parents probably referred to CPS. Talk about government indoctrination and the repression of imagination............
  8. You make an interesting point. But IMHO it all comes down to fixed costs. It takes a certain minimum amount of $ to maintain the physical infrastructure, pay salaries, etc. in a school corporation, regardless of how many students are in the building. So, here is a scenario. You have two neighboring rural school corporations. Let's call them CC & CP. Both have buildings with the physical capacity to each serve 1000 students, K-12. But with declining population growth CC's total enrollment falls to say 450, and CP's falls to 500. Doesn't it make financial sense, especially for the taxpayers, to consolidate CC & CP into one school corporation, and close certain buildings so that there is a much more efficient utilization of facilities? Ahh, I remember this article, but had forgotten the study was funded by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.
  9. One of the best defunct high school mascot names: Chili Polar Bears: https://www.mascotdb.com/teams/chili-polar-bears Also this good Indy Star article from 2017 has a list of mascots from now closed/consolidate schools: https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/high-school/2017/05/27/hot-dogs-apple-boys-indiana-has-unique-mascot-history/349655001/
  10. Thanks. I missed that. Maybe the Varsity is 4th and the JV is 6th. 🙂 What a program.
  11. Well, I thought the spelling errors had been worked out from the previous poll, but I guess not: 4 TRI-WEST5 1-0 52 5 GUER4IN CATHOLIC 1-0 51 8 LAWRENCEBU7RGT 0-1 21 6 HERITAGE CHRISTI8AN 1-0 36 I wonder if this was typed on a phone or tablet, without a real keyboard.
  12. Where is this acceptability of taking a knee enumerated in something like the NFHS rulebook? Or is this simply a coaching legend?
  13. It depends on where those adult populations are settling, doesn't it? And it probably won't be in a place like rural Clinton county, for example. Please expound on this statement. I wasn't aware of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce's stance on government school consolidation. Why would they be salivating?
  14. Yes. Especially in a game played by children.
  15. What is best in life? "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women." Right?
  16. That would be an acceptable option as well. Thank you for contributing. No.
  17. Thank for reclarifying my position. Good sportsmanship has not changed.
  18. Back by popular demand, here we go. It's been several years, the last spreadsheet I found for this on my 256mb thumb drive was from 2017. I've always been told that team Defenses are a "couple weeks" ahead of the Offenses in the first game of the regular season. Not so with these blowouts: Week #1 - Games from August 23rd, 2024: Threshold is >35 points win differential. Offender/Score/Victim Carroll (Flora) 55-6 Caston Centerville 54-0 Cambridge City Lincoln Columbia City 42-0 Churubusco Crown Point 44-7 Lowell Culver 42-0 Attica East Noble 42-6 Bremen Elwood 47-6 Southern Wells Evansville Mater Dei 1 45-7 Evansville Central Fairfield 55-17 Goshen Franklin 47-6 New Albany Gary West 38-0 Indianapolis Washington Greenfield-Central 50-8 Beech Grove Griffith 56-0 Highland Heritage Christian 55-12 Covenant Christian Heritage 46-7 Bellmont Indianapolis Ritter 36-0 Indianapolis Tech Jay County 49-0 Blackford Lafayette Central Catholic 55-6 Seeger Lake Central 38-0 Munster Logansport 49-7 Peru Martinsville 50-7 Bedford North Lawrence North Decatur 48-6 South Decatur North Vermillion 41-0 North Central (Farmersburg) *Northeastern 80-0 Union County Prairie Heights 56-14 Whitko Rochester 42-0 Wabash South Vermillion49-0 West Vigo Springs Valley 45-0 Eastern Greene Sullivan 48-6 North Knox Switzerland County 39-0 Crawford County Tell City 42-0 Perry Central Tippecanoe Valley 44-0 Wawasee Tri-West 43-7 Western Vincennes Lincoln 46-8 Evansville Bosse West Noble 55-7 Central Noble Whiting 63-0 North Newton Yorktown 41-2 Anderson Louisville St. Xavier (Ky.) 56-14 Floyd Central Marion Local (Ohio) 45-6 Linton * = Super Duper Run up score of the week.
