  1. Somewhat surprised now that Castle could not beat North by a wider margin.
  2. You quoted something to me that I didn't post.
  3. If you're interested in hearing how it was addressed, skip to the last 5 minutes of this podcast. This was recorded on Tuesday.
  4. I was coaching one of younger teams back then and I believe it was the IHSAA, which usually adopts whatever the NFHS does.
  5. Some of us aren't that lucky Coach. I only have enough space for herbs... 😀
  6. It's okay. We owned it that night and took full responsibility.
  7. You referring to the locker room?
  8. On the WREF show, it sounded as if Bosse had trouble snapping the ball (one of the more critical aspects of the game). I'm assuming they will get that fixed so I'll pick them over Central 47-36 in what can only be described as a blind-fold, dart board game. I suspect Jasper has had a rough week of practice after getting shellacked last week. I will give Coach Sutton credit for enforcing discipline. Not many coaches in that situation would remove a star player from the roster as he did just prior to the first game of the year. Give me Jasper 26-13. But Lord, if Jasper loses, I imagine Tony Lewis is going to interviewing realtors on Sunday afternoon. No better way to get the season rolling than taking on a winless program like Central. MD should have some confidence after what was a pretty rough 2023. Still can't figure out that Castle game last week. This week Castle possesses the ball in all 4 quarters and the D brings the still relatively young Wildcats back down to Earth. Knights 28-13. Similar to MD, the SIAC schedule is kind to Lincoln with a Wk. 1 opener vs. Bosse. As expected the Alices got the job done and now take on the Mighty Panthers (#discipline), who will be a little short-handed this week. LOL. You honestly can't make this stuff up. Will that and natural grass be enough to give Lincoln the edge? Maybe, but I'll go with Reitz 27-24. And now my personal G.O.W. Last year the heat really gassed the Huskies' big boys up front. They were on and off the field the entire night. This week, our prayers have been answered and the heat has returned. As an aside, Bundrant is my least favorite SIAC stadium. No real character and they play this horribly corny "Mr. Sudsey" ad during the game AND they pipe the sound of a barking dog through the PA incessantly. As anyone with a decent education knows, huskies rarely bark. Tiger D is undersized but they fly around. Focus will be stopping the run and forcing North to put the ball in the air. Tiger O is pretty dynamic and forces the D to pick its poison. Tigers 34-10. Everybody stay safe out there and mix in a water every now and then.
  9. I guess people who rip on California don't eat vegetables...
  10. That's been around for many years. We've had it since 2014 or so. Come now...
  11. Jealousy that we have a fan base like we do. Alcohol is prohibited at EVSC property (as with any other school), so anyone allegedly consuming an adult beverage would have been in violation. I seldom tailgate anymore, but I can tell you the parking lot at Enlow is always cleaner after our games end and the tailgaters leave than it is when we arrive.
  12. I wouldn't be all that intimidated by a 10 point win over Owensboro. If I had known that I would've picked HH in the 812 Pigskin Pick-em' this week.
  13. Us old-timers still call our youngling teams 7th grade Cub and 8th grade Cub.
  14. Start time for our Cub games tomorrow got moved back 1 hour.
  15. My sources tell me it was less VL complaining than the desire of the EVSC to eliminate fans tailgating. Otherwise, why not just adjust the start times for the VL and Jasper games? I know several schools were firmly against moving all games to 6:30.
  16. Yes, it's a completely unrealistic proposition for football. I cannot imagine anything worse than watch two schools play a semi-state in front of 3,000 fans in a stadium that can hold 60,000. Agreed. The IHSAA gets all the gate after the first 200 tickets are sold from Regional and Semi-State. They aren't going to change that any time soon.
  17. I think it would be a big challenge to get boosters to work gates, concessions, etc. in late November if their school wasn't participating. Those universities also have games in November. Concession revenue for Purdue or IU from a couple thousand people is not going to move the needle enough to make the venture worthwhile. The IHSAA adding the additional costs to the ticket price would drive down attendance even more than having two schools drive to a neutral site. The reason Lucas Oil works is because the Colts cover the costs of the facility.
  18. Who will provide workers at the site? The universities?
  19. No love lost for Central in my camp for several reasons - some old, some new... I suspect there is less willingness to adjust start times when dealing with 7th & 8th graders.
  20. Well, I guess I was wrong about the impact of the heat this week. Our JV played at Jasper last night and coach said he thinks the game at North will be played at the regular time Friday...
  21. I can only speak for myself, but as the defending 3A representative from the South, I would give Heritage Hills the nod as the team to beat. As Titan32 says, they have a lot returning. They beat Southridge (always a tough opponent) in a similar fashion as we beat Jasper. Because none of the SIAC schools play any non-conference opponents, all we can do is wait until October & November to see how things shake out. A lot can happen over the next 8 weeks...
  22. Like a crack in the sidewalk... I'll predict it won't be more than 1 in the regular season
  23. I agree. Good for them to start the year off on the right foot.
