Not quite growing at the rate of the HCC but as flight to the suburbs continues, I could see a potential state champion from this conference in the next few years. Mooresville, Decatur Central and Whiteland would be my first guesses, depending on where Cathedral falls in that particular year.

Just throwing out there for conversation sake that Mooresville’s girls basketball took down two MIC powerhouse over the weekend with 3x their enrollment and the 4A girls southern semi-state is an all Mid-State affair with them and Franklin. Probably irrelevant to the actual conversation here but cool nonetheless.

Well, there are only 50 voters anyway. Rodgers received 39, Brady 10 and Kupp one. I’ll take 32 head coaches who know the game in an instant over 50 “sportswriters” or whatever they are calling themselves these days. Yes, baseball’s writers vote. It’s the most hypocritical joke out there. Guys don’t get “first ballot” hall of fame votes due to hurt feelings and comparisons to previous generations. If a guy is a hall of famer, why should he have to wait an additional 2-3 years to get the required percentage of the vote? And don’t even get me started on the steroid guys…

What about letting all 32 coaches vote?

The “quality” of those voting was exposed earlier this year when Hub Arkush spoke out of his ass. It’s no different than baseball writers’ joke of voting to determine the hall of fame inductees. We can no longer give people the benefit of the doubt as the media is more unreliable than its ever been.

You can drop all of the statistics and figures you want but you don’t have one shred of evidence that those numbers are due to racism in hiring practices. You also conveniently ignored the barrel of the gun being pointed back at you. Since you are in the business of running with a story based on statistics, could one also look at those same statistics and claim that people who aren’t of color are not getting an equal opportunity as players? Or does it only work in one direction? Do you see how ridiculous that sounds? Organizations, especially those with millions of dollars on the line are going to hire whom they want and feel gives them the best chance to succeed. Period. In fact, I’d say the arrogance of many front offices makes them less likely to hire minorities even when the public pressure is turned up to do so. Just stop…please.

Not in 2022. We are creatures of the moment and spout more hyperbole than any other time in my life time. I mean, we have bracketology and bubble watches in December. Give every player the same 17 game resume/application and let the chips fall where they may. Side note, I’m sure Rodgers would much rather be suiting up tomorrow than celebrating this award.

Too many people get captured by the moment. Recency bias would take over the award and the 17 game regular season would be forgotten. The Heisman is also awarded prior to the bowl season. Allows for a level playing field.

I can see that. I’m not sure I’d go 20 deep on Saban being replaced but your point remains. Who do you think are the coordinators/young coaches that will take the next step and challenge those on this list? Despite what he says, I’m not buying Deion as a “lifer” at Jackson State…if FSU underachieves again this fall I think he gets a call. Jim Leonard and Derek Mason also intrigue me.

Question I have posed before to others and am anxious about your take. Why does Kyle Whittingham of Utah seemingly get ignored by these lists? I think he’s amazing and am honestly surprised he hasn’t been lured away from Utah by now. Maybe even David Shaw also…

I’m just glad Dolphins fans could sleep last night knowing that their coach identifies as a “human being first” and that his skin color is irrelevant. He didn’t take the bait. Kudos. Who would have that would EVER be considered a controversial statement.

I could actually make a case for top five on a good day due to the student athlete dynamic you mentioned above. Recruiting at places like Notre Dame and Michigan is often like bringing a knife to a gun fight. I am a big fan of coaches at all levels and in all sports that can do more with less and succeed despite barriers and roadblocks that other schools don’t have to worry about. I’ve said this multiple times but I am unsold on Dabo as a great coach. This year will tell me all. I think he’s an excellent recruiter and had two great coordinators but this next fall will determine where he falls on my list.
