Well, the coaches poll wasn't much different so I am not sure the "experts" can take the fall on this one. I have a couple of theories as to why so many teams bombed this season compared to preseason expectations but want to hear others' first. I am not sure if its recency bias but I cannot remember a year where so many top 10-15 teams bombed so badly.

Nah, just been busy. I am actually fine if they make it but will not shed any tears if they don't. Now, if they do and Miami DOESN'T? That's a huge problem.

The real trouble lies in the fact that this weekend's championship games for the most part are pointless. IU and OSU will remain in the top four regardless of the outcome and getting out of the game healthy should be the main priority for both teams. While I know it'd mean a lot for the Hoosiers to win the B10 title, if the national title is the goal, you are one snap away from a travesty. In the SEC, I think the committee has Bama in regardless of this weekend's result as you cannot, with a straight face, put Oklahoma and A&M in, while leaving the SEC championship game runner up, out. Same in the ACC. Duke? Really? I have no clue how that tiebreaker worked out in their favor but what a cluster all of those 6-2 teams are. Lastly, I rarely have sympathy for teams that lose 3 games but are you going to look 9-3 Texas (who has wins over Vandy and A&M) in the eye and tell them that they are not worthy because they challenged themselves in the non-conference traveling to Ohio State, instead of scheduling UTEP? I know the new format makes more games matter and gives teams more margin for error, but this season, maybe the four team format would have been sufficient? Mega conferences have created tremendously imbalanced schedules and sometimes the luck of the draw gives teams an advantage, or vice versa.

SP+ is my favorite metric by which to predict college football contests and it currently has ND at #5 and basically a TD underdog against Indiana/Ohio State on a neutral field. Furthermore it has teams 5-12 separated by a FG, so while yes I believe Notre Dame is one of the 12 best teams, let’s not sit here and pretend that they are 2019 LSU.

Where are you getting this narrative from? Because they are beating up on inferior competition? Really pumped about those wins over Stanford and Boston College? No one wanted to play Oregon last year and look how that worked out… This level of invincibility you’ve placed upon the Irish is head scratching.
