  1. Health dept is a government entity as is a public school. (Private schools are out of my realm of knowledge) Ignoring a rule, mandate, order from your local government is a good way to get the whole school in trouble as well as lose a coaching staff immediately. Not saying I agree with everything that our local health dept did/does, but unfortunately the ball is in their hands for the time being.
  2. Contact tracing is king. It all depends on your county health dept and what they deem necessary for a quarantine. Their may be some additional IHSAA guidance come tournament time, but their hands are tied by local health depts. just as much as schools are.
  3. I think that another thing that has to be focused on is a football coach's relationship with the other varsity coach's in the building. There are plenty of basketball, baseball, wrestling, etc. kids in the CIC that are not multi-sport athletes and would contribute greatly to CIC football teams. At schools that size it is essential to try to get kids out for multiple sports and find a way to share the athletes in the summer/off-season.
  4. Anderson U, Wabash, Ball St, Depauw, and I'm sure more have indoor track facilities.
  5. "season" It is run by the coaches association so its not an official IHSAA season. All of the meets are qualifiers for the "state meet" at IU. Typically its the first three weeks of March and then done. I equate it to the scrimmaging we are allowed to do in the summer now for football (non-covid years).
  6. For our indoor track season they split the schools 1-3a and 4-6a for the state finals. I wouldn't hate to see two all-star games set up like that with the current North vs South set-up.
  7. Yup! I have learned to not be 100% sure though until 7:30 Friday! I'm excited for a great game!
  8. Yes, Ball State commit. Third year starting.
  9. Delaware County has not made it easy either. Feel your pain there!
  10. Or its neither and schools roll with the punches and do the best they can!
  11. Not gonna lie, I'm not super familiar with 1A-3A, but I was bored so here are my thoughts after looking a Sagarin from 2019 and schedules for this year. 🤷‍♂️ 6A: Center Grove Carmel Avon North Central* Brownsburg Merrillville Warren Central Ben Davis Westfield Lawrence North 5A: Valpo Zionsville Cathedral New Pal Dwenger Decatur Central Mishawaka Franklin WL Harrison Bloomington South 4A: Evansville Memorial Hobart New Prairie East Central Mt Vernon Marion East Noble Mooresville Delta Northwood 3A West Lafayette Chatard Gibson Southern Mishawaka Marian Heritage Hills Guerin Catholic FW Concordia Jimtown Lawrenceburg Danville 2A: Eastbrook Western Boone Andrean Mater Dei Pioneer Lewis Cass Rensselaer Triton Central Linton Boone Grove 1A: Lutheran South Adams Adams Central Lafayette CC Southwood Parke Heritage Monroe Central North Vermillion West Washington Northfield
  12. Anyone speaking in absolutes on this topic is wrong from the get go. No one knows exactly where we are headed, but I like to look at the optimistic side of things. As some have stated before, these kids for the most part have been around each other and each other's families for at least the last month or so. If there was going to be a big spread, we would have likely seen it by now. Also, until the governor, the IHSAA, a county health department, or a school board tells us we are not going to have a season, I am going to coach like we are and make sure I am following the safety recommendations laid out. The kids deserve both our hardest work as coaches as well as our highest diligence to adhere to safety precautions we have been given to protect them and their season.
  13. When I coached at Muncie Central, it was a fact of life that you would leave the field with at least two or three mounds of goose poop stuck to your shoes.
  14. Pros: -Varsity, JV, 7th and 8th grade, and youth league teams all play on our turf. Many times Sunday is the only day there isn't a game. -PE classes use it during the day -Baseball and Softball are able to hit/field on it -Track teams can run/workout on it saving shins and legs -No mud -Little maintenance -Uniforms last longer -Tends to look nicer -Easier to mark off penalties/ do measurements (lines more accurate) -Concussion type injuries are less common from hitting the turf in a helmet as opposed to a hard ground in November. (this is an observation, not a fact necessarily) Cons: Hella rubber pellets in my truck/house/classroom after practice
  15. Let's be honest here.. There are only 3 maybe 4 people on this entire 6 page thread who actually know the kid and have ever talked to/coached him. Those that have, know that he and his family were going to make a decision that they thought was best for him both athletically and academically. Also, those that know him know that he will work his tail off to earn a spot (in whatever capacity they need him) and get a degree.
  16. You can have your opinions for sure, but I wouldn't put it past him to find himself a playing spot earlier than most think. Very few kids if any have put in the work that he has in and out of season and he is faster, more athletic, and much more football smart than people give him credit for.
  17. You really don't think he will play at all until his final year of eligibility??
  18. The last time they played each other is irrelevant. None of those players will be playing tonight and there are different coaches and schemes involved.
  19. Going with all favorites this week, don't know enough about Peru to go against the prediction.
  20. If Cass plays like they did Friday, the next 6 will be Kings wins!
  21. 6A: Merrillville v. Homestead 5A: Valpo v. Bishop Dwenger 4A: New Prairie v. Delta 3A: Indy Chatard v. Mishawaka Marian 2A: Andrean v. Bishop Luers 1A: Lafayette Central Catholic v. South Adams
  22. I think that tradition and specialization (or prioritization at least) are the two biggest thing. There aren't any schools big enough in that conference to be able to not share athletes and still have success across multiple sports. We have found (and I'm sure many others have as well) that our multi-sport kids are the ones starting in most sports and having the most success because of the different experiences and skills they attain from each sport + the weight room. The tradition aspect though is one that is harder to fix. Takes the right person at the right time that is willing to take lumps at first and stick around to build.
  23. Is it time to look at breaking up the conference to find better size/competitive fits for all of the schools? I know Alex has had some good baseball and basketball seasons and Eastbrook does well in some other sports as well, but is the competitive gap true in other sports as well? For the HHC the big gap is in football but the other sports seem to balance well between the schools for example.
  24. Coaching against them the past two years I would actually argue that their pass defense is better this year than last. They returned more on the outside than inside defensively and seemed pretty sound. Granted that was week 2 and things change, but they are long and disruptive in the secondary especially on clear passing downs.
