  1. You are absolutely correct. It was a starting point. Blue rings identify the top of the house, no doubt, but it’s only part of the story. The list from JH’s site is pure wins versus losses. It is important to put value to those programs who win a lot of games from year to year. Also, another stat that should compliment the full data set is what was the enrollment trend for those “successful” schools during the same time period. Maybe the most successful programs are the ones who were challenged with declining enrollment while still winning games and championships?
  2. Here’s a little food for thought… Pointing out Tipton and Eastbrook, and Linton on this list from JH’s website.
  3. I do believe they belong in this conversation. They were just a couple of years later to the party.
  4. Great topic. A good place to start looking at data is IHSAA enrollment numbers and then John Harrell’s website on the “combined yearly records” page. Going back as far as the data goes, which is 1984 here are the results. The smallest schools on the list are Linton, Eastbrook, and Tipton. This data speaks volumes for those programs. To be in the top 20 in winning percentage of all schools in Indiana in the last 38 seasons, is quite a statement. I imagine a lot of people will argue for Mater Dei, Andrean, and Chatard, but there is no way a private parochial belongs in this conversation, ever.
  5. 1988 - Tipton at Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger, 3A Semi-State. The old Zollner Field was an absolute mud pit. It had rained a lot leading up to the game. Hard fought battle for both teams. Tipton was down 15-16 in the 4th quarter. On 4th down of their last possession, the Blue Devils kicked a 47 yard field goal to win the game 18-16 and go to their first state championship game. 1994 - Griffith at Tipton, 3A Semi-State. There was nearly 3000 people at the game. The city brought all the bleachers from all across the town to accommodate as many people as they could. They were lined up 2 to 3 people deep all the way around the track against the fence. Tipton was up 25-18 in the 4th quarter. Griffith managed to score a touchdown with no time remaining on the clock. The score was 25-24, Tipton. Griffith decided to go for the two point conversion. Tipton tackled the ball carrier on the 1 yard line to win their second semi-state an go to their second state championship. All of the Blue Devil fans rushed the field to celebrate with the team.
  6. Yes, the last two weeks have been full of good football. Hats off to all the winners and losers. Very well played and coached games.
  7. Their pace is like Paul Westhead’s system at LMU and the other places he coached basketball. It goes something like this, they are going to run their offense as fast as they can run it and during the course of the game they’re going to run about 30 more plays than you. They think by running fast and running more plays they are going to out score you based on percentages. They have a great system, maybe one of the most unique approaches in the state. Yes it is difficult to play it, but you can match it with physical play and passing deep down the sidelines and influencing their defensive alignment to your advantage.
  8. Right, and there is no doubt Luers and Eastbrook have two very different approaches. I would like hear from someone who has seen the QB from Eastside play this year. Based on his stats he sounds like “the real deal.”
  9. Eastside’s QB has 1500 passing and 20 TD to go along with his 1800 rushing and 27 TDs to go with it. I am going to say Eastside will be able to pass the ball. Eastbrook won’t take both threats away.
  10. Eastside over Eastbrook. The panthers wont be able to stop the pass. Eastside has played a tougher schedule too.
  11. (Devilpride95 clears his throat)…I will be an football official at some point, just not done coaching yet…
