Once again, that’s not how Harbaugh operates. The “ thought the job was his” narrative is 100 percent false. In fact, he is more of an old school guy and was told by Vikings’ ownership that the modern day NFL requires a knowledge of analytics. So, what did he do? Before he got on the plane, had a lengthy sit down with current UM quarterbacks coach Matt Weiss who is known for his knowledge of analytics in preparation for the interview. In other words, the EXACT opposite of what you are implying. As for the optics, his coaching staff, players, and even potential recruits have all applauded his transparency and didn’t fault him at all because many of them too have the NFL as their ultimate goal. Does he have some things to mend? Oh, I’m sure. If the optics were so bad, then why did two of Michigan’s top targets (one who is expected to sign next month) both voice their approval on social media the moment it was announced he was coming back? Folks will surely use this to negatively recruit against Michigan but it’s 2022. That’s been happening for years. Jim is a big boy and can handle it. You continue to trust your sources (ESPN/the national media) and I’ll trust mine who have boots on the ground.
